Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class III - Efficient - 2003 Dodge Caravan

11" Wide x 7-1/4" tall x 7/8" deep, efficient heat exchanger will prolong the life of your transmission and improve its overall performance. Specifically designed for Dodge Caravans with late-model, electronic overdrive transmissions.

  • Prolongs life of transmission
  • Improves overall performance
  • Prevents heat-related failures
  • Has furnace-brazed aluminum construction and 3/4" wide turbulator plates for more efficient cooling
  • Includes complete mounting kit, OEM spec hose with stainless steel clamps and Insta-dapt radiator adapter
  • Recommended for mid-size cars, trucks and SUVs

  • Inlets: 11/32" hose barb
  • Overall dimensions: 11" wide x 7-1/4" tall x 7/8" deep
  • Distance between inlets: 10-1/4"
  • Mounting dimensions: 6-1/8" tall by either 5-1/4" or 6-3/4" wide
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: The Derale Insta-dapt radiator adapter fits most Dodge Caravans with 5/16" transmission lines, but not all. In some cases, additional fittings or alteration of the OEM lines or hoses may be required for installation.

One of the more popular cooling systems available, the radiator-style, plate-and-fin heat exchanger provides increased surface area so that fluids can spread out along the finned chambers to cool faster. In addition to the increased surface area, this cooler also features turbulator technology, whereby fluids are agitated continuously, not only to facilitate heat transfer, but also to prevent any undesirable drop in pressure.

Today we are going to take a look at Derales Series 8000 Plate and Fin Transmission Cooler Kit, part number D13502. Included with the kit in additions to the transmission cooler, youll have your hose attachment kit and your mounting kit. What we are going to go over today is the size of this transmission cooler. You can also use the mounting kit with the zip strings that will attach to your vehicles pre-existing radiator. where is the cooler on a 1994 eagle vision

comment by: Irvin - 10/03/2014

Most passenger cars do not have factory installed transmission coolers, including the Vision in all likelihood. On that car you will find a radiator for cooling the engine block and an A/C compressor condensor. If the Vision did have one, it would be integrated into the radiator at one of th corners.

So far so good. Just installed the cooler a couple days ago getting ready for a move trailing a full load for 1000mi. Install guide and descriptions are very generic and therefore require a bit forethought and pre-work. Will see how the product will hold up in the long run. Shipping and transactions with etrailer have been excellent once again. 81679

The product has been working fine and just as expected. Have not had any issues since the big haul last year.Definitely recommend this product for anyone in need of.

The cooler is a great add-on to help guarantee the life of my transmission in my 2007 Chevy Trailblazer. The size was perfect for mounting just behind my grill and well in front of the stock radiator with barely any modification/trimming of the surrounding plastic. I have no real world temperatures but I am happy knowing the the temps in my transmission are at least a little bit cooler. The only mist-step is the included mounting pieces. While handy to get things in place after forgetting to pick-up bolts, washers and nuts, the plastic ties really didn't hold up well for the 2 weeks until I removed them. They also don't play well with the bendable mounting kit unless you have something to eat up the space when the ties are tightened as far as they can go. Again, it's minor and had I remembered to purchase the hardware I eventually used prior to the actual install, I probably wouldn't even be writing this. Also, the hose is certainly not long enough for my application. 141336

I received my cooler for my 1989 Olds 88 in record time (e.g. 2 days)! After reading the instructions, I saw that the manufacturer recommends the cooler be installed in series with the cooler integral to the cars radiator. This requied addtional hose (about 3ft.). The local auto parts store carried 5/16" hose (same hose ID but a different mfr than that supplied) but found the auto parts store hose next to impossilbe to place over the cooler header fitting. I was able to install a clamp before the tubing walked itself off. I would recommend taking the cooler to the parts store and fit it up with a hose that fits properly if you need to get extra for installation. I appreciated the video that was available on your website to familiarize myself with the installation before I attempted the project. I have yet to put it to the test with a trailer in tow. Seems to be quality product. The instructions were well written. Thanks! 23813

Trailer hitch / light kit / transmission cooler Shipping and product description were awesome! Price was better than i found anywhere else. The only problem i had was with my particular model of vehicle (2005 Saturn Vue). Fishing the carriage bolt would not have been possible with out removal of the rear bumper fascia ..... period. Also one of the side mounting bolts completely broke off when i was torquing it down to instruction spec. The instructions said 62 ft lbs. of torque, my wrench was set at exactly that and the bolt broke off right at the head. Im not upset sometimes you just get a bad bolt. Bottom line i would recommend etrailer to anyone. 5216

The cooler arrived intact on my doorstep with all the parts and pieces present, and it took about two hours to install the unit. I needed to fabricate some mounting brackets as I didn't want to use the plastic ties that go through the radiator. I have a 2011 Subaru Outback with a 3.6 motor and a 5 speed automatic. I frequently tow a boat and need to keep the tranny cool, specially during the summer months. The installation is pretty straight forward as per instructions that are included. Each vehicle will be a bit different but a home mechanic should be able to install this cooler fairly easily. 6830

Cooler came just in time. I installed it in my 2010 Subaru Forester so that I can safely pull my trailer without boiling my transmission. Glad to say I needed no special fittings to get the job done. The cooler looks well made and the size is just right...anything bigger would be a tough fit. 36817

Product was just as expcted but I did not care for the mounting so I made my own mount, two bars across the bracket that holds the hood release. This centered the unit near the bottom, for the connections the new hose reached a hose between two steel lines from the outlet of the factory cooler. I bought two 3/8 barbed couplings and 4 more hose clamps I cut the factory hose and series the unit to these hoses a few tyraps to stop chafing and i was done. 73520

Wow! Massive reduction in temperature with this bad boy. Driving the same exact route, my van trans temp would be in the 160-175 degree range. With this cooler, I am running at 120-130 degrees. It is quite obvious that it is doing its job. This is a good quality kit for an excellent price. 165593

Awesome! This is the 1st time that I've ever installed a Derale series 8000. Let me tell you, it's a great investment. Great, especially living in a sub tropical climate. It helped with my transmission tremendously in towing, & regular everyday use. A great buy & a great price. 141189

I wish I would have done this sooner. The cooler was way simpler to install than I ever thought it would be. The only difficult part was romoving the front clip of my 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche. I feel much more secure knowing my transmission is cooler while towing my camper. 137861

Did you use the line coming out of the upper part of the radiator, or the lower part? I have a 2003 Silverado 4.8L. I am glad to hear the installation was smooth for you.

comment by: Jerry T - 07/01/2013

The aftermarket Derale cooler needs to be after the factory cooler. The trans fluid needs to exit the transmission, pass through the OEM cooler built into the radiator, then into the Derale cooler, and finally back to the trans. The best thing to do is trace the lines back to the transmission and determine which line is the return line. I believe it is the lower line, but to be sure check the connections at the transmission. It will not hurt anything if it flows in the wrong order, but the OEM cooler can increase the temperature of the fluid if comes after the Derale cooler and essentially undo some of the cooling ability of the Derale.

Do you have a question about this Transmission Cooler?

  • Which Transmission Cooler is Recommended for a Nissan Frontier with 6,500 Pound Towing Capacity
  • The best way to decide which class cooler you need is to take a look at what you will be towing and where. If you will be towing a light load, less than 2,000 pounds, in flat driving conditions, your vehicle will do fine with a Class I. If you will be towing 6,000 pound load through some hills, I would use the Class III cooler. I prefer the 8000 and 9000 series. They are built a little heavier and are more resilient. The 7000 series are built a little lighter and can be damaged more...

  • The Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class III - Efficient, item # D13502, could be used to replace the original ATF cooler in the radiator on your 2005 Nissan Pathfinder LE 4.0 liter. I would recommend four things. First, measure to be sure that the cooler you select will fit in front of the radiator or air conditioning condenser on your vehicle. Second, select the largest capacity cooler that will fit in this area. The largest 8000 series transmission...

  • The Derale Transmission Cooler, item # D13502, will be the correct cooler for your 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4door 4x4. This cooler will install in front of the vehicles radiator and air conditioning condenser and is 11 inches Wide x 7-1/4 inches tall x 7/8 inches deep. You should measure to make sure that there is room to install the cooler in this position before you order, but there should not be a problem. You will need to determine how the cooler lines will splice into the transmission...

  • What Transmission Cooler Will Fit A 2011 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab 2.7L 4-Cylinder
  • You can install a transmission cooler on your 2007 Toyota Tacoma 2.7L 4-cylinder, even though the ones recommended are for the larger 4.0L engine. Transmission coolers are a universal fit product. So, if you are going to be towing with your 2011 Toyota Tacoma 2.7L 4-cylinder you will definitely want to install a transmission cooler. To determine what kind of transmission cooler you will need depends on how much weight you will be towing and where you will be towing. Also, you will also...

  • How to Install the Derale 8000 Series Transmission Cooler on a 2005 Honda Odyssey
  • The Derale Transmission coolers do not come with vehicle specific install instructions, but we have a video installation that should be very helpful. I have also attached a diagram detailing how the cooler is installed for you. Installation is fairly simple. You can find the transmission return line by running the vehicle briefly and checking for the cooler of the two transmission lines. The coolest line will be the return line that you need to attach to either port on the transmission...

  • Transmission Cooler # D13502 Routing Recommendation on a 2002 Chevy 2500HD
  • Yes, you can run this Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit, part # D13502, in series with the factory transmission cooler that is on your 2002 Chevy 2500HD. A lot of people do this and it should help bring your transmission fluid temperatures down. You will want to route the transmission fluid through the factory cooler first, and then through the # D13502, and finally back to your transmission. Routing the coolers in that order is crucial, if you were to run the #...

  • Transmission and Power Steering Cooler Options for a 2006 Honda Pilot Towing 1520 Pound Trailer
  • It is always recommended to follow the instructions of the manufacturer, in this case Honda, but adding a transmission cooler and power steering cooler is always a good idea. When towing, the added weight puts more stress and strain on the transmission and power steering components. Adding coolers will extend the life of these components by keeping them at their optimum operating temperature. For your 2006 Honda Pilot and the trailer and ATVs you plan to carry, I recommend going with...

  • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan
  • The effectiveness of a transmission cooler, like # D13502, depends on several factors. It depends on the size of the cooler, where it is mounted, what type of cooler, what is going to be towed, and the conditions/terrain you will be towing in. The bottom line is that if you are towing something small a short distance or something large a long distance, a cooler will help to keep transmission fluid cooler thus prolonging the life of the transmission on your 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. Transmission...

  • Transmission Cooler Installation Location on a 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500
  • Your 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 most likely has the GM 6L80 transmission. On this transmission, the bottom line on the transmission should be the return line (based on some research I did online for this transmission). You should be able to install the transmission cooler like you have described provided you have enough hose to reach. If you install it at the steel lines then you can use a hose fitting, # D13018 for the 4.3 liter or # D13035 for any of the larger motors, so you will...

  • Transmission Cooler for a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD Diesel with Allison Transmission
  • You would not want to replace the factory cooler with a supplemental cooler. Since your 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 has the Allison transmission (A1000 transmission) then I recommend the pan cooler, # AFE46-70072. The airflow under the truck will cool the fluid. There are aluminum fins inside the pan that transfer the heat to the outside fins. This, the extra 4 quart capacity, and the air flow under the truck will aid in cooling the fluid. There are currently no other cooler recommendations...

  • Which Transmission Cooler is Recommended for a 2005 Honda Pilot
  • Mounting a trans cooler in front of everything else, radiator and AC condenser, will yield the most cooling ability. The size of the heat exchanger is the factor that weighs most heavily on the cooling ability followed by location and construction/design. The best way to select a cooler is by considering the load you will be towing and the area you will be towing in. The cooler needed to aid in towing a single jet ski in a cool or moderate climate would not be nearly as big as the cooler...
