Video Transcript for Tow Ready Wiring 30717 Review

Today were going to review part number 30717. This is the Tow Ready four-way to seven-way trailer wiring adapter. This adapter will convert from your four-way on your vehicle to a seven-way round plug. There are additional wire leads for brake, power and accessories which are 12 inches long. Basically what you would do is your vehicle would need a four-way on the back of the vehicle that you would plug this into to get you your four-way, and then you would have four extra wires here. Basically the white wire would connect to the vehicle frame for ground.

The black wire would be used to connect to the battery for 12 volt power. You connect it with a fuse or an in-line breaker. The yellow wire would be an auxiliary wire for 12 volt power, reverse lights or reverse lockout for trailer brakes. The blue wire would be used to connect to an output wire for brake controller. Lots of times this adapter is used when somebody is installing a brake controller on their vehicle because the brake controller does require a seven-way at the back of your vehicle.

If any of these wires, the features of thee wires are not required you can take them out and put them out of the way, but I would recommend to mount the ground wire. The length on this adapter is 12 inches long. That should do it for review on part number 30717.

this connector along with the short L bracket and the mount bracket- gave me a nice connector to my hitch. Though I used the short connector and did have to slightly bend it to allow the 4 to 7 pole connector to fit. If Id bought the long L bracket-- It could have worked-- but bending a little worked well. 68963

Connected existing 4 pole from van to seven pole on my pop up camper. 90538

Still happy with the connector. Traveled from Buffalo to Mt Rushmore then St.Louis and back this past summer. No problems.

Has been working great since purchased and installed 3 months ago. Used for several different trailers and long distance trips. Easy to install. Had to be slightly creative with the attachment of the ground. Did not see a reason to have a ground on this portion since everything else is already grounded, however would not work without grounding to the frame. Only used the four way connection and taped remaining three back. Hope for good things to come with this produce. Highly recommend this product. 93648

Had the same issue with the ground kurt. Almost gave up on it until I read your post. Thanks.

We only discovered this site recently and LOVE it. You don't have to know what you want, the questions lead you to exactly what you are needing. The item is of great quality, and as described. We can now swap from truck to jeep with our trailer, and simply without effort. We have found our new 'to go' store for our trailer shopping. Customer Service by the way, terrific, great communication, and very quick shipping. Really Great Experience, Highly recommend. 121873

The product did not come fully fabricated. When I connected to the trailer I could not get any signal to transfer through. So I took the item apart and the 4 pin ground was not connected to the 7 way ground. This meant I didn't get a closed circuit when connected. After stripping the ground wires and connecting them the product worked great. I would suggest buying if you know how to modify in order to connect the ground wires 46844

I received this purchase and was installing it the next day. Luckily I read the other reviews and saw that I HAD to attach the white ground cord that was sticking out of the harness. Upon looking, I found the white wire that comes out out of the flat 4 plug isn't attached to anything thus requiring the ground to be attached to the vehicle. All in all, I was very satisfied with this purchase. 178592

The adaptor was shipped almost immediately, but took longer to arrive than I had expected, if you need is quickly, ask for expedited shipping. The adaptor worked fine once I connected a seperate ground wire from the adaptor's white wire to a ground on my vehicle. Instructions/warning should be included noting that the 4-wire connectors ground does not pass through the adaptor. 138958

Good adapter Bought this adapter to convert from a 4-wire standard trailer plug to my Coleman pop-up camper 7-wire adapter. It works great! Just don't forget to attach the adapter's white ground wire to the vehicle frame, since the adapter does not make use of the ground return lead built into the 4-wire trailer plug. This is stated in the instructions, but easy to forget... 768

Product exactly as described, and exactly what I needed. My van is wired with a 4 pin connector(harness with factory plug-in purchased from Etrailer some time ago), but I occasionally need to tow a trailer that has the 7 pin connector. This will work perfectly. I really appreciate the additional documentation and support from Etrailer, as well as the super-fast shipping. 107666

This will be the 3rd connector that I have put on my van. Since I already had the flat 4 connector, installing this connector was a snap. The connector doesn't come with any mounting hardware and I needed to run to the hardware store and purchase 4 nuts and bolts to mount it. If this is your first mounting, you are probably also going to need to purchase a bracket. 151414

I actually ordered a trailer hitch, T-wiring harness, and 7 pin connector. Everything arrived in great condition in just a few days. Shipping was VERY fast (due to telephone ordering) and exceeded my expectations. I am very happy with the products, shipping, arrival condition, and installation support. I will definitely recommend etrailer.com to other people. 92151

I havent used this towing, but as far as the install foes, I had the whole thing installed in about 45mins. It only took so long because my son was wanting to help and learn. Plus there was the brake controller install inside the cab. Other than that everything is plug and play. This is the easiest product I have put on my truck so far. 77197

This is a great product . The price was $18.00 dollars cheaper than some I found online. I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 pickup, this adapter will change the 4 pole( which is made on my truck) to a 7 pole( which is on the trailer I will be using). The product connected, and bolted up to my truck bumper very easy. E trailer is the best. 121019

The adapter I ordered was excellent, the two brackets I ordered to use with the adapter were excellent, but the hose clamp to attach the bracket was a piece of junk, I spent an hour trying to get it to work and the auto parts guys couldn't get it to work either, so I bought one of theirs. wasted a lot of time on it. 62168

I needed something to enable my 4 pin equipped Wrangler to power the ligts/turnsignals when I move the 7 pin equipped 16' car hauler. Now I can have lights/turn signals when I move the empty trailer around after dropping the Jeep off of it, no longer have to try to maneuver the trailer around with a 38' motorhome. 32050

The 4 Pole to 7 Pole adapter is excellent. It is exactly what I was looking for and the quality is superb. It saves time and is simpler to use than having to figure out different color codes and splicing wires. It is a much cleaner look than having wires hanging all over the place. 46131

Great item, great price. Be aware that the white wire from the 4 way is not connected...it is cut about 4 inches long and hidden within the plastic harness covering. I believe that they expect grounding to be accomplished via the heavy white wire with solderless connector. 107240

Exactly what i was looking for. Easy install. Going from 4pole to 7pole was a breeze. I actually hardwired mine, the white ground in 4pole adapter is a dummy. So make sure you ground out the 7pole connector seprately or connect to am existing trailer ground. 154914

If you have a typical adapter like our part # 30717, the ground wire should be white and the power wire is typically black or red. The remaining wires can be tied off. You also have the option connect the auxiliary wire if you need to power backup lights or another accessory on your trailer. This wire is typically orange or purple in color. To...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Turn Signals With 1997 Ford F150 With Factory Wiring Harness
  • You can check the mini fuse panel located behind the power distribution box. There should be a 20 amp fuse in location 2 for the trailer tow stop/turn lamps. Also, in the power distribution box, there is a 40 amp fuse in location 16 for trailer tow battery charge and stop/turn lamps. If this fails to correct the problem you can troubleshoot. The best way is to disconnect the truck and trailer and test each one individually. If you happen to have access to another truck or trailer that...

  • Brake Controller Wiring on a 2002 Ford F-250
  • For the Pilot 2-6 Brake Electronic Brake Controller - Time Delayed # 80550 you can use Universal Brake Control Wiring Adapter # 20260. If you have factory 7-Way the only part needed to install a brake controller is the brake controller and wiring adapter. Usually the factory will already give you a brake control adapter that connects to the brake controller and plugs into the dash. If you do have this harness you can also use it with the Pilot. The OEM plug is on the drivers side, usually...

  • Wiring The 4 to 7-Way Adapter # 30717 to a 1983 Ford Ambulance To Pull a Race Car Trailer
  • If you have the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole, part # 30717, I would recommend using a circuit tester, part # 3808 to test the functions of each pin on the 7-way. I have attached an FAQ Article showing the functions of each pin for the vehicle side 7-Way. The other thing I would recommend checking is the 7-Way connector on the trailer, to make sure there is not corrosion in the connector. If there is corrosion in the connector, it will need to be replaced. I would also recommend checking...

  • Can a 4-Way to 7-Way Trailer Wiring Adapter be Installed Just for Lighting Functions on a Trailer
  • Yes, you can just plug in the 4-Way from your 2007 GMC Acadia into the Tow Ready Adapter, # 30717, but you will have to ground the white wire on the adapter. It will need to attach to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface. If the trailer does not have electric brakes, it makes me wonder why it has a 7-Way. If it has items on it that require 12 volt power you would need to connect the black wire on the adapter to the vehicle battery via a 40 amp circuit breaker, # PK54540, and...

  • Installing a 7-Way Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500
  • First, I would be certain that your 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 uses a 24 system. If you have 2 batteries and the positive of one is connected to the negative of the other, then it is a 24 volt system. But if the positive of one is connected to the positive of the other (and the same for the negatives) then you have a 12 volt system. If you do have a 24 volt system what you would need to do to get power to the 7-Way would be to splice in a wire to the cable that goes from the positive of one...

  • Connection of Reverse Lockout Circuit to 7-Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector
  • The Center pole on the 7-Pole connector, item # 30717, will be connected to the yellow wire. If your trailer uses the center pole for the reverse lockout on your hydraulic surge brakes then you will connect the heavier yellow wire to the reverse circuit behind the vehicle taillights. You will need to use a circuit tester, item # 3808 if you need one, to find the correct wire to splice into. The blue wire on the 7-Pole connector is for electric brakes and is normally ran to a brake controller,...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2007 Chevy Express Van
  • First, in order to determine what hiring harness you will need, you will need to know what type of connector the trailer has and if it has electric brakes. Most trailer use either a 4-Way flat, or a 7-Way blade style RV connector. I recommend installing what is called a multi-tow system that includes both. You will first need to install a 4-Way wiring harness, 118392. This is a simple T-one connector that plugs in line with the vehicle tail lights. I have included a link to the installation...

  • Parts Needed to Get Prodigy RF Brake Control to Work on 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser with 4-Way Connector
  • Since your 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser already has a 4-Way installed you will just need a 4 to 7-Way adapter, a 40 amp circuit breaker, and some wire. You only need the light functions and the 12 volt circuit to work on the vehicle side 7-Way in order for the Prodigy RF, # 90250, to function. For a 4 to 7-Way adapter you can use # 30717 that you mentioned. The white wire will need to be ground to the frame and the 4-Way plugged into it. That leaves 3 more wires. The black wire is the...
