Expert Answers about Hitch Bike Racks

  • Yakima Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
  • To determine if the Yakima KingPin 4 Bike Rack # Y02441 will clear the spare tire on your 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited you will need to take one simple measurement. You will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the furthest point out on the rear spare tire. If that dimension is more than 8 inches this rack wouldn't work for you as it has a distance of 8 inches from it's hitch pin hole to the upright mast of the rack. Most likely the measurement you will take...

  • Yes, you can increase the capacity of the 3 platform racks Thule T2 # TH916XTR, Kuat NV # N101, and Sport Rider SE2 # HR1450 you referenced. You only missed few, which is the Yakima HoldUp # Y02443, # S64696, Here is the list for you: Thule T2, # TH916XTR (40 pounds) can expand using # TH918XTR (44 pounds). You can also view this sold together # TH916XTR-918XTR. Kuat NV # N101 (50 pounds) can expand using # N103 (30 pounds). Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 # HR1450 (45 pounds)...

  • 2 Bike Rack and Hitch Recommendation for a 2013 Volkswagen GTI
  • Both the Kuat Beta Bike Rack part # B202-114 and the Rhino Rack Bike Rack part # RRRBC045 would work great on your 2013 Volkswagen GTI as long as you have a hitch installed on it like the Draw Tite part # 24904. If you wanted to convert the Kuat so that it can be used on a 2 inch hitch all you would need is the adapter part # D101. The Rhino Rack can tilt away like the Kuat. I attached a picture that shows it being tilted for you to check out. Both racks are great, but if it was...

  • Will the Yakima SwingDaddy 4-Bike Rack # Y02464 Clear Spare of a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
  • To determine if the Yakima SwingDaddy 4-Bike Rack # Y02464 will clear the rear spare of your 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited you will need to take one simple measurement. You will need to measure from the center of your hitch pin hole out to the furthest point out on your spare. The # Y02464 measures 12 inches from the center of it's pin hole to the upright mast of the rack. As long as the measurement you took is less than that this should work great for you. Most likely it will be right...

You can separate this product as well so that if you only ever wanted to just use the bike rack or just the cargo carrier you could do that as well. I attached a review video for this product as well.

  • Does the Sway Bar of a 2001 BMW Z3 Need to be Removed to Install Curt Hitch
  • Sounds like you are talking about the installation of the Curt Hitch part # C11748 on your 2001 BMW Z3 which does require some drilling. I checked the installation instructions for this hitch and it is not required that you remove the sway bar so you shouldn't have to do that to drill the holes. You will have to remove the rear bumper temporarily though. Check out the install instructions I attached.

  • Compatibility of Pro Series Translite # PS63144 Bike Rack with Beach Cruisers
  • If your bikes weigh 30 lbs or less apiece, the Pro Series Translite # PS63144 would be compatible. Getting 4 larger bikes on the rack at the same time would be a little challenging, but if you alternated the direction each subsequent bike faced and made sure the bike's pedals were indexed properly, they should fit. • Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for Fat Bike
  • I have a solution for you, but the Rhino Rack Bike Rack part # RRRBC048 that you referenced would not be the platform bike rack to use for carrying a fat bike. Instead you would want the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 2-Bike Rack for Fat Bikes # HR1450-FB. • Recommendations for Towing a Trailer and Carrying Bikes with a Toyota Tacoma
  • The easiest solution would be to use a tailgate bike rack like the # SR26461. Your bikes will basically just set on the top of your tailgate with this rack. Your hitch should have a sticker on it that lists the capacity and class of the hitch. If your hitch is a Class I, you'll need to use a Class I compatible bike rack which will limit you to carrying only two bikes. In the past, to avoid confusion, Yakima found it simpler to state their racks wouldn't fit Class I hitches than it would be to explain that they would fit some Class I's but not others. You will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the furthest point out on your spare. If that distance is less than 9-1/4 inches the rack would clear. • Hitch Recommendation for Carrying Thule T2 # TH916XTR Bike Rack on 2014 Ford Explorer
  • I'd recommend the Curt Class III hitch, part # C13100. The hitch is rated for 4000 lbs towing/400 lbs tongue weight, so it should work great with your Thule bike rack. There are other hitches available, but since all the hitches for your vehicle have the same weight capacity and would install in the same manner, you won't sacrifice anything by going with the least expensive option, the Curt # C13100. I've linked you to an install video for the hitch, as well as a video showing the Thule...

  • Comparing SportRack 2 Bike Rack to Swagman XTC-2
  • Both of these platform bike racks are similar when compared to one another. There are some differences though that I will outline to give you a better idea of what each has to offer and what might work best on your VW Jetta Sportwagen. To start with, all carriers can carry two bikes, but they all have a different overall capacity in terms of weight. The Swagman XTC-2, # S64670, has a capacity of 35 pounds per bike, or 70 pounds total. The SportRack 2, # SR2901, has a capacity of 45 pounds...

This lock works with the vast majority of hitch receivers so they do not offer another option. The good news is that you can still secure the rack to your hitch by just using the threaded hitch pin and washers. You'll want to make sure that the hitch pin has been fully tightened and you are good to go. Although you won't be...

You'll need to measure rearward from the hitch pin hole until you clear the back edge of the spare tire (as shown in the FAQ article I've linked you to.) When we installed hitches on a 2009 RAV4, we found that that the clearance dimension for the Curt # C13149 was about 6 inches. Carrying a third bike, even in a pinch, has the potential to damage the hitch or frame of the vehicle due to the increased leverage. This would be a great rack though.
