Expert Answers about Tires and Wheels

  • Do Kenda Karrier ST 175/80R13 Trailer Wheels/Tires, Part # AM31951, Come Pre-Balanced
  • The Kenda Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Wheel/Tire, part # AM31951, is not fully dynamically balanced when the tire is mounted. Full dynamic balancing of trailer tires is less critical than for passenger vehicle tires, where a severe out-of-balance condition could be noticeable. However, Kenda does match the low spot of the tire with the high spot of the wheel when mounting them to achieve a partial balance.

  • How to Identify Trailer Axles
  • Depending on how the trailer was made, there will be a few spots you can check to identify the axle. First, if the trailer was pre-made by a specific company, you may be able to find this information in either the paperwork or on a placard somewhere on the frame. Sometimes, the axle identity is stamped into the axle itself or into the hub if it was purchased as a complete assembly. If you cannot find any markings or notation for the axle, you will need to look for replacement parts base

  • Meaning of F78-14 Designation on Kenda Loadstar ST205/75-14 # AM1ST86 Tire
  • The F78-14 shown on the ST205/75-14 # AM1ST86 tire you referenced designates the old tire size for that tire. The alpha numeric tire sizing was common in the 1960s and early to mid 1970s. A few of the tire companies still show the older tire sizes to help folks cross-reference when they are replacing old tires.

  • What is the Speed Rating For Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire - 205/65-10
  • The trailer tires that we carry, like # AM1HP56, are rated for up to 65 miles per hour. I do not recommend running then any faster than that because they can build up excess heat. Since trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall than vehicle tires they also need to be inflated to the maximum psi as indicated on the tire. If under inflated this will lead to excessive heat build up and the tire can fail. I have included a link to our tire FAQ for you.

  • What is the Speed Rating on a 5.30x12 Trailer Tire
  • Many times, trailer tires do not have a speed rating. The tires that we carry are rated for up to 65 miles per hour unless otherwise indicated on the tire sidewall. Since 185/80-12 is not a common trailer tire size, it would require going to a 13 inch wheel and you may or may not have clearance around the tire for the larger size. There is a 145/80-12 trailer tire size that will be about a half inch wider than a 5.30x12. I have included a link to them for you to view and a link on trailer ti

  • Loadstar or Kenda Tires
  • Kenda is the name of the tire manufacturer, and Loadstar is the name of the model or tread design of the particular tire. If you click on the second thumbnail photo under the photo on the product description page, and scroll your cursor over it, you can see Loadstar printed on the tire. The part # AM30620 is a load range C tire with a 990 lb capacity at 90 psi. For maximum tire life and performance, trailer tires should be kept at the maximum pressure shown on the tire sidewall.

  • What is the Speed Rating for a 4.8x12, 2-Ply Trailer Tire
  • If you are using our tires, they are all rated for 65 miles per hour maximum, regardless of how far you are going, unless otherwise noted on the tire sidewall itself. While there is a formula for tire speed based on size and construction of the tire, it is not applied to trailer tires. Trailer tires should also be inflated to the maximum psi rating as indicated on the tire. Because trailer tires are made with a thicker sidewall to handle more vertical load, under inflating a trailer tire woul

  • Does The Kenda ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire and Wheel # AM32153 Come Balanced
  • The wheel and tire combinations do not come balanced from the supplier. The supplier will mount the heavy spot of the tire with the light spot on the wheel, but it is not completely balanced. You will want to have the wheel with tires balanced for optimal performance, even tire wear and decreased vibration. This wheel and tire combination is designed for use on trailers only. I walked out to our warehouse and checked our inventory on the Kenda ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire and Wheel, part #

  • Speed Rating for Trailer Tires and Troubleshooting a Bouncing Trailer
  • All of the trailer tires we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour which is suitable for highway speeds. A 4.8-12 trailer tire, like the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM10062, is rated for 90 psi. You should always inflate a trailer tire to the max psi rating indicated on the tire. Trailer tires are made with a thicker side wall to handle more vertical load. Under-inflating a trailer tire will cause excessive heat build up and cause the tire to fail. What is probably causing your trailer

  • When Should Trailer Tires be Changed on a 2004 Rockwood Roo Travel Trailer
  • How often you need to change trailer tires depends on several factors. A trailer that has good tread depth and is not towed often with tires that are in good shape you will only need to change out the tires once the tread depth gets to 2/32 of an inch. If the trailer sits for long periods of time and is exposed to the elements, the tires can experience dry rot. These tires should be changed before towing, even if they have a good tread depth. Also, to help prevent blowouts always inflate a

  • How to Determine if a Trailer Wheel is Hub-Centric or Lug-Centric
  • First, I would say if there is any question on the road worthiness of the trailer, take the steps to correct it. Better safe than sorry. Some trailers have wheels that are hub-centric, the wheel is centered on the hub using the center pilot holes. Other trailers have wheels that are lug-centric, the wheel is centered on when you tighten down the lug nuts. To determine which one you have on your trailer, take a look at how the wheel attaches to the hub. If it uses wheel bolts, like # 7-23,

  • Things to Consider When Choosing Replacement Trailer Tires
  • If the trailer is made for 185/80-13 tires, then I would stick to that size. But if you need to go to a different size, there are some things to consider. Going to a smaller size like the 175/80-13 will not cause problems in terms of the tire interfering with the trailer or fenders, but you will have a lower capacity. For capacity, you will want to go by the axle capacity. This information can usually be found on a plate or sticker on the trailer frame or tongue. If you decide that you nee

  • Do Tire and Wheel Combinations Come Already Balanced
  • The wheel and tire combos, like the Karrier ST215/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire and White Wheel, # AM32181, are not shipped to us balanced and we do not have the equipment to balance them. A trailer tire does not have to be balanced but you can certainly do so at a local tire shop. A lot of the time, but not every time, when we receive the tire/wheels the heavy spot on the tire will be offset by the light spot of the wheel so that the tire is a little more balanced. • All of the trailer tires we carry are now rated for 65 miles per hour. For the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM30120, that you have referenced, the tire has a capacity of 910 pounds at 75 psi. Trailer tires should be inflated to their maximum indicated psi rating for best performance and longer life.

  • Durability of Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM10004, For Extended Highway Travel Under Load
  • The Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM10004, is rated for speeds not exceeding 65 miles per hour. Provided that the tire is not overloaded (one tire is rated at 760 pounds at 90 psi) and it is inflated to the maximum psi rating of 90 pound per square inch, then the tire will last a long time and perform well for you. Trailer tires have thicker sidewalls that allow them to carry a heavier vertical load. If the tire is under inflated, it can cause the sidewall to heat up quicker and more which
