Video Transcript for Fulton Winches FKW30000103 Review

Today we will be reviewing part number FKW30000103. This is the Fulton worm gear winch rated at 3,000 pounds. The worm gear design has high gear ratios for a better load control. No minimum load is required. The reel will automatically stop when your handle is released. All the bushings are already oil impregnated and the gears are already lubed up and ready to go.

It has a really nice comfort grip handle for easy cranking, and if I measure from end to end, it's going to give us an overall length of about 11 and 1/2 inches. This system has a reinforced frame for proper gear alignment and improved performance. It has a drive ring design. It does come with an adapter crank ring that's included for use with a loop. What that does is if you have this winch mounted to your ceiling, you can actually install this in place of the handle, and then you can get one of those long cranks that have the hand at the bottom that you tighten or loosen. That way you can still have access to the functionality of your winch even when you cannot access the handle. Please keep in mind that this winch is designed for use with cable only.

It does have a cable catch system over here. That's going to hold one end of the cable tight and securely as you bring in the rest of your line. This will accommodate a cable up to 160 feet in length by 3/16 of an inch in width, 90 feet in length by 1/4 of an inch, and 60 feet in length by 5/16 of an inch. The system does have a capacity of up to 3,000 pounds. To bring in a load, we can simply turn this clockwise, and then to extend a load or to let our line out, we simply rotate our handle counter clockwise. This is going to offer a 51:1 gear ratio, so for every 51 full turns of our handle, our hub is going to rotate one full rotation.

Our drum hub offers us a diameter of 3 and 1/8 of an inch. If we take a quick look here on the underside of our winch, you're going to see that it does have pre drilled mount holes for an easy bolt on installation. Our plate's going to measure 8 and 1/2 inches by 7 inches. These four holes are identical. They are going to measure an inch and 1/2 by 3/8 of an inch. This elongated hole is going to measure 1 and 7/8 of an inch by 3/8 of an inch and then these three are all identical, and they're going to measure 7/8 of an inch by 3/8 of an inch. That's going to complete today's review of part number FKW30000103.

This is the Fulton worm gear winch rated at 3,000 pounds. .

I purchased the Fulton KW3000 winch for my radio tower which cranks up. It replaced a gear driven model (K1550) which was difficult to crank. I ordered the KW3000 winch from etrailer and quickly got it within 4 days. There was excellent communication on order status and the product quality was exactly as I expected. I am using the winch now and it exceeded my expectations. A lot of value for the money. Good product and great customer service from etrailer. 24429

  • Hand Winch Recommendation to Lift 900 Pounds Vertically 20 Feet
  • The Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch, # DL10950, would be able to lift 900 pounds vertically but only a few feet. You do need to take into consideration that with each layer of wire rope on the drum, the capacity is diminished by 10 percent. The first layer on the drum can pull 1,500 pounds, but starting on the second layer it goes down to 1,350 pounds. The third layer would be 1,215 pounds. The fourth layer would be 1,094 pounds, and a 5th would be 985. After that, a 900 pound load...

  • What is the Fulton Worm Gear Winch Mounting Plate Bolt Pattern
  • I spoke to my contact at Fulton and he gave me the dimensions of the Fulton Worm Gear Winch # FKW30000103. Here are the dimensions: Overall height 8-5/8 inches Overall width 7-1/2 inches The front holes measure 2.5 inches from center to center in width, are 1-3/4 apart from each other from front to back and are 3/4 inches from the front of the mounting plate. The rear slot hole measures 3-1/2 inches from the center to horizontal slot holes and measures 1-1/4 inches from the center...

  • Can Fulton Worm Gear Winch be Used to Lift and Lower a Steel Tilt-Over Radio Tower
  • The Fulton winch # FKW30000103 is a worm gear winch. As such it has some characteristics that are unique to worm gear winches. Worm gear winches are brake winches by default. If you let go of the handle, load or no load, the load will not move. It cannot turn the screw on the worm gear. Only you turning the handle can move it. The other distinct characteristic is the speed of a worm gear winch. They are slow but strong. This particular winch has a 51 to 1 gear ratio. That means you have...

  • Trailer Winch Recommendations for Pulling a 2500 Pound Tractor on to a Trailer
  • The Hand winch you selected, Dutton-Lainson Brake Winch # DL15721, would be a great choice as long as your 2,500 lb tractor will always be a rolling load, and the angle of the ramps on the trailer will not be too steep. This winch can use the 20 foot strap, # DL24251, or the 25 foot cable, # DL24102, If you need to move the tractor when not rolling, flat tire or some other mishap, I would recommend using a 5,000 lb capacity winch. The winch is only available in an electric winch like...

  • Does a Fulton Brake Winch Have the Same Mounting Pattern as a Fulton Worm Gear Winch
  • For the Fulton Worm Gear Winch, # FKW30000103 the overall height 8-5/8 inches and the overall width is 7-1/2 inches. The front holes measure 2-1/2 inches from center to center in width, are 1-3/4 apart from each other from front to back and are 3/4 inches from the front of the mounting plate. The rear slot hole measures 3-1/2 inches from the center to horizontal slot holes and measures 1-1/4 inches from the center to the back of the mounting bracket. I have included a link to a...

  • Worm Gear Winch Recommendation for Slow, Controlled Feeding Out
  • I believe a worm gear winch would be your best option. They make the best hoist winches because you can control the feed in and out without worrying about the winch releasing and letting the load free wheel. Check out the Fulton Worm Gear Winch # FKW30000103. This is a worm gear winch with enough capacity that should work very well for you.

  • Need for a Secondary Brake Winch for Use with Fulton W3000 Worm Gear Winch # FKW30000103
  • The response you refer to advises use of a separate brake winch to secure the radio tower (after lifting with the worm gear winch) as a safety measure. You are correct that the worm gear winch will hold a static load since its design prevents the load from drawing the cable back out from the drum. However, for safety reasons we do not advise relying on this characteristic of a worm gear winch as the only means to stabilize a suspended load. For the safety of the suspended load and of...

  • Secondary Brake Winch For Worm Gear Winch Operation
  • A secondary brake winch that uses a planetary gear system would include a self-locking brake that would help secure a load and not rely solely on the worm gear winch. However, it is not suggested that a winch be used to hold any loads for extended periods of time. The best method would be to us cables or chains to secure the load once the winch has been used. There is not an attachment that can be used on the Fulton worm gear winch, part # FKW30000103, that can be used as a secondary brake....
