Installing the Curt Powered Wiring Harness # C56200KIT on a 2009 Mercedes-Benz C300- I do have some information that will help you install the Curt PWM Powered Wiring Harness, # C56200KIT, but it is important to remember to test each of the wires using a circuit tester, like the Quickee Tester # 3808, before cutting or splicing into your vehicles wires.
According to my contact at Curt you will see 7 wires in a row on the back of the driver side and passenger side tail light assemblies. The wire colors and functions are as follows -

Finding the Running Light Wire to Install Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2004 Volvo XC70- If the running lights are on all the time, even the rear tail lights, then it should be easy to find the one wire that is hot all the time. So what you would do is basically find the wire you think it might be when the vehicle is on. Then turn the vehicle off and remove the key. If the tester also goes off when the car goes off but comes back on when the car comes on then that must be the running light circuit.
You can use the video I have linked as a guide. It is on a 2011 Volvo XC70 so the

Can you Route a 4-Way Trailer Connector Under the Vehicle on a 2009 Volvo XC70- Many vehicles will have grommets somewhere in the rear cargo area that will allow you to route wires to the underside of the vehicle. When we installed the Curt Wiring Harness Kit, # 56146KIT, on a 2011 Volvo XC70, we found a grommet just under the spare tire (see photo). The 2011 XC70 is the same generation as your 2009 XC70, so you should have this grommet as well. Sometimes the gro

This harness was designed not to interfere with any bulb warnings or sensors on your vehicle. This harness uses power from the vehicle battery to power the lights on a trailer, so it will not draw any power from your vehicles tail light circuits. The wiring harness simply uses the signal from your tail light circuits to tell the converter box when to send power to the trailer connector.

Troubleshooting Trailer Taillight Malfunction Connected to a 2006 Volkswagen GTI- It sounds like you might have a ground problem on the trailer side of the wiring. Nearly every time there is bizarre behavior on the tail lights of a trailer its because of a faulty ground. I would inspect the wiring for exposed wire/corrosion and fix as necessary. I would start at the trailer connector looking for corrosion and then work your way back to the taillight assemblies. A lot of light assemblies ground through the mounting hardware, so you may need to check where that your assembly is
