Pintle Hooks, Mounts and Lunette Rings
Lunette rings are popular with the heavy-duty type of trailer applications, such as bobcat trailers. The lunette ring (on the trailer) is lowered with a jack onto the bottom of a pintle hitch (attached to a vehicle), just as a standard trailer coupler is onto a ball. Once the lunette ring is in the place, the top of the pintle hitch closes and locks in place. The lunette ring on the trailer often sits in a channel that allows the user to adjust the coupling height, ensuring a level ride. Many pintle mounts also allow the user to adjust the height of the pintle hitch. Some pintle hitches, called "pintle hook combos," include a trailer hitch ball that will also allow the user to pull a trailer with a standard coupler.
