Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class III - Efficient - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado

11" Wide x 8-3/4" tall x 7/8" deep, efficient heat exchanger will prolong the life of your transmission and improve its overall performance. Specifically designed for Chevrolet Silverados with late-model, electronic overdrive transmissions.

Features:

  • Prolongs life of transmission
  • Improves overall performance
  • Prevents heat-related failures
  • Has furnace-brazed aluminum construction and 3/4" wide turbulator plates for more efficient cooling
  • Includes complete mounting kit, OEM spec hose with stainless steel clamps and Insta-dapt radiator adapter
  • Recommended for full-size cars, trucks and SUVs

Specs:

  • Inlets: 11/32" hose barb
  • Overall dimensions: 11" wide x 8-3/4" tall x 7/8" deep
  • Distance between inlets: 10-1/4"
  • Mounting dimensions: 8" tall by either 5-1/4" or 6-3/4" wide
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: The Derale Insta-dapt radiator adapter fits most Chevrolet Silverados with 5/16" transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.

One of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. In addition to the increased surface area, this cooler also features turbulator technology, whereby fluids are agitated continuously, not only to facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure.

Demot-Derale-Transmission-Coolers-D13503 Today we have Derale Series 8000 Plate Fin Transmission Cooler Kit, part number D13503. The kit comes with a transmission cooler, a new line, a hose clamp kit for attaching the new lines, and a mounting kit for the transmission cooler itself. It comes with these long post zips that work as a zip tie to secure this in front of your AC condenser. Transmission coolers are universal fit items. They are not vehicle specific; they are designed to fit anywhere there is space. In order to make sure it will fit your vehicle you want to find a spot where you want to mount a transmission cooler, and measure it to make sure there is adequate room.

Typically you want it in front of the AC condenser or at least in between the AC condenser and the Radiator itself. To give you an idea of some measurements weve got about 11 in width, 9 in height, and the transmission cooler itself is about 1 thick. So make sure that you measure on your vehicle that you will have enough space to mount the transmission cooler. This cooler is covered by 1 year warranty from the manufacturer, and that does it for Derale Series 8000 Plate Fin Transmission Cooler Kit, part number D13503. .

I have a 2007 Silverado Classic w/ 4.8L and was somewhat nervous about buying the tranny cooler because I have never done this before, but honestly, it's pretty self-explanatory. I bought the 8000 series I also used GM adapter D13035 and it fit easily in the "out" position of the radiator. I placed the cooler in the very front of the oil cooler so that it would get 100% air. However, because I did not want the ties to go through the oil cooler and then the radiator, there is a bottom bracket that goes across <--------------> the oil cooler and I cut slits into it and made holding bracket for the trans. cooler so now it is about an inch in front of the oil cooler. This will allow maximum cooling because air can circulate all the way around the cooler. I'll post some pics when I can. -Art P.s. Had to buy about 3 more feet of hose, but not too bad of an install for someone who hasn't done this before.31532

This cooler was easy to install. I did not use the insta-dapter fitting that comes with the cooler. I used a 5/16 barbed coupler instead. One thing I should note is: the instructions state, "warm the vehicle and locate the cooler line and that one will be the return". In my case the radiator made the return line hotter after warming the vehicle for several minutes. I had factory Honda cooler instructions available at install. So return line location was a no brainer. Derale instructions had me second guessing my connections after install was compete. It's installed on a 2002 Honda Odyssey with a newly installed transmission at 70K. I had to remove the headlamp assembly in order to tip the condenser coil far enough to get my hand behind it.29861

Product install was fairly easy. Mine was on a 2009 Silverado 1500 and after a few minutes I figured out that removing the airbox top half made installing the retaining e-clip on the etra radiator fitting so much easier. Temp dropped about 35 degrees under normal driving conditions. Definitely well worth the money and effort. 57164

Installation was done by my local Subaru dealer and at a reasonable cost. I did not want to do it myself since it was a new 2013 Outback and the front bumper had to be removed. They made a couple of brackets and mounted it with bolts instead of using the included plastic ties. We will be towing a Camplite model CL13QBB with a dry weight of 2100 lbs with our 4 cylinder CVT transmission and read the reviews on this cooler and went with it. The fit was perfect. Thanks etrailer for your advise and guick shipping.54831

Fabulous. For a 2002 Odyssey don't remove factory fittings from RADIATOR. Remove hoses from steel tubes that come off the radiator and use a double male fitting from the hardware store for the return hose. To make life really easy, download a copy of Honda's installation for Factory Cooler to figure exactly where the return lines are. Rip off the bumper. Get er done. 1 hr. The whole car drives different. Smoother. Quieter. 39178

Placed it on the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder SL, 4x4, with tow package. This car already has an external cooler tucked in front of the front wheel well driver's side. I wanted to plus it up with the efficient placement of this trans cooler by placing in front of the radiator and connected with the other existing cooler. Had to take off the bumper to make it happen, but it looks great.79342

The transmission cooler worked but I had to modify it so it would fit. The quality of the cooler is questionable as well. Very thin material but I guess you get what you pay for. OEM cooler is $216 and this one was $50 so I kinda expected to have to modify or make it fit. Overall it works and I can drive my truck. So I'm happy but I wish it was closer to the manufacturer cooler66225

We have a few different lines from Derale. The Series 8000 Plate-Fin and Dyno-Cool lines are lower cost items. They will still perform, but there are options if you are looking for something a little more robust. The series 9000 Plate-Fin Coolers and Stacked-Plate coolers would probably be more along the lines of what you are looking for.

Hey Scott, Can you give me some advice on how you slaved it into the existing cooler? My guess would be that it gives you 2x the cooling?

comment by: Mark B. - 11/21/2012

452

Chances are it would not be twice the cooling, but certainly more than either cooler by itself. Instead of by passing the OEM cooler, simply run the return line from the factory cooler to the new Derale cooler, and then out of the Derale back to the transmission. That is how the cooler was set up on the TrailBlazer video.

Installed the product today. My installation is pretty unique on the Jeep Liberty CRD. This vehicle has a pusher fan in front of the stack of heat exchangers (Condenser/Trans cooler, intercooler, radiator), so the "zip tie" installation is not an option. Also, the stock trans cooler, which is the bottom 1/4 of the A/C condenser, has a different type of fitting on it. Product seems to work as intended. Hoses were a bit hard to get onto the barbs, even with a little transmission fluid as a lubricant.47086

Installed quickly (once I figured out which line was the input and outlet from the radiator - tip: open line, then have someone start the engine, as soon as you see fluid squirting, stop engine. You now know which line is input/output). Towed boat with it just fine, towing trailer 5K this summer. All the websites say "be sure to install transmission fluid cooler if you are going to tow with your Odyssey." I'm glad this was so straight forward, and a good price (just like the wiring kit I ALSO just got from you). Thank you!!! Sterling47022

Got the product arrived in good shape. It took me about 1 hr 45 min to install it on my 2006 Dakota. The fitting for the radator did not work. The stock fitting on the radator has ample tuding to cut and flare a little bit to do the same job. I am well pleased with the order. Thanks42680

Installed the transmission cooler into a 2005 Honda Pilot. The existing hose is not long enough so had to get a hose splice kit from local automotive supply - not a big deal, but would have been great to have this as part of the kit. The Pilot has two fans behind the radiator which is behind the A/C so I couldn't use the tie down straps, but the holes lined up well with the brace for the power steer cooler and I used stainless steel ties for the top. Overall the quality seems good and the product was delivered on time with no issues. 41261

Very easy to install providing you have an extra set of hands and are slightly mechanically inclined. The tube supplied was a little shorter than I would have liked it to be. An extra foot would have been ideal. I made it work, but I had to re-position the cooler when I realized I was going to be a few inches short. So far so good.34354

I installed the Derale D13503 in series with my existing factory installed auxillary cooler for added protection on my Ford Explorer Sport Trac. With the Sport Trac tranny having the reputation for overheating failure, I took the cooling up a notch! I tow a 7X14 enclosed v-nosed trailer, and now I am protected! It was a very easy install, and the included hardware made it pain-free :-)33187

Installed this on my wife's 04 Honda pilot. I wanted to have piece of mind knowing I have extra protection on those sometimes "questionable" Honda transmissions. I would recommend one of these to anyone with a Honda pilot even if you don't plan to tow. The only reason I didn't rate it higher is because the provided hose is not long enough for a pilot. Other than that it is a great product!!66362

I bought this intending to install it myself. After getting it, I decided to have a mechanic friend install it and I am glad I did. It took him a couple of hours which means it would have taken me a lot longer... He had to remove the front bumper and lost of other covers, etc. to get at the radiator and condensor. Once all that was removed, he said it was pretty straight forward. I think it is going to work well and I would recommend this product and etrailer to others.39555

This Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit, part # D13503, is 11 inches wide by 8-3/4 inches tall and is 7/8 of an inch in depth. If you find that you can fit a

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country
  • The best transmission cooler for your 2009 Chrysler Town and Country will be one that has the capacity to suit your application and fits in the space in the engine compartment. If you plan on doing a lot of towing, towing long distances, towing in hilly terrain, or frequently towing heavy loads, then I recommend the Derale Cooler, # D13503, that you have referenced. This is a class III cooler rated for up to 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight. Transmission fluid cannot be overcooled so going w

  • Does Adding Derale Transmission Cooler # D13503 Bypass the Factory Cooler on a 2001 Nissan Maxima
  • When adding an aftermarket transmission cooler like # D13503 to a vehicle, you do not bypass the factory cooler. The Derale cooler will be installed in line with the existing system so that it supplements the factory cooler. It accepts the same transmission fluid that is used in the transmission. You may or may not need to add more fluid. I have included a link to our FAQ article on Transmission Coolers and a link to a video showing a typical installation.

  • Transmission Cooler for 2002 Toyota Sequoia Towing a 4900lb Travel Trailer
  • A transmission cooler is very inexpensive insurance for your transmission, so I would highly recommend the Derale 8000 Series Transmission Cooler you referenced, part # D13503. Although your dry weight is 1600lbs less than the vehicle towing capacity, once you add gear and fill water or propane tanks, you will be climbing closer to that 6500lb figure. The cooler measures 11 inches x 8 inches, and is 7/8 of an inch thick. You will want to take a look in front of your radiator directly behin

  • Do I Need Bigger Trany Cooler for Towing My 2010 Jeep Liberty on a Trailer
  • As far as transmission coolers go, you cannot cool transmission fluid too much, so installing the largest cooler that space will allow is perfectly fine and will benefit your transmission the most. The trailer and Jeep you will be towing will probably add up to about 7,000 lbs so I would recommend the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit, item # D13614. This cooler measures 11 inches wide x 11-3/8 inches tall x 1-1/4 inches deep, so you will need to make sure there is room in

  • Will a Derale Transmission Cooler Kit D13503 Work on a 2006 Nissan Titan Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • The Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit, item # D13503, will provide extra cooling to help keep your transmission at normal temperatures when towing. Whether or not any cooler will provide enough cooling depends on many factors specifically related to your vehicle and trailer setup. I did a bit of checking on the 2006 Nissan Titan towing capacities and found that the 2006 Titan is rated for somewhere between 9,200 lbs and 9,500 lbs Gross trailer weight, properly loaded and re

  • Can the factory Transmission Cooler be Bypassed on a 1996 Ford Taurus with 3.8 Liter Engine
  • If you are sure that the problem is a leak in the radiator and not indicative of a larger, potentially worse problem, it is possible to use a transmission cooler to bypass the factory cooler, though it is not the recommended method. What you would need is the largest cooler that will fit in your engine compartment. You will want it as close to the airflow as possible. The out line from the transmission that is currently going to the factory cooler will instead need to go to the new cooler. T

  • Installation of a Derale Transmission Cooler on a 03 Ford Crown Victoria
  • Installation instructions for transmission coolers are pretty universal, but there are some variances between different vehicles. With that being said, I do not have specific installation instructions for a Derale Transmission Cooler # D13503 on a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria. I can offer you basic installation instructions that will apply towards your vehicle but will not be entirely specific. The first thing you will want to do is locate the return line of your factory transmission cooler. In o
