When towing vehicles with a tow bar, all 4 wheels are in contact with the ground. Certain vehicles - namely, those with front-wheel drive automatic transmissions - require either a transmission lube pump system or a driveshaft disconnect. Using a tow dolly eliminates the need for those by lifting your vehicle's front wheels off the road. In addition, by using the dolly you will not need tow bars and mounting brackets that clutter the front of your car.

- I called RoadMaster and got the following weight measurements. The weight of the dolly is 620 pounds. The shipping weight is 794 pounds. I have sent an update email to have this information corrected on our site.

- Yes, it is required that the steering wheel is locked when towing with the RoadMaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes, item # RM-2000-1. The instructions state that the steering wheel must be locked or otherwise secured when towing. Failure to lock the steering wheel will allow the towed vehicle to pivot on the bed, causing it to hit the fender and wheel assemblies of the dolly. Severe damage will occur if the steering wheel is not locked.
