Video Transcript for Optronics Trailer Lights STL23AB Review

Today, we'll be reviewing part number STL23AB. This is the Micro-Flex Round Amber LED Trailer Light from Optronics. The amber 4 inch round trailer light is going to serve two functions on trailers less than 80 inches wide. It's going to serve as your parking light and your turn signal light. It's going to be a great replacement for incandescent lights. You don't have to worry about replacing any of your bulbs and you don't have to worry about burnt elements. It's going to feature a sealed waterproof housing and lens unit.

It's got a corrosion-resistant design, featuring 15 amber LED's and it will conveniently accept the industry standard 3-prong plug that's going to be sold separately. Also sold separately is the grommet. That way you, you can flush mount this unit. To go over the measurements real quick, it's going to give us a diameter measuring from edge to edge of 4 and 5/16 of an inch. It's going to give us a depth of 2 and 3/8 of an inch. It also features Micro-Flex technology that's going to increase light output while 90% less energy than incandescent lights.

It's going to feature a contemporary appearance while it maintains a traditional footprint. The LED light is going to draw 0.181 and 0.023 amps at 12.8 volts and it is Department of Transportation approved. It meets DOT specifications. We're going to go and hook it up to our external power source. That way, you can see what the light looks like with power running to it. With out overhead lights turned off, we're going to plug in the 3-prong plug.

Again, that is going to be sold separately. You can see there that it covers up all the connection points to keep any dirt and grime out of the connections. You can see here that it's going to send out a nice, consistent signal for the parking light. Then when we apply the turn signal, you can see how it brightens up quite a bit, sending out an even stronger signal. Again, that's going to contain 16 LED's. That's going to do it for our review of part number STL23AB.

This is the Micro-Flex Round Amber LED Trailer Light from Optronics. .

Review from a similar Optronics Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

I purchased this kit to replace the existing setup on my 4' x 8' utility trailer that had served me well for about 15 years. I was having problems with blown fuses when I turned the vehicle headlights on, and then when I used the turn signals as well. It was pretty clear that my problems were coming from the old light fixtures, but I decided to go ahead and replace the whole wiring harness at the same time since the extra expense was nearly insignificant. This kit came with almost everything needed to complete the job. I added some 1/4" corrugated wire wrap to help protect the wires from abrasion, and a few waterproof heat shrink tubes to seal the connections (2 for each light, & 1 for the ground wire). I chose to solder my connections and then seal them with the waterproof heat shrink tubes. There was enough room inside the light fixtures to enclose the connections and keep them out of the weather. The whole process of removing the old lights and wiring, and then installing the new components took about two hours of leisurely work in the back yard. It was an easy process, and the new lights are much brighter and more reliable now. No more blown fuses. They have the added advantage of drawing very few amps as compared to my old incandescent fixtures. I think it was well worth the little extra cash to invest in the LED lights. The kit included a flat 4 wiring harness to connect to the vehicle, which made my neighbor happy when I gave it to him - my truck was already wired for a 4 flat connection. In all, this was the most recent of my 3 or 4 purchases from etrailer.com, and I will certainly be back for more. The prices are good, shipping is fast, and there is wealth of instructional information to consume. 189802

Review from a similar Optronics Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

I installed these lights in a T@B teardrop camping trailer. The grommet would not work on this style trailer so I installed the lights using a silicone adhesive the same as the original Peterson lights. eTrailer delivered them in the same timely manner I have come to expect from them and the LEDs were easy to install. These lights are blindingly bright - simply amazing. I had rear lights with 1157 bulbs which I had upgraded to 2357 bulbs and equipped the tow vehicle with a powered converter but the light output was dim by today's standards. These lights are twice as bright on running lights and about 4 times brighter on the brake/turn signal elements. The thing we all fear when towing is being hit from behind by a driver that does not see our running, brake or turn signal lights in time. I know these lights will vastly improve the safety and visibility of our trailer. Thanks! 67735

These lights are of very good quality and are really bright. I use them on an early 70's Bronco for the front turn signals. Day or night, they are distinct and unique and best of all, . Definitely visibly on during the night AND the day (this can be seen in the photo taken on a Snow day, bright, while half way out of my garage). Great price for a great product 112392

Great service and quality product. Due to the -20 plus temps we will be experiencing these next few days and winter itself, I won't be able to install these until spring but I am quite impressed with eTrailer. This solves a myriad of problems regular bulbs can have while improving the ability of others to see our running lights. Bravo. Thanks for the followup too. dB Minneapolis MN 111940

Awesome. Fairly easy to replace the originals on our 2007 T@B and they work great. Much easier to see and they STAY LIT. Big plus. Used a Dremel type tool to open the access panel and they fit like a good leather glove. Highly recommend and thanks to Richard for recommending them to us.

These lights are fantastic. I discovered that mice had damaged the front marker lights on my equipment trailer so I decided to replace them with this style light. They are much brighter than my original equipment lights and are very easy to wire and install using the 2" rubber grommets. They improve the look and visability of my trailer so much that I plan on replacing the rest of my lights with this style as well. 78616

Comments

After a year these lights are still fantastic, just as bright as the day I installed them. No sign of aging or weathering despite this trailer being stored outside.

I was very much surprised that the hardware was stainless steel, which is great for salt water trailer usage. I was disappointed that the wiring harness was light weight wire, I would guess 20 gauge, but it should be sufficient for led lights. All in all I would purchase this again. 96616

Comments

I received an e-mail requesting how I rate these trailer lights after one year of use. I have had them on my trailer over one year. These lights go under salt water each time I put my boat in the water - they are working just fine after more than a year. I would purchase these lights again.

Review from a similar Optronics Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

Sirs: I have a ten-foot enclosed motorcycle trailer that I purchased new in 2010. Recently, I noticed the existing taillights were working -- but were far from being safe. I assumed that I had a wiring problem and that I might have to take the trailer somewhere and have the wiring harness checked and/or replaced. Fortunately, I looked at several of the videos on your web site and decided that I would replace the existing taillights before committing to a re-wire job. I ordered a pair of STL22RB 12 diode trailer lights and a pair of a70gb gaskets. These items arrived in the mail yesterday, and I installed them this morning. Problem solved! The new LED lights work quite well, and the installation took less than five minutes. I have some light bulbs in the house that take longer to replace than did these taillights. Thanks, guys, the videos that I looked at on the etrailer.com web site convinced me that I could do the job simply, quickly, and safely. Piece of cake!!! Now, I may change out all the old marker lights with new LED lights. Thanks, again. Lou C. 249893

Great set of lights and they shipped within two hours of ordering. Look great on my flatbed dodge. Only problem was, I was not aware I needed a resistor to use them on a vehicle but it's no big deal. I will be ordering a pair of resistors and more trailer lights soon based on customer service alone. LED reverse lights were great too 114476

Comments

Installed the resistors and no more hyper-flash. The lights look and work well. I have ordered other products from etrailer and the customer service is great and I have recommended them to my friends and family.

Review from a similar Optronics Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

Just installed this on an old Tee Nee trailer. Instead of using the enclosed clips to attach the new wires to the outside of the frame, I used the old wires to fish the new wires through the frame. All the pieces seem sturdily built, and the main connector is of tough Neoprene, connects solidly. My only quibbles are minor, regarding the instructions and accessory hardware. The instructions refer to "butt connectors", but the hardware package did not include any butt connectors. Instead, there were three parallel splice connectors, of the type with a "guillotine" that you press onto both wires by clamping the whole thing with a pair of pliers. Four were needed, not three, so I had to fish one out of my basement. These connectors are not weatherproof, even though they live outside the trailer frame, so I covered them with several strips of duct tape to keep out the rain. Will see whether that works. The installed product works fine, and I look forward to never having a light bulb burn out. 24624

Love these LED trailer lights and now Love Etrailer!! Did a quick Google, found these guys, they had what I was looking for and at a great price. Their shipping was FAST, and I really liked the e-mails letting me know every little thing about my order and when it will arrive. Installed them the same day I got them. Installation was very easy and the lights were VERY bright. We had to bring the 3k pound trailer home today in 6" of snow. I felt great knowing the people behind me knew I was hitting the break, because you can see these break lights from a mile away!! Thanks Etrailer!! 5804

These lights were an exact replacement for the original incandescent lights in my car trailer. They are very bright, and traffic behind me actually pays attention when I turn my signal on now. Very prompt shipping too, as I had them in 3 days after I ordered them. 157319

Definitely a major upgrade from the single bulbs that finally went out on my old trailer. Simple as can be when it comes to install them. I did have to run additional ground wires to get to get lights to work when the parking lights are on. Could have been due to the fact my trailer is a tilt trailer? No big deal just a heads up if anyone else is having the same problem. Pictures shows them with parking lights on and brake lights. They're bright that's for sure! 243852

These bright and waterproof little lights are wonderful. They draw only .5 watts (ie so little they will probably not make a difference to any auto, RV etc lighting circuit). I used them to enhance the dim stop and turn signal on my RV. The plastic lens were fogged and the voltage kind of low (a 40' RV has a lot of voltage drops) but these little LEDs shine bright and were a LOT cheaper than trying to replace the existing fixtures. I just wired them in parallel with the existing light bulb. So now I have a bright stop light and a built-in spare (the existing bulb could burn out and the LED will keep working). The photo shows how I did it 227001

Replaced my old incandescent lights with these on my boat trailer. By comparison these LEDs are much more directional, and appear to be about the same in brightness except when viewed from directly behind at eye level. Then the running lights are only slightly brighter. But where they really shine is on the stop lights or turn signals. Then they become much brighter and much more responsive. As far as looks, I typically do not like the "dot matrix" look of most LED lights these days on cars or trailers. These are definitely not the worst and actually look ok. I am hoping these will last longer than my older sealed incandescent lights. Dunking these in water repeatedly tends to shorten their lifespan. 81463

The website was very easy to use and the products were well displayed and well described. Ordering was easy and the follow up by the folks at etrailer was impressive. The items arrived quickly with standard shipping and upon inspection appeared to be good quality and exactly what I had in mind. I'm installing these on a homebuilt trailer that is a conversion of a snowmobile trailer. The trailer is homely enough that I'm not sure if pictures of it would be good advertising for etrailer. Also, the amount of helpful information on the website means that I will come to etrailer first when I need anything for towing. Thanks for a wonderful online shopping experience. 35477

I decided to rewire a small utility trailer that I use for trips around town. The lights I had previously used incandescent bulbs and suffered from a few issues, namely they were too dim, and they were way too susceptible to corrosion. They intermittently worked and got to the point they were shorting out and blowing my trailer fuses. These LED lights are simply wonderful. Bright and clear and with long life associated with LEDs. I also have a premium small cargo trailer that came stock with LED lighting, and there is just no comparison. Your trailer will be very visible using this product. Once you use LED lighting, you'll never use anything else! 60884

The lights on our 6 year old SnowBear ATV/utility trailer have been problematic for the past year or so and finally the tail light portion of the lamps just stopped working. I bought the Optronics TLL9RK LED kit to replace the whole system, but ended up reusing the original wire runs, soldering them to the kit lights' pig tails. I also made use of the license plate bracket to replace the broken original. Less than a 20 minute job & everything works and looks great. Even the unreplaced original incandescent side marker lights were working again. I'll keep the unused wiring & connectors as spares in case I need them in the future. 42775

I upgraded the lights on my kayak trailer from incandescent to LED after getting tired of replacing burned out bulbs on the old lights. The new STL22RB LED tail-stop-turn lights are great. I also installed the red and amber side marker lights MCL11RKB and MC11AKB and the are great too! The new tail lights are very bright when viewed from directly behind the vehicle (see picture), but they are less bright when viewed from an angle...I think that is normal with all LED lights. Everything was easy to install on my trailer with the BK70BB brackets and wiring harnesses. I will definitely recommend the lights and etrailer to my friends! 223993

All went together fast and easy. But I would mentioned that I am replacing an existing lamp and harness. Two issues was my son's trailer in a box was bolted together in several well painted major parts. Well painted caused ground plane issues. I just wanted to do over the installation to ensure success. I ran dedicated ground wires and grounded same to trailer in multiple places. I think that is the major reason for success. Also the harness adaptor did not match my son's Ford F150. Oddly enough it was difficult to fined an adaptor that somewhat fit properly. Which I cut into place for the second time. 31883

This is a great replacement light. Much brighter than stock bulb. My trailer is a Prestige with Peterson lights, and these plugged right into the stock 3 prong plug. I replaced one and left one factory and took some pics, but they just didn't turn out. An interesting fact is when I put the emergency flashers on, the LED light lit "quicker" than the bulb. While only 12 LEDs, the Microflex really reflects well; I like these better than my friends with many more LEDs; in "running" mode, you can see the individual LEDs, but when you hit the brake, it looks like one solid red taillight. I'd buy again, no doubt. 15758

This comes with a wishbone harness, which is what I needed. The flat 4 plug is a little odd. It has a shield over the ground pin, which is nice, but does not fit quite so easily on the existing one on my truck. It does come with a matching vehicle side plug, but I was not about to go swapping out the one on the truck. The lights themselves are sturdy and bright. There was one set (of four) of mounting nuts and washers missing from the box, but I suspect that was just a fluke at the factory. It is not as if I don't have enough spares laying around. 172381

I ordered it on sunday night. I had 2 personal emails telling me my order was ready and being shipped. ON SUNDAY NIGHT!!! I had my order by Wednesday with a follow up email telling me my package was waiting for me at home. My only complaint is why other online stores can provide this service. etrailer, I will be ordering again. Thank You 104387

Review from a similar Optronics Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

This was a replacement of the 14 year old utility trailer lighting system. These new lights were good quality and included stainless hardware. It only took me a couple hours to rewire. The new light mounting holes matched exactly the old lights. Problem with lights are usually related to grounding issues. Because the new lights had a grounding wire I went ahead and did a wired ground. The result was the lights are very bright and you can really see the turn signals and brakes. I am 100% pleased. 58293

Review from a similar Optronics Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

Bought these in addition to the oval microflex for my wide-trailer markers. My light bar is riveted to the trailer; instead of replacing the light bar, I was able to use a screwdriver and some hand pressure to "pop" the old lights out and replace with these (these lights have a little tab on each end. My light bar is stainless, so it was flexible and rebounded...it worked great. These lights fit the same 2 prong socket as my Prestige Trailer factory Peterson lights, so no re-wiring. I'd buy again. 15759

I attached lights to my 34 Ford Coupe replica Streetrod golf cart. The original lights weren't bright enough. The Led lights fro etrailer were great and really bright. Wonderful service on all end talking on the phone and shipping items. Thanks for the friendly service and a great product. 57140

Review from a similar Optronics Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

I used these to replace the peterson taillights on my 1979 GMC dump truck. They were a direct replacement and fit perfectly. Was able to use the existing wiring and rubber boot for the direct install. Too easy! I've had comments from the people at the quarry and on the job that the visibility of my taillights was surprisingly bright even when they get a film of dirt on them. I had problems with the peterson lights burning out and so far, 3 months, these are still working perfectly. 60650

Review from a similar Optronics Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

We were concerned that the parts would be the same as our trailer lights, as these were for an RV not a trailer; pictures appeared to be the same but without a specific part number it was difficult to be absolutely certain. No worry, they were exactly as required. Order placed on Sunday and order prepared for shipment on Sunday! Extraordinary customer service! We will buy from E-Trailer the next time we have a need for parts for our RV. 222171

Review from a similar Optronics Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

I've had my 5' x 10' tilt bed trailer for almost eleven years ago. I mainly use it to haul riding mowers, and going to the dump. Replaced the lights about five years ago with a cheapo set of lights. They never were very bright, and only worked sporadically. These are a quality upgrade that should last a long time. Installation was straight forward and painless. And they're MUCH brighter than either of the previous incandescent sets. 65946

This has to be the best service I have ever received by an on-line business. They were fast, courteous, and very helpful. I would do business with them again in a heartbeat. I wish there was something else I could buy because I enjoy spending money with a business who truly SERVES you. Nowadays that is very rare. By the way, the product is great and I would recommend the Optronics to anyone looking to upgrade their trailer lights. 51188

Product Support Bob G. was extremely heplful with my request for a mounting bracket for a 61/2" oval tailight. Even though there is not one manufactured to meet my needs, Bob was helpful with suggestions and even provided drawings specs. My order for the lights and accessories was received in a timely manner and aspects of the order were followed up on. I will use etrailer in the future and reccomend them to all my friends. 4363

Review from a similar Optronics Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

I was searching for replacement boat trailer LED lights and the E Trailer web site had exactly what I needed. The site layout made it easy to find and order, without having to become a member, which numerous other sites requested. I just wanted to purchase and recieve a product without the hassles. The product was exactly what I ordered and was at my door 2 days following. Thank you for making this a positive experience. 37344

Review from a similar Optronics Miro-Flex in Trailer Lights

I had previously ordered some of these in amber for a project and loved them so I came back for more. They are easy to wire in and install and look great. About the only thing I wish were different is the back side where the wires come out has a plastic protrusion about 3/8" by 1/2", which I understand, but requires drilling out the area for the mount. Wish that were flat but still, I'd buy more in a heartbeat. 131800

I ordered the LED trailer kit along with the receiver 2 inch rubber receiver covers. The lights fit the mounting holes that I already have for the previous lights. That was perfect. The extra length of wiring helped to make the trailer wiring more resistant to the weather. Those two items made aqll the difference for me. I iwll order from etrailer again and will tell my family and friends abot your web site. 37786
