Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The double-eye spring is suspended at the ends by hangers that attach to its eye or, in the case of tandem-axle or triple-axle systems, into hangers in the front and rear and an equalizer or equalizers in the center. To determine the type of hangers or hanger kit you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring you have, as well as your axle diameter and capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications.

Please Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Received parts this afternoon and they appear to be very good quality, replaced plastic with bronze bushings in all eyelets and already have one of four installed. 22798

I just wanted to let you know what a GREAT experience it has been ordering from your company. I have never had a company check up or keep me as informed on what was happening with my order. It is a great relief to know that there are still some companies that care and are not just interested in "a sale." I have attached some pictures of the old springs I took off and the new one's. The old ones were stretched flat with my dump trailer empty. When I put the new ones on it even raised the trailer up at least 4 inches. 29072

I just finished installing the leaf springs on my triple axel boat trailer and I'm very satisfied with the result. Shipping was quicker than anticipated… One suggestion is having a complete hardware kit that is galvanized for salt water boat trailers. i.e Shackles, equalizer, and bolts with nylon lock nuts. Thanks again for a Great Product!38691

The springs appear to be of excellent quality. I have installed them without a problem. I have not run the trailer yet but I am sure they will work fine. I am extremly happy with the service from etrailer, fast delivery, great follow up, and the best price on the internet. They have a customer for life.118481

The springs are exactly as described and arrived amazingly quick. The best part about the whole transaction is the pricing. Even with shipping added, I still saved 30% over buying locally. Great Value and E Trailer really seems concerned about customer service. 53580

Product was great. arrived early. But it was the wrong size, greatly in part, my fault. I measured the lenght of the leafs instead of the lenght from eye to eye center. Wish during the ordering processes it was explained on how to measure. I have looked at wheels and wheel bolt patern and the instructions for ordering the correct bolt patern there are great. I am sure its probably common knowledge with those that deal with leafs on a regular basis but for those of us that will order this only maybe once in a life time, measuring instructions would have been greatly appreciated. Loved how customer service was always in contact and still is after delivery.26134

The springs are great! Not only did they go on smoothly, but they got here promptly too! I was very much impressed by the customer care throughout my purchase. I actually received three emails the day I ordered, each from a different person in the chain and updating me on the progress towards shipment. Thanks for the prompt, courteous service.19569

  • Hanger Kit # APS4 Distance Recommendation for Use with Double Eye Spring # PR5
  • You have everything correct in your setup. You have all of the right parts in the right places and you have all the right measurements for everything. The 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring, part # PR5, is the right spring to use with the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs, part # APS4, that you have. The reason the shackle angles toward the the axle is because the spring length is 25-1/4 inches long and the correct distance between the hangers is 25-3/4 inches. Since the spring is 1

  • How Tight Should U-Bolt # 176500 Be on Trailer Suspension
  • When our installers install u-bolts as part of a suspension project, they torque them down to about 70 foot pounds per nut. When the u-bolt plate starts to flex a little, then you know they are tight enough. I have included a link to a video that should help.

  • When Replacing Trailer Leaf Springs Go by the Weight Capacity of the Axle
  • Yes, when replacing trailer springs, you will want to go by the listed axle capacity of the springs. It would be best to replace both springs at the same time. I also recommend that you check other suspension components before installing new springs. The suspension is only as strong as its weakest link. Even though the # PR5 spring is rated at 6,000 pound axles, 3,000 per spring, you will still need to stay within the capacity of your axle at 5,000 pounds and not overload the trailer. I have

  • Can a Trailer with 5,200 Pound Axles Use 5,800 Pound Double-Eye Leaf Springs
  • The failure of the leaf springs may be a result of another component in the system that has a problem and needs to be replaced. I recommend having a shop take a look at the suspension components to make sure everything is working correctly and nothing else needs to be replaced. Adding higher capacity springs will give you a stiffer ride, but if the trailer manufacturer determines it permissible considering the problems you have had in the past, you should be able to use the larger springs. • Trailer Spring Kit # 2-1020 Recommendation for an Old Boat Trailer Converted to a ATV Trailer
  • It sounds like you may have a vehicle leaf spring on your old boat trailer as we do not carry any leaf springs that are that length. The longest one we have is 27 inches long and is designed for 3,000 lb axles. That spring is the Redline Leaf Spring # PR427. The leaf spring that would closely match the axle capacity of your trailer would be the Redline Trailer Suspension # 1020. For a kit I would recommend a 3-Leaf, Double-Eye Spring Kit for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles # 2-1020. You are goin

  • Can a 3,200 Pound Capacity Trailer Change to a 5,000 Pound Capacity by Changing Axle and Springs
  • Adding a higher capacity set of springs does not change the capacity of the trailer. The axle capacity will remain at 3,200 pounds. Like you said, you would have to replace the axle and springs for a higher capacity. This will also necessitate different wheels and tires that are rated higher as well because the new axle will have different hubs and you will need wheels to match and tires for the higher capacity. Some of the suspension components will probably need to be replaced as needed. U

  • Replacing Fifth Wheel Springs with Higher Capacity
  • Your springs should be measured eye-to-eye with no load on them to get the most accurate measurement. Your springs are sitting flat either because they are worn or because they are over loaded. You may go up to the 6600 lb springs as long as the eye-to-eye length and the width will fit, but the higher capacity springs WILL NOT increase the weight capacity of your trailer. The weight capacity will still be limited to whatever the lowest rated component of the system is, whether it be the ax

  • Which Bronze Bushing Fits in Double-Eye Trailer Leaf Spring # PR5
  • To replace the bushings that are in double-eye spring # PR5 you will need one that is 1-3/4 inches long with a 9/16 inch inner diameter and 11/16 outer diameter like # D014-077-00 for 1. Or for a 4 pack use # K71-291-00.

  • Parts Needed to Increase the Capacity of a Boat Trailer
  • The only way to increase the capacity of a trailer is to get a higher capacity axle (and related suspension components, hubs, tires, and wheels). I would go with a 3500 pound axle since that is what the springs, when combined, are rated for and because it will cover the weight of the boat with ease. You may need to also beef up the trailer frame as well. The trailer manufacturer may be able to tell you if the frame is rated high enough as-is. For wheels and tires, I recommend an ST205/75-14 r

  • Determining the Correct Leaf Springs for a 1996 Interstate Trailer with 5200 lb Axles
  • The 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring, # PR5, will work with a hanger spacing of 29-3/4 inches. The typical hanger spacing for a 25-1/4 inch long double-eye leaf spring is 29-1/2 inches when using the 2-5/8 inch long shackle straps, # 115052. The extra 1/4 inch of the hanger spacing will not affect the performance. The best way to determine which leaf springs you need is to compare them to the original leaf springs. Overtime, leaf springs will flatten making them longer than their than their original

  • Are Trailer Brakes Required for a 4,500 Pound Trailer Towed by a 2001 Nissan Xterra
  • Since the trailer is going to weigh more than 50 percent of the vehicle weight, brakes are definitely a good idea. Also, they may be required by law in your state. Check the state laws to determine if you will need trailer brakes. I recommend them either way. If the trailer already has electric brakes you will just need to set up the 2001 Nissan Xterra with the proper trailer connector and brake controller. If the trailer does not have brakes, you will need to add some. I have included a link
