Double-Eye Spring

Part NumberABC

Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The double-eye spring is suspended at the ends by hangers that attach to its eye or, in the case of tandem-axle or triple-axle systems, into hangers in the front and rear and an equalizer or equalizers in the center. To determine the type of hangers or hanger kit you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring you have, as well as your axle diameter and capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications.

Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Suspension PR427 Review

Today we are going to be taking a look at part number PR424, the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,000-lb Axles. Before ordering a spring for your trailer, there are a few things you do need to know first. This spring measures 27 inches long by 1 3/4 inches wide. You do need to know the springs half-length which is measured from the center of the eye mount to the center of the spring here at the leaf bolt. This spring has a 13 1-2 inch half-length. One measurement you will need to do is to measure the spring height. To do that, you will draw an imaginary line from the center of the mounting eye to the center of the mounting eye.

And using that imaginary line you will measure from it to the spring surface. In this case, it is 2 3/4 inches. You will notice that these springs has two 9/16 mounting points with nylon bushings. These nylon bushings help to prevent metal on metal contact while the spring is installed on the trailer. It does have 4 leaves in it giving it a 1,500-lb load capacity. When you multiply that by two, you get your 3,000-lb total load capacity per axle. And that does it for part number PR427, the 4-Leaf Double-Eyed Spring for 3,000-lb axles.

I purchased the 3000# axle springs and all mounting hardware to replace the old ones on my 1963 travel trailer. My trailer no longer leans to the left and goes down the road better than new. I should have done it many year ago. I received my package on time and installation was easy and fit perfect. Thanks Bridget 116826

The price was right and shipping was fast, and the video on measuring made it easy to be sure I was ordering the right part for my trailer. What's not to like? The only mistake I made was in not ordering all the hardware (U-Bolt kit, shackle bolts, and shackle straps) all at the same time. Although the videos say these parts can be reused, mine were rusty enough that they were really hard to get apart and then back together, even though they were only a year old. 41932

Great product at a great price!! Make sure to measure your shackle bolts....mine were 1/2" and these come with 9/16" nylon bushings. I had to place a new order for replacement 1/2" bushings. Not a big deal for me, but could have been a problem in a time crunch... 162232

Do you have a question about this Trailer Suspension?

  • Double Eye Leaf Springs for Boat Trailer, Stretched Out
  • Before you can pick out a set of leaf springs for your boat you need to find out the weight rating of your trailer axle. Then you will need to purchase leaf springs that are each 1/2 of the axle rating. The # PR427 is rated for 1500 pounds so if your boat trailer axle is a 3000 pound axle then I would say that # PR427 is the correct leaf spring for your axle. Due to wear and different manufacturing tolerances the spring dimensions will be slightly different especially for length measurements....

The leaf spring is only 20-1/4 inches long. If you need a leaf spring that is 27 inches long and 1-3/4 inches wide, I recommend the Trailer Leaf Spring, part # PR427. With this spring, you would need the 2-1/2 inch Round U-Bolts, part # 175668, and...

  • Trailer Spring Kit # 2-1020 Recommendation for an Old Boat Trailer Converted to a ATV Trailer

The longest one we have is 27 inches long and is designed for 3,000 lb axles. That spring is the Redline Leaf Spring # PR427. The leaf spring that would closely match the axle capacity of your trailer would be the Redline Trailer Suspension # 1020. For a kit I would recommend a 3-Leaf, Double-Eye Spring Kit for 2,000-lb Trailer Axles # 2-1020. You...
