Video Transcript for Optronics Wiring A75TB Review

Today we're going to review part number A75TB. This is the Optronics 7-Way Blade to 5-Way Flat Adapter. Now, this adapter will convert your tow vehicle's 7-way blade connector right here into a 5-way flat pin connector. This model is a nice molded 1 piece unit, has the connector on each end, and also molded in as this nice, easy grip handle, which you can use to plug it in and also to remove it. As you can see here, it has the blade design for the 7-way and then right here for your trailer to hook into, it has the 5-way flat. Now, you can also install a 4-way flat on here. You just don't use that end pin.

That end pin is used in a 5-way. It gives you the reverse light circuit. Because on a trailer that uses a 5-way, it needs that reverse light circuit to activate the reverse lockout on the surge brakes on the trailer. on the 4-pin, it's not required so you just plug a 4-pin in by using the ground and you just don't use this end pin. That should do it for the review on part number A75TB. The Optronics 7-Way Blade to 5-Way Flat Adapter.

Super easy, inexpensive. I was planning to add a 5 flat wiring harness for my boat, then I saw this and it works great. 111191

Works as advertised I needed a simple bare bones adapter, and this works perfectly for my needs. Can't beat the price. Product seems well made. I haven't had it long enough to comment on reliability. Customer service at etrailder was fantastic - I ordered two by mistake and they corrected it with one phone call. 3401

Product arrived sooner than expected. Unable to find this locally so this was a pleasant surprise to have the process go so quickly and easily on line. Still 3' of snow and 3' of ice on the lakes so it will be awhile before we get to use the boat. 178871

It works just like it should. I had originally a 4 pin harness on my 2011 pathfinder but change to a factory 7 pin. I bought this 5 pin adapter to use with my boat trailer witch just need a connection to turn off the brakes when I reverse. 78305

  • How to Activate Boat Trailer Surge Brake Lockout from the Factory 7-Way on a 2012 Toyota Tacoma
  • It sounds like you have a factory 7-Way connector on your 2012 Toyota Tacoma and that you also have the dealer supplied electric brake controller wiring harness for wiring an electric brake controller in the cab of your vehicle. Since your boat trailer is equipped with surge brakes, you will not need to install an electric brake controller in the cab of your Tacoma. The first thing you should do is check the center pole, see photo, in the 7-Way connector on your vehicle with a circuit...

I would go ahead and install the 7-Way connector. We have the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, item # ETBC7, which includes everything needed to install the wiring for the 7-way connector, once you have the 4-Way installed. The configurations are different between the 2 different connectors. For an adapter, using the 7 Pole to 5 Pole flat, # A75TB, that you have referenced would work for you if the Ford has the blade style connector. I have included a picture that shows the differences between a 7-Way round pin and 7-Way blade style connector, vehicle side. If the vehicles both...

  • 7-Way Recommendation for Activating Trailer Brakes on a Trailer with a 5-Way

I have a solution for you, but you will not be able to use the Adapter 7 Pole to 5 Pole Flat # A75TB to activate your trailer brakes as it has an empty port where the brake output circuit would be on your tow vehicle connector. I would recommend you confirm that the fifth circuit on your trailer is actually for trailer brakes. You can do this by tracing the wires back from the connector and see if they go to the brake...

If you go this route, you will need to trace each circuit on the trailer to determine its function and then wire it to the plug accordingly. I have provided a graphic showing the function of each individual circuit on the 7-way trailer plug. You also might need a new adapter to connect your 7-way plug on your vehicle to the 5-way...

If you do not know if your Pilot has the OEM tow package, you can contact your dealer or Honda with your VIN and they should be able to tell you. If you does, you would then use adapter part # A75TB to come down to a 5-Way. If you do not have the tow package, you could use part # 118491 and then add a 4-Pole to 5-Pole adapter like part # 20036. You would run the loose blue wire to the tail light circuit on your...

At this time we do not have a 7,000 lb coupler with a reverse lockout factory installed. Surge brakes use the inertia of a vehicle trying to stop the trailer to compress the hydraulic fluid in the master cylinder which then transfers to the brake assemblies and activates the trailer's brakes.
