- Zinc plated yellow chromate TUFFPLATE finish has three times the corrosion resistance of standard zinc plated trivalent chrome process and 30 percent greater corrosion resistance when compared to powder coated finish. Results of lab test using 5 percent neutral salt spray confirms our TUFFPLATE finish provides in excess of 500 hours against First Red Rust and in excess of 100 hours of First White Corrosion.

- I went out to our warehouse and measured the mounting base for the Dutton-Lainson Trailer Winch, item # DL14881. The flat part of the base measures 8-3/8 inches long by 5 inches wide. The elongated bolt hole at one end of the winch is 1-7/8 inches long and the 4 elongated holes at the other end are 1 inch long. The two round holes are 3/8 inch diameter. - What is the Highest Capacity Two Speed Hand Winch that Can Use a Strap

The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch, # DL14881, can only accept a cable like # DL24104. The slightly lower capacity (3,200 pounds) Shelby winch, # 5481, can accept a strap, # DL24249. This is also a two speed winch with a hand brake.
A winch can actually handle more than what it is rated for if it is a rolling or floating load. Take a look at the FAQ articles I have linked for you to see more on the math involved with winches.

- On the Dutton-Lainson winch # DL14881, the maximum drum capacity for a cable is 3/8 inches in diameter and 37 feet long. I spoke with my contact at Dutton-Lainson and he said that you could use a synthetic cable as long as it is rated high enough.
The cable you use has to be rated 1-1/2 times higher than the winch capacity. In this case that is 5,250 pounds. If the cable has a hook at the end that hook must be rated 1-1/2 times greater than the cable. So that would be 7,875 pounds.
