Video Transcript for DeeZee Tailgate Assist Installation - 2003 Ford F-250

Today on our 2003 Ford F250 Super Duty we'll be installing the DeeZee Tail Gate Assist, part number DZ43203. Our first step will be opening the tail gate. Next we'll go ahead and prepare and install the nutsert. Using the nutsert and nutsert tool we'll need to set the depth. There'll be 3/4 of an inch from the face of the washer at the end of the nutsert tool. Now we've got our depth set we'll go ahead and install it into the pre-drilled hole in the tail gate near the hinge.

Once in position we'll go ahead and hold the bolt of the nutsert tool while using a wrench to spin the nut locking the nutsert into place. Once it's firmly tightened down we'll go ahead and back the nut off and remove the nutsert tool. Next we'll take the ball mount screw, install the thread lock provided onto the threads of the ball mount. Then we'll go ahead and install the ball mount and tighten it down into the nutsert. Next we'll need to remove the upper cable bolt.

Using a torques bit we'll go ahead and break free of the cable bolt and then remove the cable. We'll go ahead and sit the cable aside for re-installation later. Now we can go ahead and complete removing the cable bolt. With the cable bolt out we can now go ahead and install the ball mount plate. It will go over the hole that we just removed the cable bolt from, reinstalling the cable bolt, making sure that the ball mount plate stays in line with the cable bolt as we tighten it down.

Now well go ahead and reinstall the cable, fitting the bulb of the cable end over the cable bolt and then locking it back down into position. Now we're ready to go ahead and install the tail gate assist. Fitting the large end over the ball mount plate. Then extending it down to the lower end that'll go into the ball that we installed into the tail gate. Note, this application there's a rubber block that'll sit between the tail gate and the tail light assembly.

This block will interfere with the tail gate assist so it will need to be removed. To remove it we'll go ahead and take the two tail light assembly screws out and sit them aside. Then we'll remove the tail light assembly being careful not to break the alignment tabs underneath. Now we can access the two hold down nuts from the rubber block. We'll remove the nuts and then remove the block. Now we can go ahead and reinstall the tail light assembly. With that our install is complete, we'll go ahead and show you the operation of our new tail gate assist. After closing the tail gate we can simply pull up on the handle to release the tail gate and let it go as the tail gate assist will safely lower it. That does it for the DeeZee Tail Gate Assist, part number DZ43203, on our 2003 Ford F250.
