Rear view of Yakima Rack and Roll trailer with 78" crossbars

This high-performance, lightweight Rack and Roll trailer comes with a pair of adjustable, 78" Yakima crossbars for mounting boats, bikes and cargo boxes for covered storage - whatever you need. The round crossbars slide along tracks to adjust to your load, and they accept all Yakima roof-rack accessories - it's like having a tow-behind roof rack with all the capability and versatility of a standard Yakima rack. The difference here is that, with the trailer's conveniently low loading height, you don't have to lift your gear over your head to store it.

Rack and Roll adjustable shock absorbers

Rack and Roll holds up to 250 lbs and coddles your gear with fully independent, adjustable shock absorbers. The suspension has 4 inches of wheel travel for exceptional highway performance, cushioning your gear and keeping the trailer from going "airborne" over rough terrain.

The versatile trailer is easy to store when not in use, with a variety of options for keeping it tucked away in your garage. The tongue and wheels remove easily with stainless steel pins to make the trailer more compact. The trailer can be stored upright or hung on the garage wall by the crossbars. The rear section of the frame features two integrated rollers to make moving the trailer laterally effortless.

Standard 4-way light connector for Rack and Roll trailer

A standard, 4-way flat, black rubber connector is included for connecting your lights to the towing vehicle. The trailer connector has three male pins and one female pin. The vehicle's flat-4 connector should have one male pin (exposed ground) and three female connections (live circuits for stop, turn and running lights).

Rack and Roll trailer locking lever

The trailer frame includes a locking lever with a Same Key System Core that locks your hitch tongue to the trailer frame. SKS Cores can be swapped out to make all your Yakima locks keyed alike.

Rack and Roll carrying handle

An integrated carrying handle is mounted near the coupler to make it easier to place the trailer on the hitch ball. The handle also turns your trailer into a handcart that is easy to maneuver while it's unhitched from your vehicle.

The trailer can carry one boat up to 17' long or two 16'-long boats. Add the Rack and Roll Tongue Extension Kit (Y08109) - sold separately - to increase the capacity to one 22'-long boat or two 21'-long boats.

You can also store the trailer without removing the tongue and wheels by adding the Rack and Roll Kickstand (Y08115) - sold separately.

The trailer is constructed from anodized aluminum and features custom-cast, polished aluminum alloy wheels.

The trailer works with Class I, II and III hitches with a 2" ball installed. The ball should be mounted 22" from the ground for optimum performance. To ensure the best fit, use a ball mount with the proper drop or rise to modify the height of your receiver.

Most states require that you register your Rack and Roll trailer. All paperwork necessary for registering your trailer is included. Take the documents to your Department of Motor Vehicles and you will be issued a license plate.

Video Transcript for Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer Review

Today we are going to show you the Yakima Rack and Roll trailer with 70 inch crossbars, part number Y08107. The Yakima trailers are light weight trailers designed to be towed by a wide range of vehicles. The Yakima Rack and Roll trailers provide Yakima style cross bars. These cross bars will allow you to use virtually any roof rack accessory to be put on the trailer. You can use accessories from bike racks, to cargo boxes, and even ski and snowboard carriers. :31

The lightweight aluminum frame is sturdy and helps keep the trailer light, so it is easy to maneuver and tow with small vehicles. The Rack and Roll trailer uses a completely different suspension system t hat utilizes shocks and coil springs. The suspension system will help provide a nice smooth ride. The Yakima Rack and Roll trailer can be stored up on end and can be maneuvered with rollers so you can store it in small spaces. :58

The weight capacity of the 78 inch Rack and Roll Trailer is 250 pounds. You can upgrade the trailer with heavy duty shocks, part number Y08110. These will increase the trailers capacity to 300 pounds. Yakima strongly suggests upgrading to these shocks if you are planning on carrying more than 200 pounds. The trailer coupler is designed to use a standard 1-7/8ths inch hitch ball. The spread of the crossbars is adjustable and can be set anywhere from 4 to 48 inches. Yakima offers several optional accessories for the trailer. These items include an OE spare tire and wheel, a kickstand to support the tongue of the coupler, and a safety pole to help you see the trailer when towing behind large vehicles. The locking latch on the Rack and Roll trailers use the SKS locking cores, so the trailer can be matched to any locks on your Yakima accessories. The tongue of the trailer is collapsible to help it be more contactable for storage. 1:58

With the Yakima Rack and Roll trailer you can use accessories like ski racks. Or you can use other crossbar mounted accessories like cargo boxes. Due to the lightweight frame of the Rack and Roll trailer, even with the full load it is still light enough to move by hand. There you have it for the Yakima Rack and Roll trailer with 78 inch crossbars, part number Y08107.

What a cool trailer! I wasn't really expecting much when I first tried this trailer out. I was expecting such a light weight trailer to be bouncing and swinging all over the place... boy was I wrong. I took this guy out for 2 hour drive with two kayaks from St. Louis down to Lake Kinkaid on major highway, two lane country highway and country lanes. The Yakima handled them all like a champ. I also really liked using the trailer vs. lifting boats and hauling on top of a vehicle. I didn't notice any excess drag while driving or getting blown around by cross winds like you get with boats on top. The end of the day was great too, just to back up to the water and quickly slide the boats on to the trailer rather than using tired muscles to lift overhead. I didn't back the trailer into the water like a powerboat trailer... not sure if that would be ok for the lights or not? Benefits: 1. Long neck made for easy pulling, backing and easily fit my 14' kayak. 2. Independent suspension worked wonders for tracking straight and not swaying. 3. Lights are big and bright for night pulling such a small trailer (compared to power boat trailers). 4. Plenty of space to fit two kayaks flat. We could have easily fit two mountain bikes on there too if we wanted. 5. Handle at hitch makes for easy, one handed moving of the trailer even when loaded with the boats. 6. Hitch has a really smooth action and hooks up easily without fussing. I'm hoping that it keeps this up as use continues. Negatives: 1. Definitely invest in some kind of boat cradling system. I had my kayaks directly on the cross bars which never works out well. 2. The trailer did dissapear behind my Tacoma when no boats were on it. Just had to be a bit more careful when backing. 3. Be prepared to answer "What is that thing?" at the boat launch.50106

Fits two tandem kayaks and a Yakima cargo carrier - about 225 lbs of gear. Tracks well at highway speeds. No swaying at all. No squeeking and clanking that you typically hear with a utility trailer. Easy to assemble and store. Quite a nice trailer.19545

  • Parts Needed to Mount Kayaks on the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer # Y08107
  • On the Yakima Rack and Roll trailer, # Y08107, you will want to use a compatible kayak carrier unless you do not mind the kayaks sitting directly on the bars. I recommend a couple sets of foam blocks, # Y04053, because they are cost effective and they come with bow and stern tie downs to secure the kayaks to the trailer. If your kayaks are longer than 17 feet, you will want to add the tongue extension, # Y08109, so the kayaks do not make contact with the tow vehicle. I have included a couple

  • What are the Shipping Dimensions of the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailers
  • The Yakima Rack n Roll trailers, # Y08107 for 78 inch and # Y08106 for 66 inches, come in 4 boxes each. I went out to the warehouse to measure them. First, for the 78 inch # Y08107: Box 1 is 78-1/2 inches long by 14-1/4 inches wide by 10-1/2 inches tall Box 2 is 79-1/4 inches long by 8-3/4 inches wide by 5-1/4 inches tall Box 3 is 25 inches long by 25 inches wide by 7-1/2 inches tall Box 4 is 78-1/2 inches long by 3-1/4 inches wide by 2 inches tall For the 66 inch # Y08106: Box 1 is 6

  • Can Thule Square Load Bars be Used on Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, Part # Y08107
  • My contact at Yakima confirms that the Rack and Roll Trailer, part # Y08107, is compatible with Class I, II and III hitches and since late 2010 comes standard with a 2-inch coupler. Originally the trailer was supplied with a 1-7/8 coupler and a running production change was made to move to the 2-inch. Yakima will supply at no charge a bolt-on 2-inch coupler, part # Y08123, to customers that receive a 1-7/8 unit and need the larger size. However, recent production should have a 2-inch coupler.

  • What is the Difference Between the 78 and 66 Inch Yakima Rack n Roll Trailers
  • The 78 inch Yakima Rack n Roll trailer # Y08107 is actually wider overall than its 66 inch counterpart, # Y08106. So it is not just the crossbars. Because the price difference between the 2 is minimal it would be more beneficial to just go with the 78 inch model. We actually have couple of other options. I have included a link to all of the roof rack on wheels that we carry.

  • Finding a Ball Mount with the Right Rise to Tow a Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer Level
  • When towing any trailer, you will want to tow it level. To do this all you need is a ball mount that offers the correct rise or drop (rise in your case). To determine the correct amount of rise you will need, park the SX-4 on level ground and measure from the ground up to the TOP of the receiver opening. If that measurement is the 12 inches you mentioned then you will need a ball mount with a 10 inch rise. I have included a link to an FAQ article that explains how to measure for the correct

  • Trailer Jack Recommendations for a Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer
  • I think your best option would be to get a Fulton Snap-Ring Swivel Marine Jack # F1410050149. This should attach to your 2 inch by 2 inch trailer frame and provide you with a light weight jack for your Yakima Rack and Roll trailer. You should be careful not to exceed the weight capacity of your trailer, I am a little worried that you might be since you need a trailer jack on such a lightweight trailer.
