Even Brake Supplemental Braking System Error Message Tow Break Away Emergency Brake Applied- The message that is appearing on the hand held monitor for the Even Brake, # RM-9400, could be occurring from 1 or more of 3 possible causes.
First, the breakaway switch itself might be going bad. The only way to determine this is to replace it using # RM-650898. Before doing that there are a couple of other things you can check.

Recommendations for Installation Locations of Invisi-Brake Controller on a 2013 Ford Explorer- You can install the controller basically wherever you think will work the best for you, it is not required that you put it behind the front seat like the video I attached shows, but you may find that installing it on the driver side of the vehicle will make the install easier. Preventing Flat Towed 2012 Wrangler Brake Light From Overriding Coach Brake Signal- If you turn the ignition key of the Wrangler to the Towing Position, and you step on the brake pedal and the brake lights light up, you will have interference problems.
I believe removing the stop light fuse would accomplish what you are trying to do, but the danger there is remembering to replace the fuse when you are ready to drive the vehicle. Does a 2008 Chevy HHR Need a Brake Light Relay to be Flat Towed- On the 2008 Chevy HHR, Roadmaster recommends installing a 12 volt outlet, # RM-9332, and a brake switch kit, # RM-751428.
Because your HHR has a combined brake and turn signal circuit, a brake light relay, # RM-88400, is not needed.

The systems I recommend are what are called Portable Proportional Systems. One example is the Even Brake, # RM-9400.
