Perhaps the simplest type of heat exchanger, the tube-fin effectively cools a variety of automotive systems. The concept is simple: Fluid cools as it travels through the core by transferring heat out to the fins. The fins then provide the surface area necessary for sufficient heat exchange to take place, allowing the heat pulled from the fluid to dissipate into the surrounding air. Quick, easy and effective.

Take it a step further with a fan-mounted unit and you can be sure that there will always be optimum airflow for your tube-fin cooler no matter where it is mounted or what sort of environment you are traveling through, making it perfect for those hot days spent sitting in traffic.

I use this unit as a pre-cooler for my race transmission so that not so much heat transfers to my radiator. It works better than expected, and my tranny and engine run cooler. I consider this a small investment to help protect the much greater investment in my car.

This fan/cooler assembly seems to be good; however, in order to truly check it I will have to put a temperature gauge on the trani and oil lines to measure pre-cooling vs. post-cooling.

The cost to install will be higher because you must buy hoses and fittings, and you may need to buy oil-filter adapters.

It is a good size for my 2010 Town & Country (I could not use the larger, oil-alone or trans-alone coolers for this reason); I installed it near the left front wheel (but I needed to make a brace out of 2x6 wood for this).

Product was an easy install. Will fit in tight space. On bad thing I can say is the top three fitting are to close together. They need to be off set. I still would recommend it to others.

  • Transmission Cooler for a 2002 Ford Super Duty with 7.3 Liter Turbo Diesel
The optimum transmission fluid temperature is between 160 and 200 degrees. Factory coolers are usually adequate at best. Since transmission fluid cannot be over-cooled adding a supplemental cooler is a good idea. I recommend going with a larger cooler for your truck since you are likely going to have the space for it and because a larger cooler will be more efficient. Cooler # D13504 is the most popular option. I also reocmmend fitting # D13025 to avoid having to cut and flare lines. I...

  • Troubleshooting a Derale Remote Transmission Cooler in a 2004 Dodge 2500/3500 With Exposed Wires
Derale manufacturers remote transmission coolers that do have two wires, however, the Derale Series 8000 Transmission Cooler # D13504 that you reference does not have any wires. If you do have an aftermarket remote transmission cooler - there are two types of hook-ups: coolers with a thermostat only and those with the option of either a thermostat or manual switch. The hook-up directions are as follows: In the Derale # D15830, the positive wire attaches to a 12 volt source such as a...

  • What Temperature Does the Fan Activate on the Derale Remote Transmission Cooler # D15830
On the Derale Transmission Cooler, part # D15830, the operation of the fan will depend on which way it is connected to your vehicle. You can wire the fan to be turned on manually by using a switch like the Derale Lighted On/Off Switch, # D16740. This way you can turn the fan on and off as needed. The other way is to use the Derale Remote Mounting Kit, part # D13023. This kit will use an in-line thermostat that will turn on the fan at 180 degrees and automatically turn off the fan at 165...

  • Power Steering Cooler Recommendation for an Off-road Rock Crawler
Typically, in automotive applications, the addition of a supplemental cooler will drop the fluid temperature around 10 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep in mind, this is with the cooler mounted directly behind a vehicle grille, receiving good airflow. For your situation, I would recommend a different product. The power steering cooler, # D13310, that you referenced will help, but the lack of airflow will probably not give you the results you are looking for. Instead, I recommend looking...
