The Thule Raceway bike carrier is not your parents' 70s-era, trunk-mounted bike rack. It's a revolutionary, rear-mounted bike carrier that combines style and function to safely transport up to two bikes.
The Raceway uses Thule's patented FitDial system to ensure a proper fit on your Honda Civic and to make installation a snap. The included instructions indicate which FitDial number is right for your Honda Civic; simply lift the lever and adjust the arm until the arrow lines up with the right number.
Sure-Tight ratcheting cables are extremely sturdy and provide outstanding security for your bicycles. They require only four attachment points for safe use, unlike standard straps, which require six attachment points. Having fewer straps makes it easier for you to put the rack on and take it off as needed. The installation instructions indicate the best attachment points for your Honda Civic. Hook the cables around the trunk panel, then tighten them by turning one of the oversize ratcheting knobs. The locking knob keeps the cables in place and deters theft of your rack when your trunk is closed.
The rack's narrowly spaced arms allow you to load a variety of bike styles on the rack and reduce the likelihood that you will need a bike adapter bar. They make loading and unloading a breeze, and the bike-carrier arms fold down to take up less space for storage, or for those times when you're not carrying bikes but don't want to remove the carrier.
Each bike cradle holds the bike frame firmly with soft rubber straps. No-Sway Cage cradles also help to prevent bike-to-bike and bike-to-vehicle contact, deterring scratches and abrasions on your paint finishes.
The Thule Raceway boasts a locking cable that secures your bikes to your carrier. The locking cable and locking knob both use Thule's One Key System lock cylinders, so they lock with the same key. These cylinders can also be changed out to make all your Thule products keyed alike.

Today we are going to review part number TH9002 from Thule. This is their Raceway trunk mounted bicycle rack. This rack will actually carry three bicycles and this is also available in part number TH9001 as a two bike version. One quick note about this is that it is obvious that it is a radical departure from typical trunk mounted bicycle racks. In Thules previous ones you would use six straps but this bicycle rack actually uses only four straps. It has also got a nice aerodynamic shape to it which compliments a lot of todays aerodynamic cars. Lets cover the points about the bicycle rack. First off, it is very easy to install. In fact the rack comes with a fit guide to tell you exactly how to mount it on your vehicle because the arms on it have a dial gage to tell you exactly where to fit the arms before you even put it on the car. 00:45
The next thing we are going to go to is for the cradles of the bikes themselves. This is the same Thule cradle you have been used to. It has good padding and nice grooves in the padding for the cables and also for the straps to go over the top tube of your bicycle. You have got four points. You can criss cross them either way you want whichever works best for your bicycle. This does come standard with anti-sway cradles also. You will notice that the arms on here are a little more narrow than most. That way it fits most varieties of bicycles including a lot of kids bicycles that are out there. The arms, when you are not using it, easily fold down flat for storage too. In fact, when you get the unit it is going to come almost completely flat. Lets move on to the cables that attach the bicycle rack to the trunk. 01:23
First off, we are talking cables not straps. The cables wind up inside the cross beam itself. There is a little ratcheting device inside. That means no more straps flapping in the breeze while you have it on your vehicle. To adjust the cables there are knobs on the end of the bicycle rack that allow you to ratchet them tight. This also comes with a built in security cable for your bicycles. What is going to happen is the bike on the very end is going to get locked down and the other bikes behind it can not be removed because the first bike is locked into place. There is also a secondary lock for the cables themselves. It locks the ratcheting mechanism down and you can not take it off the car after that. So you have got security on the trunk and for the bikes themselves. This will show you a little more detail what the buttons do. To unlatch the cables you pull open this button here and you can pull them out. You will notice on the rack, this will be on the passenger side of the vehicle, there is a series of numbers from 1 to 11. This allows you to make the rack wider or smaller to fit around the trunk of the car. Pull back on these levers and that moves it any way you want. You use the arrow to line up with any number you need. Lets put this on the actual vehicle and load up a bike on it. The first step, do not pick up the rack, pick up a nice clean towel. You want to wipe down the area that the bicycle rack is going to make contact on. The best thing to do is to keep this area of the car clean and maybe a couple of layers of wax at this point also to protect it. Once you have that ready lets put the rack on. 02:55
A good way to start off is to put the bottom on first and then go up to the front and hang the rack by the top cables. Take up the slack with this knob right here on the end. The smaller does the inside. The next thing we want to do is open the trunk and we will slip our hooks on the bottom. Next we are going to tighten our lower cables and that is going to be the inside handle right here. Make sure you have it centered the way you want it on the vehicle. It might be a good idea to take both hands and see if you can get another click out of it. Once you have it tightened down you should be able to shake the car. Now that we have got it strapped down lets lock it into place and that locks it in. Now you can not undo the latches or anything to take this off the trunk of the vehicle. If you notice we have got the arms slanting down just a little. You probably want them on a horizontal plane. This big latch takes care of that. Pull up the latch and you can move it any way you want. Push it back down and it is locked into place. Make sure the anti-sway cradle is out of the way and we will put our bike into place. We will do one strap right here. This strap we will take off and put it on the other side and pull it over. You do not have to do it diagonal but it is more surface contact. Now we will put down our anti-sway cradle. Our bike is strapped down. Take the cable and go over the top of the bike and lock it. The bike and rack are definitely not going anywhere from here on out. You can see how this arches over right here, there is a pretty good space there. That means this bike rack will serve a variety of vehicles with a factory installed rear spoiler. Maybe a few after market spoilers too. Not the tall ones but the normal ones you see that come from the factory, the ones like that will fit just fine with this bicycle rack. With that, that finishes our review of part number TH9002 from Thule. Also available as a two bike version is part number TH9001. TH9003 is the platform style from Thule.

A beautifully engineered product. Very easy to install on my 2008 Toyota Prius. Rigid and very stable. No flapping straps to secure and keep checking during the trip. Very substantial padding to protect the car's finish and a broad footprint at the contact points to spread the load. eTrailer is a great company to work with. This is a great bike rack; it's solid, easy to put on (it probably would have helped for me to watch the video before ...but I did figure it out with the paper directions and learned a little lesson about “first things first”), and it doesn't hinder my view out the rear window of my 2010 Honda Element at all. Also, I was a little concerned that the rack might scratch my car but I can see now that isn't something I need to worry about. First of all, I would like to say that etrailer customer service is superb. I ordered my product very late at night, and the next morning I got an email saying it has been shipped. I even got it a day early. The Thule Raceway 2 bike carrier exceeded my expectations for a trunk-mounted bike rack. It came already assembled with easy to follow mounting instructions. It looks very sleek and modern, and is very steady once mounted to the car. Check out the pictures. With the integrated lock, I feel safe leaving it on the car when I'm not using it to hit the trails with my mountainbike. The rubber pads actually are very soft and do not damage the paint on the vehicle. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants a high quality trunk-mounted bike rack.25262

Sweet!!! Easy mounting on both my Infiniti M35 and Nissan Murano. Best for mounting bikes with horizontal top tube, since mounting arms move in tandem. Handled road bikes easily with quick mounting and dismounting. Worked well for my mountain bike; but do not recommend for ladies comfort bikes or other step-through bikes. 20262

This bicycle rack was very easy to install on my Chevy HHR. Although the instructions refered to appropriate numbered tips on the last page of the guide that was not there. I called customer service and was helped immediately. The only precaution was "do not use the rear wiper with the rack installed. I am very pleased. Overall a good car bike rack. Very sturdy once locked down on my 2010 Honda Accord and looks good. Nice locking features and well made rack for the most part. Bike installed with ease and was in place and secured in minutes. My only issue, and it has been mentioned a few times in this review section is the indentations left on my bumper after hauling one bike, one time!! Really ticked me off when I saw this. The issue is the bottom of the rack is not padded properly. Seems to be too hard of a material and the "so called" padding is concentrated more on the corners making most of the weight bearing at those 2 points which are resting on the bumper. I went out and bought a roll of rubberized utlity drawer liner material and left it as a roll and place it under the rack where it meets my bumper surface. After placing the roll on the bumber and then installing the rack where the bottom rest on this roll of rubber material I think it will prevent further damage to my car. Not sure who decided to use this faulty design when they created an otherwise great bike rack. Thule should come up with something that can be added to this product to pad the bottom better to protect the car bumper. Shouldn't have to create a working solution to prevent further car bumper damage after spending money on this product!!! 51642

It will not be able to attach to the convertible. The top straps need to be anchored in the top of a hatch, and the convertible model does not provide a suitable attachment point for the top straps.

Used strictly as prescribed by Thule, carrying two 15lb racing bikes, this carrier left two dents in the bumper of my brand new 3-series BMW. Not recommended.46045
Make sure that you are not exceeding the weight capacity of the carrier and that the heavier bike is loaded closer to the vehicle. Also make sure the arms of the carrier are level or slightly pointed up. This will help make sure the weight of the bikes is balanced evenly over the two halves of the carrier.

Everything about the product is top notch. Delivery was right on time, all the parts were there, it looks great on my car. Bikes can be locked to the rack, the bike wheels don't sway. It's designed so as to not scratch the car. It can be folded down when not in use. I wanted something that allows me to easily load and unload my bikes and this product provides that. Have not yet traveled with the rack or bikes on board, but the initial, trial installation was easy, and the instructions complete and easy to folllow. The box looked like it had been opended previously and then resealed with copper staples and tape. The box also arrived pretty beaten up with holes. That being said, the product appears to be complete and undamaged. I like to dual locks which both secure the bikes to the rack and the rack to the vehicle. I have a 2011 Lexus RX 350, and the instructions say to secure the lower cables to the vehicle shipping tie down brackets under the bumper, rather than under the bottom of the hatchback door. This means that the cables will come into direct contact with the bumper which could cause abrasion. I intend to add some neoprene pipe insulation to the cables to cushion this contact point.80066

I received the rack and mounted it on a 2010 Prius 5 door hatchback the day I received it with no problems at all. It was a very smart and solid fit! I left on a trip that lasted 33 days to South Carolina And Florida That covered 3,000 miles + with back and forth to Daytona Speed Weeks and Myrtle Beach that had the carrier and a Giant Rapid Bike on the back the whole time. This is one tremendous SOLID rack. Not one problem with it! The only negative was it cut the average Mpg down about two miles per gallon. Still averaged 49 + I then ordered an extra set of straps for a second beach bike, that I ride on the sand at low tide. Ran about 1500 miles with both bikes on Prius that way. Solid Solid Solid. This is a fantastic Carrier. The main reason I chose this bike carrier was all the information from the research and information on your web site. This was so easy to set up...for even someone who is often considered "technically challenged." The instructions were well organized and very easy to follow. The only "glitch" I encountered was when placing the bottom hooks on my 2008 Honda Accord, I had to release the trunk and raise it just a tad to engage them. But that was easily remedied and I was up and running in about 15 minutes. I wanted a rack that I could manage by myself and am so glad that I ordered this one. Thanks for a great product.56760

Yes a Prius presents a difficult job due to the long cable reach for the top hooks but I found with my 2008 Prius if you set the whole rack up on the back window you can then easily latch in the top hooks. Then lower the rack in place and it becomes an easy one person job. This is a great bike rack!

It was delivered earlier than expected. This morning I placed it on my Subaru Outback and it was very easy to do. I mounted my 2 bikes without any problem. I did placed the men's bike first, and the woman's bike second. It was very easy for the woman's bike as it was for the men's. I was worried that my woman's bike would be difficult but it wasn't. The padding is adequate and not as hard as other reviewers described. I drove to my destination - about 45 miles away- at a speed of 75 miles per hour and the bike rack did hold tight the whole time. I love the fact that has a key to lack the rack to the car and the bikes to the rack. I will definitely recommend it. Great job design team!53490

The rack is a little heavy. Maybe it has to be as it is solidly built. So far my big complaint is the lock to secure the rack to the car is a little tricky. It is sometimes hard to un-lock and feels as if I'm going to brake the key off inside the lock. It is not as friendly as the second lock that is used to secure the bike to the rack. I'm trying to decide if I should return it. Otherwise, the rack works really well.52906

just received the rack, easy to mount but instructions are lacking. They do not tell you where to place the rack (on the bumper or on the body) Im tried both places and decided the bumper was a better location due to the possibility of body damage. The top hooks needed to be slid into position from the outer edge of the door. The suggested setting for the rack open position was 9 for the GMC Acadia but I currently have it on 10, it brings the unit closer to the vehicle. The 11 setting was right on top of the rear windshield wiper. Beyond those couple of things installation was a breeze, took about 20 minutes from start to finish. Now that I know the procedure it will take much less time.52092

The bike rack is as I expected, Great! It looks and fits good on my 2009 Nissan Rogue. I was dissapointed that I wasn't informed that I needed a bike adapter for my wifes bike. I now need to wait an additional week and pay additional shipping to get what should have been pointed out to me at time of purchase. Recently bought the Thule Raceway 2 bike carrier to haul my mountain bike on my sedan (and stop stealing the wife's minivan!). As usual, it was delivered very quickly by eTrailer with great customer service. I spent my time hooking it up the first time, but still only took about 20 minutes...I can now get in on and off in just a few minutes easy. On the plus side, it seems very sturdy on my 2007 Lexus ES350 and I have had no issues carrying my mountain bike on highways, side streets, etc. The design is clean, sleek, and the product well constructed overall. The challenges / negatives with this rack: 1) tough to fit a full suspension MTB given the frame geometry (which I knew was a gamble on my part with this or likely any trunk rack)...but I was able to make it fit for my Specialized SJ FSR Comp 29er (without the claw bar, that makes it probably too low to the ground for my comfort). 2) one of the cables on the lower hook locks up periodically when retracting. 3) I do appear to have 2 little indentations in my bumper from where the lower part of the rack was resting, but I can live with it. Bottom line: this trunk rack is a lot easier to put on than most and does the job stylishly well. I'd recommend it. 49568

This is the best bike carrier I have ever owned. Fits vehicle great, high end manufacturing and engineering. Very easy to install and the instructions are very detailed (unlike most technical documentation these days). Etrailer was very organized and with personalized service; you never find this with companies now only worried about the mighty dollar. I was referred to etrailer.com after researching bike racks on Consumer Reports. etrailer carried the bike rack I was looking for when none of my local dealers had the 9001 model. I am so thrilled with the security of this model and how snuggly it fits both of our vehicles. The carrier does not scratch the cars at all as the supports are well coated with a rubber/silicone material. In addition to the superior product, the customer service was outstanding. The bike carrier was ordered on a Thursday morning, I recieved a confirmation email that my order had been shipped within a few hours (with shipping automatically upgraded), and the bike carrier was at my door step the following day. I don't remember the last time I purchased a product on-line and had it in my hands the very next day. Excellent bike rack! Very easy to setup and take down on a 2009 Subaru Forester. Very sturdy and protected bikes from sway as advertised. The rack has a decent lock which locks it to the car, but the lock which locks the bike to the rack is really weak. I purchased a separate lock to boost this weakness and recommend doing so to all purchasers. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this purchase.41825

I bought this for the ease of installing. I've seen other bike racks that are just a pain to get on the car, and the bikes on the rack and I wanted something easy. I drive a 2011 Kia Soul with a spoiler. Unfortunately, the top hooks and cable don't go under the spoiler. After an hour of pushing and prodding and researching online, I gave it one more try before sending it back. Luckily, I stumbled upon a solution. By pulling the plastic cable covering back, you're able to detach the hook from the cable, slide the cable under the spoiler then reassemble the two pieces on the other side of the spoiler. Once I figured that out, putting it on the car and the bikes on the rack was super easy. I'd definitely recommend this rack for Soul drivers and others. 34880

Solidly built. Some of the releases are a little tight, but it's brand new and will most likely "break in". I'm happy with the fit and the overall size. I would have liked more info about carrying ladies' bikes (this rating of 4 instead of 5). etrailer knows how to sell on the internet - great service and attention to customers.30438

A rather complex product and a bit tricky to set up. The set up instructions for my 2007 BMW 328xi were not quite correct in that the lower support rested on the indented trunk lip instead of the top surface of the bumper, when using the recommended position "6". This was actually better in that now the trunk opens with the carrier installed - no need to remove it. Two bikes were in loaded onto the carrier. The first was a "girl" bike with the low angled bar. Although the bike tilted at about 30 deg., it still loaded OK and the second "mens" bike also loaded without a problem. Enverything was finally secured with the "blue strap" along with a couple of bungie cords.23840

great bike rack and fairly easy to install the first time. We like the locking mechanism which is well worth the extra money. The bikes are on the rack really close and would have been nice to have just a few more inches in between the bikes.80974

Just purchased this trunk carrier. Service and delivery were outstanding. The on line video review of this product was very good and swayed me in my decision about which brand and bike carrier to purchase. I have not tranported the bikes on it yet but the quality and ease of mounting this carrier is just as expected. I would recommend spending the extra dollars for what is essentially a strapless type carrier. The locking features on this one is definitely a plus 46568

This product was easy to install and secured bike well over long distances. One complaint would be that it is only possible to lock a bike onto the front carrier, which is fine if you are carrying two bikes, but if there is only one it would be nice to be able to lock it onto the back one as well. Also would like to be able to lock the cables on both sides rather than just one. Directions well written and easy to follow. Overall a good product.41062

So far so good. The bike rack arrived on time and it was the correct one I ordered. It seems to fit my car rather well. My only worry is that over time it will scratch my paint but the suggestion that I clean the surface before attaching the rack should prevent that. Overall a great job. I would suggest your company to a friend. Thanks again.33929
