Using fully inflated air bags when supporting a heavy load often creates a gap between your Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty's frame and your existing factory overload springs. Because your OEM overload springs can't engage, they don't support your load the way they are meant to.
The picture above shows the gaps that open between the factory bump stop and overload springs.
Standard OEM bump stops, such as the one in the picture above, aren't tall enough to bridge this gap. SuperSway-Stops solve this problem by replacing your factory stops and closing the space, creating a contact point between your Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty's frame and your factory spring system.
Made of microcellular polyurethane, these bump stops work progressively - the more you load on, the stiffer they become. SuperSway-Stops are also tough. Today, on this 2008 Ford F-350 were going to install part number sss-1. This is SuperSprings SuperSway-Stops, an anti-sway system for air spring suspension. The intent of this part is that it reduces body roll and decreases the sway by replacing the factory bump stops with the SuperSway-Stops. This is very easy to install. Basically, all we have to do is remove the factory bump stops. Of course, in this case we just sprayed them down with some lubricant.
Then, use a screw driver and pry them out.We will go ahead and take a look at one of the stops. We want to lay it on our table, you see we have the stop with the threaded rod installed already and then the flat washer and the nut. Okay, were going to take our first stop and install it where the original bump stop was. Well run the bolt through and put the flat washer on and then the nut and go ahead and tighten it down. There is a built-in knob on the stop to help keep it in alignment with the original factory mounting location.
Just line them up and we will go ahead and tighten them down. Okay, we got one done and now well go to the other side of the spring and repeat the same process.One thing you might want to try to install these is go ahead and take the weight off of the back end of the truck, just raise the bed a little bit to release some of the weight on suspension. That will give you some more working room. Our passenger side is done; well go ahead and repeat all the same process on the driver side. With that, that will finish it for our install of the SuperSprings SuperSway-Stops anti-sway system, part number sss-1..
