Factory spoilers are always a potential hurdle when you are searching for a trunk-mounted bike rack. The Thule Archway is designed to clear that hurdle with long, arcing body tubes and a patented FitDial mounting system that ensures easy and irritation-free installation on your specific vehicle.
FitDial System

The patented FitDial system lets you easily adjust the rack body. Simply press the levers on the base and move the rack so that the arrows line up with the correct number on the dial. These numbers are specified in the instructions included with the rack. Just find your vehicle, identify the correct number, and dial away.
Hold Fast Cradles with RDT

Unique to Thule trunk-mounted racks, the Archway also includes premium Hold Fast anti-sway cradles with Road Dampening Technology (RDT), designed for use with carbon-frame bikes. RDT is composed of 2 layers. The inner layers of the cradles are made of soft "fingers" that flex to absorb large shocks and jolts from the road. The second, upper layer is composed of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), a gel-like substance that gently but firmly cups your bike frame and enables the cradles to both absorb road shock and reduce vibration for a smoother ride. The cradles also include No-Sway Cages that provide a third contact point for the bike, preventing sway and bike-to-bike contact. The cages also have TPE bumpers that protect your bike frames from scratches.
Independently Adjustable Arms
The Archway has narrowly spaced arms that make loading and unloading bikes hassle free. These arms are independently adjustable with the built-in Cinch Levers. All you have to do is flip the lever up, rotate the arm to the desired position, then flip the lever down to lock the arm in place. This enables you to carry bikes with unique frames, and it helps to keep your bikes level on the rack. An adapter bar may be required, however, for some women's, children's, and alternative bike frames. These levers also allow you to fold down the arms when the rack is not in use and to fold the rack flat for storage when it's not mounted on your vehicle.
Anchor Straps
While the FitDial system ensures that the body of the rack is correctly spaced on your vehicle, it is the 6 nylon straps that keep the rack anchored in place. Padded hooks on these extra-long straps prevent scratches on your vehicle, and the straps tighten in place with easy-to-use, backpack-style cinches. Holders with hook-and-loop tabs are included to bind up the excess strap length when the rack is mounted. Simply wrap the holders around the straps to help protect your vehicle from flapping straps.
Security Cables

The Archway includes an integrated cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack. The lock includes a Thule One Key cylinder so that you can make all your Thule products keyed alike. A trunk strap also is included for passive security. This steel-reinforced cable threads around the rack and through the trunk, securing the rack to your vehicle when the trunk lid is closed and locked.
Molded Rubber Pads

The Archway includes oversize, molded rubber pads on the body to ensure that your vehicle is protected at all contact points with the rack. These pads prevent the rack from scratching and abrading your vehicle's paint.

Video Transcript for Thule Archway Trunk Mount Bike Rack Review
Today well be reviewing the Thule Archway 2 Bike Carrier with adjustable arms trunk mount bike rack, part number TH9009XT. Now the Archway is a trunk-mounted carrier which will transport up to two bikes. It has large arcing body tubes that are designed specifically to fit vehicles with factory spoilers. Now before we put our bike rack on the vehicle, its a good idea to go ahead and clean the surface of the vehicle where the bike rack will be mounted. This will help to prevent any damage to the painted surfaces that the bike rack sits on. Now weve already gone ahead and set up our bike rack to fit this particular vehicle.
Within the instructions for the Archway, you will find a fit guide. The fit guide indicates what setting youll put your bike rack in using the notches here on the side. This allows the arms to fold in and out depending on the vehicle. The bike rack has four rubber isolators that will protect the painted surfaces. Well place the bike rack on top of our rear deck lid, and well take the two top straps and hook them to the deck lid just behind the rear window.
With them hooked into place, well just kind of snug the straps down to help us hold the bike rack while we install the other straps. Now with the two top straps in, well move over here to our side and bottom straps. Now this is one strap, one side will connect to the side here by the taillight and the other side will connect to the bottom of the deck lid just above the rear bumper cover. Well then pull that snug and move over to the other side and repeat the same process. Now that we have all six attachment points in place, we can go ahead and tighten the straps down, securing the bike to the vehicle.
Now the black cable coming with the Archway is a security cable. This is a security nylon-coated cable. Well use it to hook around the Archway, or well take the other end and allow it to fall into the trunk here between the rear window and the deck lid. This gives a little added security holding the bike rack to the vehicle. Now with our bike rack secured to the vehicle, were ready to bring out the dual arms.
Each of the arms does move independently. Well just need to release the tension on this knob, where we can then unscrew it, and bring out the arm that holds the cradles. Once weve found a suitable location, well then tighten down the gray knob and latch it over, pulling the tension and securing the arm out. Well need to do this on both sides, making sure that both arms are parallel to each other. With both arms out, we can now go ahead and show you the cradles. They have two layers of cushioning to absorb road shock and minimize vibration. The anti-sway cradle here does have bumpers which will hold the bike here at the down tube to prevent sway and bike-to-bike contact. The reinforced cradle straps provide maximum strength and durability. Youll notice the cradles also twist back and forth on the arm as well as move forward and backward. Well now go ahead and undo our straps, put the bike into the cradles, and bring the straps around, securing the bike to the bike rack. Now its always a good idea to transport your bikes using the cradles closest to the vehicle and then working your way out. Now for demonstration purposes, well be loading our bike on the outermost cradles. With our bike secure, well now take the blue strap included with the bike rack and use it to further secure the bike to the bike rack. You can use it in various different ways, holding the wheels and tire as well as holding the bike to the bike rack. Now another feature of the Archway is its ability to lock a bike to the bike rack. It uses a cable lock found here in one of the arms. Well take the included lock core, and using the master key well slide it into the lock core where we can then slide it into the opening here in the arm, hold onto the lock core, and remove the master key. Well now use one of the two regular keys that come included to lock and unlock the lock, because thats what locks do. Well now bring the cable out of the arm, wrap it around the tube of our bike, place it back in the slot here where the lock core is, and using the key well lock it in place. Now our bike is locked to the bike rack, and included with the bike rack are these hook-and-loop straps. These can be used as well to help secure the excess nylon strap in place, giving you a nice clean look while youre driving down the road. Now with the bike loaded, well go ahead and take the Archway out on the road and see how it performs. That completes our demonstration of the Thule Archway 2 Bike Carrier, part number TH9009XT.

- Length of Integrated Cable Lock on the Thule Archway Trunk Mount Bike Rack
- The cable lock on the Archway, # TH9009XT, is indeed only long enough to reach around the nearest bike to it (the outside bike). My Thule contact stated that if carrying just one bike on the rack and you wanted to lock it, using the furthest out position is permissible and deemed perfectly safe.
However, if you wanted to you could use a separate cable lock, like # CAB-10, and leave the bike in the position closest to the vehicle.
