Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Today on our 2002 Chevy Silverado, we'll be installing the Pollak seven to four pole connector, part number HM40975 in conjunction with the Pollak four foot Pigtail Wiring Harness, part number PK11998. To start, we've already gone ahead and removed the spare tire. Let's go ahead and install our new seven and four pole bracket. We'll be using a self tapping screw provided with our install kit. We'll move just far enough to the left from the center of the hitch so that we can route our wires evenly. Now with our bracket mounted, we can go ahead prepare to start waking our wire connection.

The manufacturer's wiring ends and is lead just above the spare tire here. First we'll go ahead and pull that down to where we can access it. There are a total of six sleeves that come out of the manufacturer's wiring. The light blue will not be used. Our seven pole connector will also come with seven wires, however, two of those will not be used; the black and the blue.

So first we'll go ahead and cut off the ends of the manufacturer's wiring and strip back each wire. Then, we can go ahead and strip back the wire on our seven pole connector and attach the yellow bolt connectors to our seven pole connector wires. Now we can go ahead and secure them to the manufacturer's wiring. The red wire on our seven pole will connect will connect to the yellow wire on the manufacturer's side. The green wire on our seven pole will connect to the brown wire on the manufacturer side.

The yellow wire from our seven pole will connect to the light green wire on the manufacturer side and the brown wire from our seven pole will connect to the darker green wire on the manufacturer's. Now with our install kit, it does provide us with a ring terminal that you can attach directly to the new seven pole and then ground to the frame of the vehicle. However, with this application, manufacturer's provided a ground included with other wires that were dead ended here above the spare tire. So we'll go ahead and make the connection directly to the manufacturer's wiring. Now with all our wires connected, we'll go ahead and take some black electrical tape and wrap them up.

With that done, we'll go ahead and route it over the hitch and to the bracket. Now that we've got our wire routed through the bracket, we'll go ahead and take our new seven and four pole bracket and connect it with the seven pole connector on our wiring. Once connected, we'll also lock in the gray lock tab so that our connector is fully secured. Then we can take the new seven and four pole connector and snap it into the bracket. With that done, I'll go ahead and take some black zip ties to secure the remaining wires. And this will complete our install of the Pollak Seven to Four Pole Connector, part number HM40975 in conjunction with our Pollak Seven Pole Four Foot Pigtail, part number PK11998 on our 2002 Chevy Silverado.

I was tired of having connection issues with the 7 pole to 4 pole adapter and opted to replace my existing plug with one that had both the 7 and 4 pole sockets. This looks like it will last. The 4 pole socket has sturdy brass sockets that should last as long as the truck. It would have been nice to have a piece of paper with the color codes for the wiring harness but a few minutes with an ohm meter solved what went to what. The longest part of the install was figuring out where to mount the bracket.65615

This is exactly what I was looking for my 1999 GMC Sierra 5.3. It didn't have the factory tow package and I wanted both connectors. The 2002 Silverado video is perfect, but if you have a 99 the wiring colors are different. For mine: light green = backup, brown = running lamps, dark green = right turn, yellow = left turn, and white = ground.64242

Very nice and solid product, EXCEPT for the locking clip on the wiring harness plug which is VERY fragile. I broke mine while being very careful. I recommend planning your install so you connect the plug ONCE only. In my install I was able to assemble the socket and plug on the bench and then tape up the whole assembly to hold it together and shed water before sliding it in the hole in the hitch. Hopefully tape will hold the plug on the socket as the fit is loose.56088

The trailer connector is just the ticket. It's well thought out and not too bad to install---that is if you buy from etrailer.com. They can't be equaled for do it your self advice as well as the videos that I would have been dead in the water without. I have a 1978 Argosy Minuet with entirely different wiring order. Thank You Again I'll be back.44531

  • Brake Controller Recommendation and Installation Tips for a 2011 GMC Terrain
  • Since your 2011 GMC Terrain already has a 4-Way trailer connector, you will just need to use a 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This will provide the 7-Way connector, mounting hardware, and the wiring and circuit breakers needed to install a brake controller. I have included links to an FAQ and a video that will help you with the installation. The only other part you may need is a circuit tester, # 3808, unless you already have one. For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P

  • Interior Lights Not Working in a New Trailer with 7 Pin Wiring Harness on a 2002 Jeep Liberty
  • It sounds like you may need to install a fuse in the fuse block under the hood on your 2002 Jeep Liberty to get the 12 volt power circuit at the OEM 7-Way connector to work. But the first thing I would do is check the bulb just to be sure it is not bad, then check to see if the interior trailer light is connected to the running light circuit. Turn on the running lights and if there is a switch in the trailer make sure it is on. If the light does not light, then you can check the power circuit on

  • How to Install a 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Wiring Connector On a 1995 Ford F-350 SuperDuty
  • Installing a 7-Way and 4-Way combination trailer connector, like part # HM40975-11998, that you referenced, on your 1995 Ford F-350 is fairly easy, but for these trucks there are 2 different wiring situations if you do not have a factory 7-way trailer connector. If your vehicle has factory 4-Way trailer wiring at the back you can use the Pollak 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector, # HM40975-11998, and splice the wires to the wires under the rear of the vehicle along the drivers side frame rai

  • Parts Needed to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2011 GMC Terrain
  • In order to install a brake controller on a 2011 GMC Terrain, you will need a few items. First, you will need to have a 4-Way trailer connector installed on the vehicle, # 118494, unless it already has one. Next, you will need a 4 and 7 way installation kit, # ETBC7. This will provide a 7-Way connector and all of the wiring to install it and a brake controller. Last, you will need the actual brake controller. I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885 because it is easy to set up and easy to us

  • Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2002 Ford F-150 with Factory 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector
  • You should be able to trace the 4-Way harness towards the front of the truck and find where it connects to another connector. The connector should be square and look like the plugs for # 118242. Adding this harness and the relays/fuses it comes with will provide you with a 7-Way trailer connector. You could then just use an adapter, # PK12716, when you need a 4-Way. You could use # HM40975-11998 and hardwire it in to the factory wiring harness on the forward side of the truck. You would need

  • Obtaining Brake Stoplight Switch Signal for Brake Controller Install On 2011 GMC Terrain
  • The brake stoplight signal can be accessed at the BCM, As you are sitting in the drivers seat, the BCM (Body Control Module) is located under the dash above where your left knee would be. The module (think of it as a junction box) will have 7 different wire connectors that plug into it. Look for the black connector (all the connectors are different colors) that has 26 different slots for wires to insert into. In wire position # 11, there will be a white wire that carries the brake stoplight sign

  • Locating Brake Stoplight Signal Location on 2012 GMC Terrain
  • Use a circuit tester like part # 40376 on the wire in the # 11 terminal on the black BCM connector, as shown in the diagram I provided. The wire colors can vary during a production run, which is why we typically recommend that folks wire by function, not by wire color. As an alternate method, you can use a fuse tap like part # F2526 on the CHMSL (center high mounted stop lamp) fuse in the fuse box. The lid of the fuse box should have a legend that will tell you which fuse location is needed.

  • What are the Wiring Functions of the Pollak 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Sockets
  • On the 7-Way and 4-Way trailer connector # HM40975-11998, the red wire is for Left turn and stop, white is ground, blue is electric brakes, green is right turn and stop, black is 12 volt battery power, brown is running lights, and yellow is for reverse lights. You will need to use a circuit tester, like # 3808 if needed, to test the wires on your truck to determine their functions. The 8th wire on your truck could be a dedicated brake light that might be used to power a light on a camper shel

Use your tester to test the wiring further forward on the truck to see if there is a point where the signal is good for both the turn signal and the brake light (they are on the same circuit). If there is then you will need to replace the wire for that circuit up to that point. Make sure the new harness is properly grounded as well. It is possible that there is a separa

If you have a factory installed wiring harness on your truck, these circuits should already be combined at the trailer connector. If this is the case, then the issue may likely be a poor ground connection on your trailer. I recommend checking the ground connect
