Today on our 2003 Ford F250 were going to install the Husky Truck Bed Accessory Tailgate part number HL15130. First, well need to go ahead and remove the manufacturers tailgate cables. To do this well remove the torque headed bolt and set the cables and hardware aside. Then we can go ahead and remove the tailgate by hinging the tailgate to a 45 degree angle and pulling up on the passengers side and sliding the drivers side toward the passengers side to remove the tailgate completely. Before we can install the cable onto the new tailgate well first need to remove the old hardware. To do this, well need to remove the hold down washer and spacer.
To remove the hold down washer well need to hold it in place using a pair of pliers or channel locks while I spin the bolt free. Now with the cable free, well go ahead and set the old hardware aside as well be using the new hardware provided with the new Husky Tailgate. With the passengers side completed, Ill go ahead and repeat the same process on the opposite side. To put the Husky Tailgate in place, well slide the drivers side of the tailgate over the hinge first and then line up the passengers side with the notch in the tailgate with the oblong hinge on the passengers side. Now we can go ahead and begin installing the cables onto the new tailgate.
Well first remove the bolt from the tailgate, slide it over the cable and then reinstall it and tighten it down. Now well go ahead and repeat the same process on the opposite side. Next well go ahead and remove the striker for the tailgate latch. To remove the striker well remove the torque-set bolt from the side of the bed rail. Now with the bolt removed, well need to remove the washer thats threaded on the torque-set bolt and then the bushing over the bolt.
Well install the new bushing provided with our installation kit reinstalling the hold down washer and then we can reinstall the torque-set striker bolt back into the vehicle. Well first start by reinstalling it in the location that was removed. Note, this bolt can be moved up, down, in or out as necessary to latch with the tailgate. Now with the new bushing installed well go ahead and tighten it down. Now with the bushings replaced well go ahead and close the tailgate and check for alignment.
Now with the tailgate closed we have a nice alignment with no excess play. Next well go ahead and check the locking mechanism for our new tailgate. Well take the key, turn it in the lock cylinder and check the handle. As you can see with the key locked and removed the handle cannot be opened. Now well go ahead and reinstall the key, unlock the tailgate and open it up. That will do it for the Husky Tailgate Assembly part number HL15130 on our 2003 Ford F250.
