Today were going to review part number 30717. This is the Tow Ready four-way to seven-way trailer wiring adapter. This adapter will convert from your four-way on your vehicle to a seven-way round plug. There are additional wire leads for brake, power and accessories which are 12 inches long. Basically what you would do is your vehicle would need a four-way on the back of the vehicle that you would plug this into to get you your four-way, and then you would have four extra wires here. Basically the white wire would connect to the vehicle frame for ground.

The black wire would be used to connect to the battery for 12 volt power. You connect it with a fuse or an in-line breaker. The yellow wire would be an auxiliary wire for 12 volt power, reverse lights or reverse lockout for trailer brakes. The blue wire would be used to connect to an output wire for brake controller. Lots of times this adapter is used when somebody is installing a brake controller on their vehicle because the brake controller does require a seven-way at the back of your vehicle.

If any of these wires, the features of thee wires are not required you can take them out and put them out of the way, but I would recommend to mount the ground wire. The length on this adapter is 12 inches long. That should do it for review on part number 30717.

Where Do the Black and Blue Wires on 30717 Attach To on a 1999 Ford F-250
If your truck has the brake controller port underneath the dash, then there will be some wiring towards the rear of the truck that you will need to splice into. The blue wire on part # 30717 needs to be spliced into the blue wire on the factory tow wiring. We have an instructional page that shows how this is done that I have linked to below. On the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector, # 30717, the extra wires can be taped off, tied up with a cable tie, and tucked out of the way if not in use. I would attach the white ground wire to an existing grounding point or the vehicle frame even if you do not intend on adding a brake controller (which is what the other wires are for).
