Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class III - Efficient - 2000 Mercury Sable

11" Wide x 7-1/4" tall x 7/8" deep, efficient heat exchanger will prolong the life of your transmission and improve its overall performance. Specifically designed for Mercury Sables with late-model, electronic overdrive transmissions.

  • Prolongs life of transmission
  • Improves overall performance
  • Prevents heat-related failures
  • Has furnace-brazed aluminum construction and 3/4" wide turbulator plates for more efficient cooling
  • Includes complete mounting kit, OEM spec hose with stainless steel clamps and Insta-dapt radiator adapter
  • Recommended for mid-size cars, trucks and SUVs

  • Inlets: 11/32" hose barb
  • Overall dimensions: 11" wide x 7-1/4" tall x 7/8" deep
  • Distance between inlets: 10-1/4"
  • Mounting dimensions: 6-1/8" tall by either 5-1/4" or 6-3/4" wide
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: The Derale Insta-dapt radiator adapter fits most Mercury Sables with 5/16" transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.

One of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. In addition to the increased surface area, this cooler also features turbulator technology, whereby fluids are agitated continuously, not only to facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure.

where is the cooler on a 1994 eagle vision

comment by: Irvin - 10/03/2014

Most passenger cars do not have factory installed transmission coolers, including the Vision in all likelihood. On that car you will find a radiator for cooling the engine block and an A/C compressor condensor. If the Vision did have one, it would be integrated into the radiator at one of th corners.

So far so good. Just installed the cooler a couple days ago getting ready for a move trailing a full load for 1000mi. Install guide and descriptions are very generic and therefore require a bit forethought and pre-work. Will see how the product will hold up in the long run. Shipping and transactions with etrailer have been excellent once again. 81679

The product has been working fine and just as expected. Have not had any issues since the big haul last year.Definitely recommend this product for anyone in need of.

The cooler is a great add-on to help guarantee the life of my transmission in my 2007 Chevy Trailblazer. The size was perfect for mounting just behind my grill and well in front of the stock radiator with barely any modification/trimming of the surrounding plastic. I have no real world temperatures but I am happy knowing the the temps in my transmission are at least a little bit cooler. The only mist-step is the included mounting pieces. While handy to get things in place after forgetting to pick-up bolts, washers and nuts, the plastic ties really didn't hold up well for the 2 weeks until I removed them. They also don't play well with the bendable mounting kit unless you have something to eat up the space when the ties are tightened as far as they can go. Again, it's minor and had I remembered to purchase the hardware I eventually used prior to the actual install, I probably wouldn't even be writing this. Also, the hose is certainly not long enough for my application. 141336

I received my cooler for my 1989 Olds 88 in record time (e.g. 2 days)! After reading the instructions, I saw that the manufacturer recommends the cooler be installed in series with the cooler integral to the cars radiator. This requied addtional hose (about 3ft.). The local auto parts store carried 5/16" hose (same hose ID but a different mfr than that supplied) but found the auto parts store hose next to impossilbe to place over the cooler header fitting. I was able to install a clamp before the tubing walked itself off. I would recommend taking the cooler to the parts store and fit it up with a hose that fits properly if you need to get extra for installation. I appreciated the video that was available on your website to familiarize myself with the installation before I attempted the project. I have yet to put it to the test with a trailer in tow. Seems to be quality product. The instructions were well written. Thanks! 23813

Trailer hitch / light kit / transmission cooler Shipping and product description were awesome! Price was better than i found anywhere else. The only problem i had was with my particular model of vehicle (2005 Saturn Vue). Fishing the carriage bolt would not have been possible with out removal of the rear bumper fascia ..... period. Also one of the side mounting bolts completely broke off when i was torquing it down to instruction spec. The instructions said 62 ft lbs. of torque, my wrench was set at exactly that and the bolt broke off right at the head. Im not upset sometimes you just get a bad bolt. Bottom line i would recommend etrailer to anyone. 5216

The cooler arrived intact on my doorstep with all the parts and pieces present, and it took about two hours to install the unit. I needed to fabricate some mounting brackets as I didn't want to use the plastic ties that go through the radiator. I have a 2011 Subaru Outback with a 3.6 motor and a 5 speed automatic. I frequently tow a boat and need to keep the tranny cool, specially during the summer months. The installation is pretty straight forward as per instructions that are included. Each vehicle will be a bit different but a home mechanic should be able to install this cooler fairly easily. 6830

Cooler came just in time. I installed it in my 2010 Subaru Forester so that I can safely pull my trailer without boiling my transmission. Glad to say I needed no special fittings to get the job done. The cooler looks well made and the size is just right...anything bigger would be a tough fit. 36817

Product was just as expcted but I did not care for the mounting so I made my own mount, two bars across the bracket that holds the hood release. This centered the unit near the bottom, for the connections the new hose reached a hose between two steel lines from the outlet of the factory cooler. I bought two 3/8 barbed couplings and 4 more hose clamps I cut the factory hose and series the unit to these hoses a few tyraps to stop chafing and i was done. 73520

Awesome! This is the 1st time that I've ever installed a Derale series 8000. Let me tell you, it's a great investment. Great, especially living in a sub tropical climate. It helped with my transmission tremendously in towing, & regular everyday use. A great buy & a great price. 141189

I wish I would have done this sooner. The cooler was way simpler to install than I ever thought it would be. The only difficult part was romoving the front clip of my 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche. I feel much more secure knowing my transmission is cooler while towing my camper. 137861

Very nice cooler. I really like it. I would recommend it, worked great on my 2003 Silverado. 84769

Did you use the line coming out of the upper part of the radiator, or the lower part? I have a 2003 Silverado 4.8L. I am glad to hear the installation was smooth for you.

comment by: Jerry T - 07/01/2013

The aftermarket Derale cooler needs to be after the factory cooler. The trans fluid needs to exit the transmission, pass through the OEM cooler built into the radiator, then into the Derale cooler, and finally back to the trans. The best thing to do is trace the lines back to the transmission and determine which line is the return line. I believe it is the lower line, but to be sure check the connections at the transmission. It will not hurt anything if it flows in the wrong order, but the OEM cooler can increase the temperature of the fluid if comes after the Derale cooler and essentially undo some of the cooling ability of the Derale.

  • Which Transmission Cooler is Recommended for a Nissan Frontier with 6,500 Pound Towing Capacity
  • The best way to decide which class cooler you need is to take a look at what you will be towing and where. If you will be towing a light load, less than 2,000 pounds, in flat driving conditions, your vehicle will do fine with a Class I. If you will be towing 6,000 pound load through some hills, I would use the Class III cooler. I prefer the 8000 and 9000 series. They are built a little heavier and are more resilient. The 7000 series are built a little lighter and can be damaged more...

  • In short, no; adding a transmission cooler and distributing trailer weight does not constitute a tow package. Transmission coolers do not add to the tow capacity of the vehicle. They can reduce wear and tear on transmissions used for towing by keeping heat levels down, but they do not make the transmission capable of pulling more weight. Tow packages often include things like a heavier suspension, integrated hitch, wiring, stronger transmission, stronger/braced frames, and the larger...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2011 Chevy Silverado with 5.3 Liter Engine
  • The optimum temperature for transmission fluid is between 160 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit (70 to 93 degrees Celsius) so at 240 (116 Celsius) you were definitely above that range. When towing up a high at low speeds using a low gear or towing mode, if available, would be the correct way to go about towing the trailer. I would recommend adding a transmission cooler to your 2010 Chevy Silverado. I would use a class III or higher cooler rated for at least 6,000 pounds. You can use # D13503...

  • Installing a Transmission Cooler In Line with Factory Transmission Cooler on a 2006 Dodge Caravan

The pump would still work as it normally would, there would just be a little more fluid in the system. There are essentially three places to mount a transmission cooler on your 2006 Dodge Caravan....

  • Recommendation for Complete Towing Setup on a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander 3.9 Liter
  • I did some research on your 2007 Chevrolet Uplander and found that the maximum recommended towing capacity for this vehicle is 3,500 pounds. If your trailer is 2,600 pounds empty, you would be limited to 900 pounds or less of cargo. If 900 pounds of cargo sounds about right, you will need to check your hitch capacities and make sure it is capable of towing 3,500 pounds. You may find that a weight distribution system is needed to safely tow the maximum capacity with your vehicle. You...
