2011 Ford Ranger

The online video showing the installation of the Prodigy P2 trailer brake control into a 2011 Ford Ranger was excellent! It made the installation into my Ranger simple and straight forth. I have yet to hook up to my travel Trailer and adjust it for brake setting, but all readout displays thus far are as stated in the instructions. Having previously installed the trailer connector, I did not purchase the installation kit and in retrospect for cost effective and simplicity would recommend anyone to purchase the kit along with the controller. I believe I am going to be very pleased with this product. Thank you 188777

2013 GMC Sierra

I installed the brake controller a week or two ago in my 2013 GMC Sierra 1500. I had one just like it in an older Duramax that the previous owner installed--I went with the same product. I had the chance to use it this afternoon to pull a few tons of #57 stone. Trailer plus load I figure about 6000 pounds behind the truck. Pictures are attached. This is the first 1/2 ton truck I've owned in nearly 10 years and worries how it would do with heavier loads. This controller made a world of difference and really maximized the use of my truck. Great product and I highly recommend it to anyone needing a good controller. 137307

2006 Jeep

I installed this in a 2006 WK Jeep in about two hours. I used the generic pigtail because I didn't have/couldn't find a vehicle specific connector. There are more specific instructions for wiring it online, be a little creative with your search. I was able to find the same sheet as the generic one packaged with the controller, just specific to a 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The install took me about two hours, working by myself, and was relatively straightforward. Much of the time was taken up by making the install of wire runs neat and preserving the "factory look," if you are not particular about appearance, the install could go much more quickly. This was my first time installing a brake controller. I haven't had a chance to hook it up to a trailer yet, but it seems to be functioning properly. I am a little concerned that the ground wire on the supplied pigtail is a small gauge, 14, so if I encounter any issues I will switch this out with a larger gauge wire. I also noted that the factory wiring harness supplied by the Jeep dealer for the hitch has a 14 gauge brake wire. While this should be sufficient for up to two axles, if I notice any issues, I will replace this wire also with a heavier gauge. The generic pigtail contained a 12 gauge wire for the brake line. All around, so far very pleased with this purchase. 72226

Chevy Avalanche

Product came with great online video on how to install on my Chevy Avalanche. 4 wires under dash and 1 under hood. All connectors required came with the product. It has great electronics that tell you if the trailer is hooked up and how much braking you are using. Easily to adjust. Can take it out by removing one plug when not pulling trailer. Only thing missing was instructions stating that the unit turns off after 15 mins after ignition is turned off. I was worried about battery drain. Not to worry. Called tech support and they answered this question. Pulling a single axle trailer with varying load weights from 1000-2000 lbs. good instructions on how to adjust after install. Wish everyone selling on the web was this thorough. These guys have done their work. 147507

Great product and would recommend it.

2012 Chevy Silverado

The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller is a great product. This is my second one to own. Shipping was prompt and installation was easy. One thing I really like about is the installation videos. It helps me decide if I can do it myself or not. However I did find one small error video demonstrating the installation of the Prodigy brake controller in the 2012 Silverado pickup. When hooking up the power to the controller under the hood the video states that you need a 10mm 1.25 pitch nut to go on the stud. It is easy to find. I found one at Home Depot. The only problem is it actually takes an 8mm 1.25 pitch nut. This caused only a slight delay in the installation and another trip to get the correct nut. Overall I’m very satisfied product, the service, and the price. …and I really do like the video instructions. 44810

2013 Chrysler Town & Country

2013 Chrysler Town and country White wire with green stripe worked for cold side of brake switch. When you cut a hole in the boot, to pass the wire from the engine compartment through the fire wall, make it at the 2 oclock position when looking from the front of the engine. this makes it easier to pass the wires. Check the free led circuit tester prior to use. Some don't work. Use a piece of aluminum angle stock to mount the circuit breakers. Mount the aluminum to a 10MM fender bolt next to the fuse box. This way you don't need to drill holes. Was a good kit with good components. 83238

Has been working fine without issues. Adjust it once and it stays put.

2005 Toyota Tacoma

This was exactly what I needed for my 2005 Tacoma for towing. I pulled a 29' camper trailer 300 mi. with it shortly after installing. With the proper hitch setup and this brake controller, it turned what could have been a white knuckle nightmare into a pleasureable trip. I purchased this with the proper wiring plug-in adapter which made it extremely easy to install in less than 20 min. The only thing I don't like about it is how intensely bright the blue LED lights are at night when I'm not towing anything. Of course its fairly easy to unplug and remove when not in use though, but that does get old. I wish it just had an on/off switch or something. I was initially concerned that the lights would put a drain on my battery as they do stay illuminated after turning off the truck, but I found it's only for a few minutes then they turn off. Overall, I would recommend this controller, and I would buy one again based off the last 9 months of use. 64563

My 2005 tacoma has the factory installed 7 pin plug, did yours? Im about to pull a 26 trailer at about 4500 lbs. Has the Tacoma performed well since your original post?

2011 Chevy Silverado

The Prodigy P2 is as easy to install in my 2011 Chevy Silverado as any brake controller I have used. This is a direct wire install with now extra wiring harness used. It took me about an hour in 90 degree heat under the maple tree. I had to buy a fuse and nuts for two studs under the hood of the Chevy. Total cost was $6.49 for the extra parts needed. 89676

I just completed a 4400 mile trip to the western states of the US. I was towing a 6 by 12 cargo trailer with electric brakes. My Prodigy Brake Controller worked flawlessly the entire trip. I recommend this product.

2010 Toyota Tacoma

This is my first brake controller so that fact may disqualify me as a reviewer; but then maybe it makes me a better one! I usually do a lot of research before buying something I need that I know little or nothing about, but that was a quick task in this case. EVERY forum, expert review, and installer recommendation had the same two pieces of advice: Buy proportional versus time delay, and buy Tekonsha. Beyond that, it was either buy the Prodigy P2 if you don't need an LCD display or the P3 if you do. I didn't need the LCD display because I'll only be hauling one trailer with the same drag car on it, so now that I have the controller installed and adjusted I don't expect to have to mess with it any more. Installation was easy peasy with the adapter cable for my '10 Tacoma, mounted under the lower dash just beneath the steering column. I did add two slightly beefier sheet metal screws to the dash mount as the two screws provided seemed a little weak. Solid product, works great, took all of 15 minutes to adjust. 44806

Ford F-150

I purchased the P2 along with cable for my F150. Installation was very easy. The instructions were clear with excellent drawings. I then connected my trailer to test the controller. All the functions work correctly. My next step is to drive the trailer as the instructions indicate to fine tune the boost level. Once I have done this, I will update my review. The instruction card is made of light card board and is designed to be carried in your truck for quick reference. Instructions for using the controller are clear, concise and easy to follow. I contacted customer service prior to placing my order as I was unsure if I needed the P2 or the P3. The sales rep was very knowledgeable and quickly determined after a few questions that I needed the P2. There are other, less expensive controllers to choose from, but if you read the reviews, they are not as well made as the Tekonsha is. I highly recommend spending a bit more for a product that will last and provide excellent service. 166000

2012 Nissan Titan

Ordered the controller with a wiring harness for a 2012 Nissan Titan with the factory tow package. Quite simply Plug-n-Play. Located the factory harness connector inside the dash to the left of the steering wheel behind the lower trim panel (two phillips screws and pull straight out), Plug in the harness, mount the controller, plug it in and ready to go! If you know where you want to mount it, the install is 15 minutes max! is great, shipping was quick, packaging was great and the order was correct. The quality of the products was excellent. 48102

2004 Chevy Tahoe LT

Application: 2004 Chevy Tahoe LT / Pulling RV Camper My first ever review of anything purchased online and I figured this one really had merit to deserve the extra attention in giving credit where it's due.. Easy and efficient online ordering processes, excellent customer service and the follow-up email after the sale and delivery of the product was the icing on the cake! You guys' have really got it together over there and I'll be ordering from you again very soon! Thoroughly impressed with the quality and extra-nice features of the unit! Perfect fit installed just as quick and easy as the product's description and related installation videos have shown. Works much more smoothly and predictably than the old Kelsey-Hayes slam-bam brake modules I've used in the past. Especially love the progressive braking feature too! 2005 Toyota Sequoia

I chose this controller after doing days of research online and in talks with friends who have trailering experience. The balance between cost and performance seems to be reached perfectly in the Prodigy 2. It was easy to install thanks to the video provides on its website. I ordered it about 7PM and immediately got an email confirmation. About 1/2 hour later I got a second email telling me the item had shipped and that I had been upgraded to Express Shipping at no extra charge. Two days later I came home from work to find that the controller had been delivered and I had it installed before my wife came home from work. It took me no more than thirty minutes with the hardest part being locating the almost-hidden connector under the dash of my 2005 Toyota Sequoia. Worked perfectly the first time, and the instructions were very clear on how to set it up to work best with my trailer. Highly recommended. 30700

2007 Toyota Land Cruiser

Arrived on time and works exactly as described. I installed this on a 2007 Landcruiser. The most difficult part was finding instructions on where to find the plug. After much research, I came across Ih8mud and got the instruction on where and how to connect. Rather than mounting it to the dash, I removed the ash tray and put it in that spot. It fits perfectly. 177372

2010 Toyota Tundra

This was a replacement for a similar product from a manufacturer etrailer no longer carries. The previous product randomly turned on the brake lights on my 2010 Tundra while it was parked at night; they might stay on for some minutes then turn off. Tapping the controller unit turned them off at first, but then nothing worked except unplugging the unit. Then it totally crapped out. Contrast that with the Tekonsha P2 unit. No defective operation, easy installation, great display with clear diagnostic significance. I mounted the unit with Velcro strips( buy them at the fabric shop) super glued to the unit and the vinyl of the Tundra, on the left side by the left knee. Did I say really quick delivery and great communication from etrailer? You can't go wrong, and the online communication and discussion is worth a lot. The unit also makes the trailer brakes work, like it should. Recommended 26429

2008 Dodge Sprinter 3500

Installed it in a 2008 Dodge Sprinter 3500 RV that already had a factory hitch and 7 pin wiring and connector installed, but only completely wired for 4 pin operation. It installed exactly the same as the etrailer installation video for a 2013 Mercedes Sprinter by connecting it up to the pre-wired OEM trailer brake connector found under the drivers seat The only change I made was to cut the OEM connector off and butt splice the wires because some were different gage wires and I didn't trust a 12ga wire connecting to a 14 or 16ga wire using 12ga splice lock connectors. It was so nice it had the OEM pre-wiring for trailer brakes! Haven't connected it to a trailer yet, but it tested out ok using a Tekonsha trailer emulator. Just note that you wont get full trailer emulation unless you have 12V hooked up to your 7 pin connector on your tow vehicle. 158700

2012 Dodge Ram

Great Brake Controller This was my first time using a brake controller and installing one as well. The directions were easy to follow for both the install and setup. 2012 Ram 30416

where did that mounting bracket in this picture come from. Was it already on your 2012 Ram?

comment by: William E - 08/19/2013

The bracket was already on the Vehicle, its in between the light switch and the parking brake release lever where OEM controller would be if equipped , it requires a little modification to fit.

2010 Chevy Silverado

I ordered the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller along with a Draw-Tite Ball Mount, 2 5/16" Chrome Ball and Pin lock on a Sunday and it was delivered the following Friday. The Tekonsha Brake Controller came with a DVD and with aid of Video for installation instructions for 2011 Chevrolet Silverado (mine being 2010) on ETrailer site, I was able to have installation within 2 hours. Easy to follow instructions on where to find wiring on my vehicle under dash and hood assisted installation immensely. After installation and testing the Brake Controller with trailer attached everything worked as required. I was quite pleased with ease of installation for this not so handy novice. I have skimmed through Etrailer's site for other accessories for truck and trailer and other products have interested me. Thanks ETrailer for your products!! 34780

Dodge Dakota

I rated it as high-good because I haven't installed it yet, but I have convidence it will work well and should rate an "excellent". The product and installation parts/instructions look to be first class. It will be installed on a Dodge Dakota used to tow a Casita RV trailer. I bought this on advice of several other RV owners that all agreed that it is the best you can get. It will be replacing a time delay type controller that frankly I just cannot stand. The fact that it has an inertia sensor that is not a pendulum is the #1 reason I chose the Prodigy over others. According to the instructions, it does not have to be mounted level and internally self adjusts for tilt while going up and down hills. I find that to be fantastic and can hardly wait to try it out later this summer on a trip across the Rocky Mountains. 13904

And reallyy good quality product, works well, and the boost feature is a great idea and helps provide smooth controlled stopping of even the heaviest loads. The wiring harness provide by eTrailer worked perfectly and the installation video was really most helpful. They even include the end to end connectors. My only complaint was more to Chevrolet not including the ability nuts to fasten the connections in the engine fuse box terminals. I spent nearly 4 hours running to different auto supply stores and hardware stores trying to find the correct size. I even called my local dealership and they couldn't help me. Excellent product! 56254

Shawn,I agree completely, only problem I have with your post is you didnt list the sizes either so Im still on the hunt!

You will need 1 M8-1.25 nut, see part 185917. You will also need an M6-1.0 nut, see part 185916. We have videos about these installs so you can see where the connections are and where to find the wires.

1999 Jeep Wrangler

Great product and good price. I found a slightly cheaper price but the site didn't have the great installation videos so I figured if Etrailer went to all the work to share the videos then they are the kind of company that cares about how well the products work and will have great customer support too. I didn't have the non contact tester like in the video and to work under a dash you have to stand on you head so I googled “car alarm install diagram” and found my car and checked on the list for “brake” and it showed which wire by color code was the right one to tap into. I then just used my cheap 12 volt tester to verify and it worked great. IFY 1999 Jeep Wrangler the brake wire is white with brown stripe. Thought this might help someone else. 19374

Two Phillips head screws to remove lower dash panel, Infiniti had the wires labeled with a huge sticker that said "ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROLLER" I cut the tape to bring down the wires and this thing plugged in perfectly!!! Now we are 1800 miles into our trip with this brake controller and it has been OUTSTANDING!!!! AND I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW EASY THE AFTERNARKET WIRING HARNESS WAS TO INSTALL!!! Soooooo Impressed!!!! I can give this prodigy controller AND THE WIRING HARNESS a review of 6 out of 5 stars!! The dealership wanted $320 to install it for me. 2014 Chevy Silverado

I installed this Tekonsha brake controller on my 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 in about an hour. The actual install of the controller to the underside of the dash took only about 15 minutes but mating the included harness with the one that came with my truck added a little more time. Matching the cables was pretty easy as the controller came with excellent instructions (but If I had to do it over, I would probably buy the optional vehicle-specific harness just to save a little time and to insure a good connection.) I haven't towed with the controller yet so will need to add some comments about actual operation in the near future. By the way, the install video by is excellent. 112437

Jeep Wrangler

Tiny profile, 2 mounting options allow choosing type of mount given locations available. Ability to mount in a non-horizontal orientation also greatly helps this. For my open top Wrangler I like the 'holster' mount so that I can easily and quickly remove it to lock it away when I'm not around. All wiring was straight forward except for the attach to the brakeline, but given this varies by vehicle and year that's not the products fault. Some internet searching for my vehicle make and model wiring schematics allowed me to figure that out without too much issue. A electrical 'tester' also helps with this. Lot of functionality in a small package, I look forward to using it! 47202

2000 Toyota Tundra

Prodigy P2 Controller/2000 Toyota Tundra I wanted a good controller for my 2000 Tundra to control new electric brakes on my 32 ft sailplane trailer & on a 29 travel trailer. I did a lot of i-net research & decided on the Prodigy P2 from E-Trailer. I wanted a progressive controller. The P2 has not been installed yet but it seems well constructed & has a lot of good features. It also comes with a pigtail for easier installation & removal. The E-Trailer site has a wealth of "how to" information, good prices, & I could get everything at one place. I am now confident that I can do a nice installation & that it will perform well. 4248

2004 Nissan Titan

I was utilizing this same unit on my 2004 Nissan Titan pulling our 25' travel trailer on the freeway when a pickup truck lost control and ended up perpendicular to us in our lane. We did hit her but being able to rifle the brakes and have the trailer do the same we all walked away and the trailer never veered from it's direction. I don't know how much this contributed to our positive outcome (except for the Titan) but I am very thankful that this brake controller works under the most dire of circumstances. I was able to pull it out of my truck before they towed it away for good and will go in my new one. 47871

I bought this controller to replace my old one, which was a Prodigy also. It was the best controller I've ever owned or used. It had been on my F-250 Power Stroke for many years (10 or more). My odometer is showing 226,000 + miles and a large portion of those have included a trailer of some type. I pull a lot of different trailers and pull very often. There has been times when someone would be riding with me and they would comment that they didn't think my brakes were working because they were so smooth. When I have 10K-12K pounds on a trailer I don't want to trust any other controller!! 66016

2015 GMC Sierra

As with the review for the plug in wiring adapter on my 2015 GMC Sierra the etrailer video was extremely helpful. I chose to install the controller on the left side of the steering wheel, and fairly high up, where I thought it would be easier to see and access if needed. Maybe so, but it was also a bit in the way getting into and out of the truck and I ended up whacking it a couple of times with a knee when I wasn't paying attention. Not good, so I eventually moved it back to the spot that etrailer used in the video and it works just fine. 208942

This unit is replacing a time delay brake controller originally on my F-250 Super Duty. I had put one of these on my other F-250 3 years ago and was extremely pleased with the smoothness and operation. It was a snap to install since the trucks already have the harnesses and 7 pin connectors in place. I use it with trailers that average 7000 -8000 pounds and dual axles. And as always, etrailer had the best price and fast delivery as well as someone who could quickly answer my technical question about replacing the old time delay controller. 131195

I ordered this controller for my 2011 GMC Sierra z71. I finally pulled my car trailer this weekend and let me tell you, it made a world of a difference. I no longer have my trailer pushing my truck when I'm slowing down. The only downside is trailer doesn't recommend you buying the 2 nuts to hook to the fuse box terminals. Also you will need a 40 amp fuse for it to work on a gmc or Chevy. Other than that I am very please with the overall product. The installation video that was available on your website was very accurate in showing where cables were located and what needed to be done. The installation into my 2009 Silverado took about 30 minutes wich is about what the video indicated. I've used my new Prodigy P2 controller once and it is wonderful. 2010 Chevy Silverado

Just put my brake controller in my truck, hooked up to my horse trailer and it works great. I have a 2010 Silverado and the video you have for my truck made the job so easy and trouble free. What a great job showing the wire connections, what fuses to use, where they went in the fusebox and even told what size nuts to use to connect hot wires to the fusebox. Great Job!! 37261

Dodge Ram 2500

Simple install The controller came as advertised and was shipped very quickly. I also ordered the vehicle specific cable and it mounted up to the truck just like the picture showed. I mounted the controller with the supplied hardware and I would have included a picture but it did not turn out as it blends in the lower dash so well. 2002 Dodge 4x4 2500 24v Cummings 4975

2008 Scion

Fabulous product. My son installed this on our 2008 Scion XB. He had to use the wiring kits from etrailer and totally wire it from scratch. I highly recommend this brake controller. It has all the options and then some. Very safe and easy to install if you know what you are doing. It will mount in any of 360 degrees making it easy to find a good place for it. 50641

2006 Chevy TrailBlazer

I purchased a combo wire stripper/crimping tool from local hardware store and, after watching your installation video for the 2006 trailblazer with factory installed 7 way , I installed this product with no problems in less than 30 min. No previous experience. Best of all when I rented the horse trailer and plugged it in to my vehicle everything worked. 129224

2007 Toyota Tundra

I ordered the prodegy 2 brake controller and it was delivered quickly. I had a question as to where the wires were for the unit to plug into on my 2007 Tundra so I called tech support. After talking to Dan, he answered all my questions in a short amount of time and the rest of the install was easy. Thanks for a great product and great help. 51664

Toyota Tundra

The folks at etrailer were excellent in helping me pick this product and get it to me in time for my camping trip. The kit was excellent and the instructional video for the Toyota Tundra was outstanding in its quality and east of understanding. I highly recommend etrailer for anyone regardless of experience. Thanks again etrailer!!!! 36425

2005 Toyota Tacoma

The 3040-P cable plus the 90885 electric brake controller were perfect for my 2005 Tacoma quad cab manual shift truck. I just had to take of the plastic cover bordering the front of the drivers door and the floor. That exposed the white connector. I then removed the fuse box door and used that opening to mount the controller. 140002

2014 Toyota

Worked just as described in the video. Hooked it up in a 2014 Toyota Tundra. The only hard part was putting in the screw on the right side - just not enough room for fingers in that little space in the truck. Didn't have to make any adjustments, and really appreciated that they included the correct adapter plugs as a set. 125177

2002 Toyota Tundra

Installed on 2002 Toyota Tundra with ETBC7. Truck didn't have factory tow package. Appears to work fine. Ran down the road to test brakes/manual boost. Will have to pull fully loaded trailer to feel the difference. Will be used with a 14' two-axle utility trailer. Great customer service from, by the way. 58591

2012 Hyundai

We got a draw tight trailer hitch for our brand new 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe. We watched the video and the installation was so easy and wonderful. It also looks very nice because it fits so tight can hardly see it. I would highly recommend. Also E trailer sent it to us faster than anticipated. Thanks E trailer. 33432

2005 Chevy Silverado

The brake booster and GM cable was shipped and received very fast. Installation was easy on my 2005 Silverado that has factory tow package. It only took me about 30 minutes to install and set up. Tested with my popup camper and it worked flawlessly, would definitely recommend etrailer and this brake booster 205983

Jeep Liberty

No one would ever accuse me of being a handyman. I know which end of the screwdriver to hold, but that's about it. I asked a couple of email questions and had a few looks at their helpful online videos, and I had the Tekonsha P2 installed in my Jeep Liberty in just a couple of hours. It works perfectly! 24356
