Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The slipper spring is suspended at one end by a hanger that attaches to the eye. The other end slips into a hanger or, in the case of tandem-axle or triple-axle systems, into an equalizer. To determine the type of hangers or hanger kit you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring you have, as well as your axle diameter and capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications.

Please Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Suspension WIC2 Review

Today we will be looking at part number WIC2, the Two-Leaf Slipper Spring for 1,000-lb Axles. When ordering a new spring for your trailer, there are a few things you do need to know first. This spring measures 23-1/8 inches long by 1 inches wide. You will need to know the springs half-length which is measured from the center of the mounting eye to the center of the spring here at the leaf bolt. This spring has an 11-inch half-length. One more thing you will need to know is the spring height. To get that measurement, we will draw an imaginary line from the center of the eye mount across to the spring on the other side and we will measure from that line to the spring surface here at the leaf bolt.

And this spring has a 4-inch height. You will notice the 9/16 mounting location here with a nylon bushing. That nylon bushing will help to prevent metal on metal contact while the spring is on the trailer. And that does it for part number WIC2, the Two-Leaf Slipper Spring for 1,000-lb axles. .

Replacement springs My husband purchased an old rusty boat trailer to work on for a winter project. He began taking it apart and found out a section of each spring was rusted and broken. We didn't know if we could find replacement springs for such an old trailer. I went on line and one of the first results was etrailer.com. I immediately found exactly what I was looking for at a very reasonable price. The real surprise was when the order was delivered to our door less than 24 hrs. later! We now have the website bookmarked for future projects! Wife of busy retiree.3962

Ask the Experts about this Redline Trailer Suspension

  • What is the Length of Trailer Leaf Slipper Spring, # WIC2, Center of the Eye to End of the Spring
  • I went out to the warehouse and pulled 2 of Trailer Leaf Slipper Springs, # WIC2, to measure them. I measured 2 of them just to be certain. The length of the spring, from the center of the eye to the very end of the spring is 24-3/4 inches.

  • What parts are Needed To Replace the Suspension on a 4x8 Utility Trailer
  • I would be happy to explain all the components you will need to replace the suspension on the trailer and offer some installation tips along the way, free of charge. First, you will need to determine if the trailer uses slipper springs or double-eye springs. What ever the trailer is currently using, I would stick with the same type of spring. After determining the spring type, you will need to know the axle capacity. There is usually a sticker or plate on the trailer tongue that states the c

  • How to Order The Correct Slipper Springs For A 1970s Harding Boat Trailer
  • The springs you have on your boat trailer are called slipper springs. One end of the spring has an eye and the other is an arched, open end. The front eye of the spring is attached to a front hangar on the trailer and the slipper end is inserted into a rear hangar. To get the correct slipper spring for your trailer you will need to know the number of leaves, the width of the spring, the length of the spring, and the weight rating of the axle on your trailer. • Replacement Slipper Leaf Springs for a Shoreline Boat Trailer with 3,000 Pound Axle
  • In order to find the correct replacement slipper spring, you will need to measure the old spring when there is no weight on it. Jack up one side of the trailer and measure that spring. The measurements you need to find can be found in the diagram on the product page for any of the springs. With an axle capacity of 3,000 pounds, you would need two 1,500 pound springs like # WIF3. Make sure to check the measurements on the product page against your current spring. Springs should always be repla

  • Is there a Centering Stud on Both Sides of the Redline Slipper Spring # WIC2
  • I pulled a 2-Leaf Slipper Spring # WIC2 from our warehouse and found that it has a mounting stud on both sides of the slipper spring. Check out the video I attached that shows both sides of the spring.

  • Slipper Spring Recommendation for a 1983 Dilly Trailer
  • The 2-Leaf Slipper Spring # WIC2 that you referenced should work well for you. Springs will stretch over time so it may seem like the # WIC2 would be too short, but it is actually perfect since its length. Did you measure the length of the springs when they were on the trailer, or when the springs were removed?

  • Can Double Eye Springs be Replaced with Slipper Springs on a 1969 Shoreline Boat Trailer
  • In most cases switching from double eye to slipper spring requires new hangers and mounting hardware. This would require you to cut the old spring hangers off the trailer and mount the new hangers in the correct location for the slipper springs. Due to the extra welding involved, I suggest you stay with your original suspension set-up. To select the correct springs you need the weight capacity of each axle. Then you need to measure the dimension from center of eye to center of eye on your do
