Expert Answers about Hitch Bike Racks

  • How Much Does the Thule Doubletrack Weigh and Can 1 Person Handle Installation
  • The shipping weight of the Thule Doubletrack, # TH990XT, is 47 pounds. If you subtract about 5 pounds for packaging you are looking at about 42 pounds. This is light enough for most people to handle themselves but 2 people would also make installation/removal easier. The Swagman XTC-2, # S64670, would also be a good choice. It is lighter at 34 pounds shipping weight. It will also work with 1-1/4 inch or 2 inch trailer hitch receivers. I have included links to videos for each rack shown on a 2

  • How to Lock the Anti-Rattle Knob on the Thule Apex Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack
  • The anti-rattle knob on the Thule Apex, # TH9025, can be tricky. The key is that the rack has to be in the hitch and the knob has to be unlocked and tightened down as much as you can by hand. Then when you lock the knob, the knob should just spin and not be able to loosen or tighten. I made a video showing this for you to view.

  • Are The Wheel Cradles Adjustable On The SportRack Hitch Bike Rack, # A30901LR
  • I called the supplier (SportRack) to see if the wheel cradles are adjustable on the SportRack Hitch Bike Rack, # A30901LR, and they said that they are not adjustable. The bike rack does come with a locking hitch pin that locks the bike rack to the receiver hitch.

  • Can I Load Just 1 Bike on the Non-Vehicle Side of the SportWing 2 Bike Rack on a 2010 Honda Civic
  • I do not see why not. You can load your bike onto the location that is easiest for you as long as you do not exceed the capacity of the rack (100 pounds) or the hitch on your 2010 Honda Civic (200 pounds). Normally, it is always recommended that the bike be loaded on the location closest to the vehicle. But I spoke with my contact at Highland, the manufacturer, and they said that you could place just 1 bike in either position though the spot closest to the vehicle is recommended. I have incl
