Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2003 Chevrolet Impala

Today on this 2003 Chevrolet Impala we are going to be installing hard wiring kit 18252. The first thing we need to do is remove the driver side tail light. We are going to undo the tie down screw. Fold back the carpeting in the trunk and as you can see there is three more tail light screws that we are going to be removing and that will pop loose our tail light. Now that our tail light is removed we are going to unplug it and set it out of the way. As you can see these are the wires that we are going to be tapping into. Before we tap into our wires, take the 4-pole and run it down through the bumper and out the bottom. We are going to test our wires to see what function they are going to be. 00:45

First we are going to start off by using the left blinker which is going to be our yellow wire for our blinker and brake signal. We are going to check for the running lights. Our running lights are going to be the brown wire. We are going to take our ground wire and pull it back and run it through as well. We are going to be attaching that to the other side of the vehicle. What it looks like we are going to be doing is just color matching our wires to our plug in. We are going to be taking our yellow wire and quick spliceing it to our yellow wire on our harness. We are going to do the brown wire the same way. We are just going to tape this up to keep it from getting wet. Now once it is all taped up we are complete on the driver side of the vehicle so we are going to take our tail light assembly and put it back in position and thread our hardware on. 01:28

Now we are going to go over to the passenger side and remove the tail light the same way. As you can see we are underneath the vehicle. We are going to run our wires. We are just going to go over the bumper support. We are going to continue to run our wires up and over and then run our green wire over the passenger side bumper support because we are going to be tying that into our passenger side tail light. While we are underneath there we are going to get everything situated underneath there and attach our ground to the other side of the frame and into the sheet metal. We are going to take a ring terminal that you can get at any hardware store and we are going to put it on our ground. Then we will take our wires and clean them up a bit and tape them up, get them out of the way and then we will go up on top and finish installing our green wire to our tail light. As you can see we found our right turn signal which is going to be the green wire. We are going to tap our green wire in our harness into the green wire over here. I am just going to tape off the green wire. Then we are going to plug our tail light assembly back in and if you want to test your wires you can just use the light tester and plug it into the end of the 4-pole and run your functions. This is going to complete the installation for 18252 hardwire kit on this 2003 Chevrolet Impala.
