Note: It is recommended that you remove the friction-style sway control before backing up to ease reversing and prevent damage to your system. When towing during slippery conditions such as wet, icy or snow-covered roads or on loose gravel, turn on/off handle counterclockwise until all tension is removed from unit. Failure to do so could prevent tow vehicle and trailer from turning properly.

Friction-style sway-control devices are designed to reduce trailer sway after it has already begun. As soon as your trailer begins to move out of line, the friction pads inside the unit touch one another and create just enough resistance to prevent any further side-to-side movement. To install this system, simply bolt the sway-control plate to the frame of your trailer and attach the other end to the included ball, which mounts on the head of your weight-distribution hitch or to the sway-control tab on your ball mount.

Today, we'll be reviewing part number UF35-946204. This is the Ultra-Fab Friction Sway Control for Weight Distribution Systems. You can attach this sway control device to your weight distribution system or your ball mount to help prevent any trailer sway. The friction-style control is going to provide resistance to correct sway and keep your trailer in line. In between this silver portion here are two friction pads. When you have the lever disengaged, you can see here that it's going to reduce or it's going to implement less resistance.

Thats actually going to be able to slide out and go back in as necessary. You can tighten or loosen those up. This does let you adjust the tension for the perfect amount to control resistance so you're going to have the tension adjustment screw that easily turns in 1/4-inch increments. It's going to help you fine tune the system. Then right up here, you're going to have the built in lever thats going to let you disengage the system to completely release the tension if needed. This will work with either weight distribution system or ball mounts that has sway control platforms.

This does not work with surge-type couplers. Installs and removes very quickly and easily. It's just going to attach to either side of the trailer tow and it's going to remove with just two clips. You do have to install this portion right here under the frame of your trailer. It's got six mount holes on it as well as six bolts and some washers. They're going to dig into the surface for a nice solid connection.

Then it's got the two oversize clips. This ball is going to mount to the head of the weight distribution system. It's going to fit right in this portion here. You're going to attach that using one of the clips in the spot. You just want to secure that in place and then back here, you're going to have this portion mounted to the frame of your trailer and this back socket is what's going to fit in that portion there and again, you're just going to install the pin on the side here in the openings and it's going to go right against the shank of the ball and it's going to hold that in place. It's a very simple installation, very easy to do.

You can actually use the mounting plate as a template to mark out the holes to drill. The mounting plate itself is going to give us a measurement from edge to edge of 6 inches by 3 inches. It's really not going to take up that much space on the frame of your trailer. Again, you're going to get all the mounting hardware that you need to get this installed. It does include the ball and the plate assembly, the sway control bar and again, all the necessary hardware and fasteners to get it installed. If you need a sway control tab, thats going to be sold separately. This is constructed of a powder coated steel for durability and corrosion resistance. Please keep in mind that it is recommended that you remove the friction-style sway control before backing up. Thats going to help ease reversing and prevent damage to your system. When you choose to tow during slippery conditions such as wet, icy or snow-covered roads or loose gravel, you want to be sure to turn the on and off handle counterclockwise until all tension is removed from the unit. Failure to do that could possibly prevent the tow vehicle and trailer from turning properly. The friction style sway control devices are designed to reduce trailer sway after it's already began. As soon as your trailer begins to move out of line, the friction pads on the inside of the unit, these are what I showed right at the beginning of the video. They're going to touch one another and create just enough resistance to prevent and further side to side movement. It's a great system to have in place. It's really going to help reduce the amount of sway that you experience. That's going to do it for today's review of part number Uf35-946204. This is the Ultra-Fab Friction Sway Control for Weight Distribution Systems. .

Expert Answers about Ultra-Fab Friction Sway Control for Weight Distribution Systems - UF35-946204Do you have a question about this Weight Distribution?

  • Trailer Ball Height to Increase Tongue Weight to Help with Sway Control on a Single Axle Fish House
  • You should have the hitch ball height set so that the trailer tows as level as possible behind your pickup. If there is a setting that goes between slightly higher than level and slightly lower than level, opt for the slightly lower setting, when the trailer is sitting on the trailer ball. An increase in tongue weight will most likely help with your sway situation. Adding weight in front of the trailer axles would be the best way to increase the tongue weight, just make sure you stay...

  • Is the Weld on Anti-Sway Ball Mount Tab Included with the Ultra-Fab Friction Sway Control Kit
  • Yes, I spoke with my contact at Ultra-Fab and he confirmed that the weld on sway control ball mount tab is included with the Ultra-Fab Friction Sway Control Kit, # UF35-946204. We also carry weld on sway control tabs separately, part # 3442, see link.

  • Can Friction Bar Sway Control be Used with a Valley Weight Distribution System
  • Friction sway bars like # UF35-946204 work independently of a weight distribution system. With that said as long as your Valley system has a small hole on the head for the small ball then you can use this sway bar. The sway bar type sway control are generally not restricted to any one system as long as that system is set up to accept the small ball. I included a picture pointing out the small hole on a head.

  • Comparing Bar-Style Friction Sway Control
  • The Curt friction sway control bar # 17200 is made overseas in China. It is comparable to the Pro Series system # 83660 and Ultra-Fab system # UF35-946204. The Reese system # RP26660 has higher quality materials inside and out and resists corrosion better so it is a better system. And it is made in the USA. But they all work in the same way. I have linked a video showing installation of the Pro Series system for you.

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2003 Chevy S-10
  • Since there are no adapters to go from a bumper mount ball you will need to install a frame mounted trailer hitch on your 2003 Chevy S-10 to be able to tow your trailer level. There are different configurations of the 2003 S-10 so I have linked the hitch main page. You will need to choose your vehicle style using the drop down menu at the top of the list on that page. Then you can choose a ball mount with the proper rise or drop needed to tow the trailer level. I have included a link...

  • Procedure for Adjusting Friction Sway Control Unit
  • Trailer configurations and loading, road and weather conditions, towing speed, tire condition and pressure, and center of gravity of trailer all affect towing and the degree of sway experienced. To get maximum benefits from the sway control, a series of road tests should be taken with the loaded trailer. On subsequent trips increase or decrease tension by turning the adjusting bolt in 1/4 turn increments in the direction shown on the label. It's very important that the tension be removed...
