Video Transcript for Tow Ready Wiring 118709 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 118709. This is the Tow Ready 7-pole round pin to 4-pole flat wiring adapter. It's a nice compact design. It's going to promote quick and easy conversion of your 7-pole connector to your 4-pole flat connector. It's going to allow one vehicle to tow either campers or boat trailers without electrical brakes. Now it looks like this is going to allow us to connect your ground, left turn, right turn and stop circuits. Tow Ready makes this from a noncorrosive construction that's with the outer and inner components.

It's got the nice easy grip design as well that's going to allow for a quicker connection and disconnecting. We'll go ahead and take a measurement of the overall length just to see how compact it is. It looks like from edge-to-edge it's going to give us a measurement of about 4-1/4 of an inch. It is designed for vehicles with 7-pole round pin connectors. You can see here that the 7-pole round pin portion only has the necessary contacts installed for the 4-pole flat connector. A very simple operation and connection.

All you have to do is plug the 7-pole into place and then here on the back side of the plug you're going to be able to make the 4-way flat connection. That's going to do it for our review of part number 118709. This is the Tow Ready 7-pole round pin to 4-pole flat wiring adapter. .

I used this product along with your Trailer End Connector - 4-Flat - Coiled cord - item #54000-026, on the lights on our Brent and Parker grain wagons. This has worked out great so far. We haven't had the problem of too much or too little cord for the trailer lights, which allows the cord to get pinched and cut or stretched and broke. I just need to come up with a method of securing the cord and plug to the trailer tongue when not in use. 103907

It's not about the product here, what's the difference between one adapter and the next? Not much, it's about the service and support from the AWESOME team here at etrailer. They make sure to let you know all the details of each product and even double checked that something I ordered would work for what I want....and it didn't so saved me time and trouble of returning it. Though that process is also great with them too. Thanks again for a great experience ETrailer!! Look forward to the next time. 198538

Great customer service. Charlene C informed me that what I'd ordered would be delayed and offered an "in-stock" substitution option. Actually was cheaper and upon delivery found it to be equal to my original choice. I am very happy with the service and product. 96356

Do you have a question about this Wiring?

  • Wiring US 4-Pole Trailer Connector to For Trailer with European 7-way
  • I am not aware of the existence of an adapter, but one could be easily constructed. You will need to find a vehicle-side socket to receive the plug from your trailer. We do not carry them, so you will need to obtain one locally. You will also need a vehicle to vehicle taillight converter like part # 118158 and a trailer side 4-pole like part # 18004. You would then wire the converter as shown in the diagram I provided. Using this adapter will separate the turn signal back out so that...

  • Can a European 7-Way Trailer Connector be Converted to a U.S. 4-Way
  • No. The 7-Way end in the # 118709 adapter is made for the North American style of 7-Way round pins. A European 7-Way, see picture, has separate turn signals and brake lights and a circuit for fog lamps. The tail lights are also separate. You would need to fabricate a special adapter to get the 2 to work together. I would need to know which end has the European 7-Way, the vehicle or the trailer. It would also require a semi-permanent change to the connector on the vehicle or possibly...

  • Recommendation for Converting a Euro Style 7-Way to a Standard 7-Way
  • I wish I had an adapter that would allow you to plug your Euro 7-way from your Jeep Wrangler into the connector of your trailer but we do not carry anything that will do that. The best solution I can offer you is to cut the Euro 7-way off of your vehicle and wire a new 7-way to your vehicle by function. The best way to do that is to use a circuit tester like our # 3808 to determine the functions of the wires by having a buddy apply the different brake and tail light functions while you...

  • Splicing in a 7-Way Trailer Connector to Trailer Tail Light Kit # TL5RK
  • The issue is that on the 7-Way you bought the wire colors and functions do not match the 4-Way in the light kit. On the 7-Way it has the following wire colors and functions: White is ground Red is left turn/brake lights and will connect to the yellow wire on the light kit Brown is right turn and brake and will connect to the green wire on the light kit Green is tail lights and will connect to the brown wire on the light kit Blue is for trailer brakes Black is for 12 volt power Yellow...

  • Light Kit to Flat Tow a 2015 Ford F-150 Behind a Motor Home
  • For your 2015 Ford F-150 you can use 4-diode kit # RM-154. This is a more permanent installation that does require tapping into the vehicle wiring. For a more temporary solution you could use a magnetic kit such as # C-ATL20A but you would need to also use tow light partners # TLP01 because of the aluminum used in the 2015 Ford F-150s.

  • Flat Towing Wiring Options for 2014 Ford F-150 Platinum
  • Strictly speaking, both you and your friend are correct. It just depends on which type of toad wiring harness is used. The link at right will show you all flat-towing wiring kits for the 2014 Ford F-150 Platinum. These include a custom-fit option from Hopkins, part # HM56000. This kit installs without cutting and splicing by plugging in to the F-150 tail lights and includes integrated diodes to prevent feedback. This operates as a combined lighting system.

  • Adapter Availability for Converting European Trailer Wiring for Use with 4-Pole U.S. Connector
  • We do offer a range of wiring adapters for U.S. standard trailer wiring to convert from, for example, 7-way to 4-way, 5-way or 6-way wiring. These various connector types are shown in the linked article on trailer wiring. However, European trailer wiring does not combine multiple functions on one wire like U.S. wiring. U.S. 4-pole trailer connectors combine stop and turn signals on one wire; the yellow wire carries stop and left turn; the green wire carries stop and right turn. Since...

  • 7-Way to 4-Way Trailer Connector Adapter for a 2003 Chevy TrailBlazer
  • There are two types of 7-Way trailer connectors. It sounds like you are describing round pins like # PK11720. If that is the case then use adapter # 118709 to go to a 4-Flat. If you have the blade style 7-Way like # PK12707 then use adapter # PK12716 to go to a 4-Flat.

  • Converting European 7-Way on 2014 Volkswagen Golf to US Spec 7-Way
  • You will need to replace either the connector on the VW or the one on the trailer. It would be easier to change the one on the VW because a US spec trailer has different functions than a European trailer and the functions would not match up. US trailers have combined brake lights and turn signals. A European 7-Way has a separate circuit for each light. Since your Golf already has a trailer connector all you will need to do is cut off the 7-Way end. Then you would use a convert to combine...

  • Will the Tow Ready 7 Round Pin Adapter Allow My Freightliner Pull My Utility Trailer With a 4-Way
  • If the plug on your Freightliner is a traditional vehicle side 7-way round pin connector like the one in the picture provided, and it is pinned the same then the Tow Ready 7 way to 4-Flay adapter part # 118709 would work out great. If you use this connector then no additional diodes would be needed.

  • Lighting to Tow a 2015 Ford Fiesta ST Behind a Motor Home
  • Trailer wiring harness # 56047 is for a 2015 Ford Fiesta sedan. But the ST is a hatchback so the harness will not fit. There is currently no trailer wiring harness for the4 2015 ST models or other hatchback models. Another issue is that you would not use this type of harness to tow the Fiesta behind the motor home. This harness is for a Fiesta to tow a trailer behind it. It does not work in reverse so you need a different lighting solution. Since there aren't any plug in tow bar...

  • Can a European 7-Way Trailer Connector be Converted to a U.S. 4-Way
  • You have 2 options. First you can convert the Ford Focus wiring harness, after installed, to match the trailer. Or you can convert the trailer connector to match the vehicle connector, once it is installed. The easiest thing to do would be to convert the trailer but there may be certain lights and functions required in Europe that are not required in the U.S. I will try to cover both ways for you but there is no simple adapter for either method. To convert the vehicle, first you will...

  • Converter To Wire 4-Way Connector On 2009 Jeep Compass To 7-Way European Connector On Trailer
  • We currently do not carry the vehicle-side plug for a European plug like you mentioned is on your motorcycle trailer. You will need to find one locally. You can use the tail light converter like part # 118158, and along with a 4-way harness like part # 18004, you can make an adapter that will work for you. I have attached a photo with all of the wires for input and output noted you can check out. Diodes will not be needed because the trailer will not backfeed through the system.

  • Is there an Adapter that will Convert a 4-way Round Trailer Connector to a 4-way Flat Vehicle End
  • I have checked the adapters that we currently carry, and we do not have an adapter that will fit the configuration that you specified. You could create your own adapter, and it would be composed of the Pollack # PK11410 and the Hopkins Endurance 4-way Flat Trailer connector # HM48110. You would just wire the Hopkins 4-way flat to the Pollack 4-way round connection point. This will create an adapter that will connect the 4-way round on your 1972 trailer with a 4-way flat vehicle connection...

  • Our understanding here at etrailer is that European spec trailer wiring connectors will have many more terminals than 7. However, there are some 7-way round, Euro spec connectors and I attached a diagram of how they are typically wired. What you could do is get a circuit tester like our # 3808 and test the functions of the terminals and compare them to the 7-way wiring chart I attached to see how it compares. • Converting a Trailer with 12 volt Lights to 24 volt Lights for Compatibility with a Euro Spec Truck
  • I think your only real option would be to replace the trailer lights on your trailer with lights that are compatible with 24 volt systems since there isn't an adapter available that we offer that would work for converting your 24 volt system to work with a 12 volt lighting system. Right now, we have a few select 24 volt tail lights. We have # STL23R24B and # STL90R24B. For turn/marker lights we have # STL90A24B and # STL23A24B. And for reverse lights we have # BUL23C24B and # BUL90C24B.

  • What to Do with 12 Volt Circuit when Adapting US 7-Way Trailer Connector to European 7-Way
  • If the European 7-Way trailer connector does not have a 12 volt circuit (which it shouldn't) then you will not have to do anything with that circuit on the vehicle side. When you add a US style 7-Way to the bike rack that circuit will just dead end at the connector. If there is a loose 12 volt circuit wire then you can just use a wire nut or electrical tape and just cap it off and stow it out of the way.

  • 7-Way Round to 4-Way Flat Adapter Recommendation
  • As long as the 7-way round you have on your trailer is wired so that the stop/turn circuits are on the same circuits the # 118709 would be perfect for what you are trying to do. If the 7-way you have is a Euro style that has separate taillight circuits then you would need to make an adapter, but I doubt this is this case. If your 7-way is wired like the diagram I attached you would be good to go.

The US style 4 or 7-Way has combined brake lights and turn signals. What you will have to do is change over the US style 7-Way to a European one. You will need 1 European style vehicle side 7-Way and one special converter that separates the combined signals to separate ones. You will...
