Today we are going to install a waterproof LED trailer light kit from Optronics, part number TLL16RK. These lights are also oversize. So, if your trailer is over 80 inches wide, they will still meet DOT specs. The first thing we are going to do is take off our nuts on the back side of the mounting studs. We will just loosen them up and take them off by hand. We will remove our ground wire off of our mounting stud and take our old license plate bracket off. We can pull these studs out of the way just so we do not lose them. And then we will clip the old wires as close as we can to the light so we have plenty of excess when we wire in the new ones. Again, if you find your wiring is in bad shape, you can use the included wiring that comes with the Optronics kit. But, our wires are pretty good so we are going to reuse them so we do not have to fish wire through the trailer frame again. We are going to strip about 1/4 of an inch to about 1/2 of an inch of insulation off the end of our wire. We will do that for both the brown and the yellow. 1:01
The brown wire carried our running light signal. The yellow wire carries our brake and turn signal. Again, since this is a water trailer, instead of using the quick splices or the wire nuts that come with the kit, we are going to supplement with 18 to 22 gage wire butt connectors. Take your crimper and lock it down. You can find these butt connectors on our website. They are available in a five pack and that part number is 05730-5. So we will take our yellow wire, twist together the leads and we will crimp our butt connector on again. We will give them a quick tug. Make sure they are on good and tight. And next we will take our heat shrink tubing. You can find heat shrink tubing at any hardware store or local auto parts store if you need it. We are just going to take our pieces of heat shrink, slip them overt the butt connectors, push them past and we will leave them there for now. We have our new light fixture. Our wire is already pre-stripped for us a little bit. I am going to cut them off and re-strip them to the size we need. 1:58
Next we are going to match the wires up on the back of our new taillight color for color. So we will go yellow to yellow and brown to brown. Fit it in, take your crimper and lock it down. Again give it a quick tug. Make sure we are ok. And then we will slip our heat shrink tubing over the butt connector. You can take a small torch or a lighter and heat the heat shrink tubing and it will contract around the wire and help us seal and protect our connection. Keep the heat moving so you do not burn the wire or the heat shrink tubing. We are also going to take some electrical tape and wrap it around our connections just for a little bit of extra security. Now we are going to take our wires and we are going to feed them into the clips on the back side of the light housing so we can kind of keep them bundled and out of the way. Now that we have our wires clipped in we are going to go ahead and feed some of our excess back into the trailer frame. Next we will take our carriage bolts and clip them into these slots. This is how we are going to attach to our trailer frame. 3:12
We have our mounting studs in and we are going to feed our excess ground wire back into the housing. Then we will take it and lay it down in these clips so it is out of the way and we can attach our license plate bracket. Now we will take our license plate bracket, slip it over our mounting studs. And then we will take our ground wire and fit it over the stud as well. Make sure the teeth are kind of facing outward so they can bite into your trailer frame. Now we will fit our studs through the mounting hole on our trailer frame. Take one of our lock washers, fit it over the stud and start threading the nut on. We will take our socket wrench and tighten the nuts down. We will take the last bit of our excess wire here and push it into the trailer frame so everything is neat and tidy. 4:10
Now we can reinstall our license plate on our new bracket. The procedure for the passenger side of the trailer is very much the same except we will not have to worry about the license plate bracket or the license plate light. Now that we have both lights installed, we are going to go ahead and test them out. Make sure all our functions are working properly and we will see how our new lights look. First we will test our running lights. They look good. We will check brake. OK, brakes light up fine. And we will check our blinkers. And that is how you install the Optronics over 80 inch LED trailer light kit, part number TLL16RK.

Lights are very bright, which what I was looking for. Instructions were good and installation was easy. I would have given the product an excellent rating if the kit would have included heat-shrinkable wire connectors instead of wire nuts. Wire nuts don't seem like a very good idea for a submersible wiring harness, so I soldered and used shrink wrap. I would recommend the kit and eTrailer to a friend. This is the third time I have purchased from eTrailer. Delivery and service has always been great! 78994

Directions were helpful, especially the color coding for both the lights and the wiring harness. I like that the harness was split between the left and right sides of the trailer, this makes it much easier to thread the wire in the proper route. Good Service at Etrailer as well. Received my lights quick as promised. Service was great, lights appear to be good quality, only time will tell the whole story. The 25' wiring harness is a little misleading, the length includes the tow vehicle end which is about 5 ' so the actual trailer end is only about 20' long but it is nice heavy wiring. Being a light kit for an over 80" trailer there was no wiring provision for the center rear light bar. Overall I'm satisfied with the purchase will buy from hear again.44584

Lights are nice. Very easy to install assuming you dont have a corrosion issue with existing lights. LED is significantly brighter than prior bulbs. 6410
