Video Transcript for Custer Trailer Lights TLK01 Review

Today, were going to review Part Number TLK01. This is a Custer Incandescent Trailer Tail Light Kit for your under 80-inch wide trailers. This part does include the two red stop, turn tail lights. It does have the red side markers on the side. Now, these are stud mounted which means they will mount on to the studs and actually ground to the studs, so theres no white ground wire.It does also come with the corrosion-resistant plastic license plate bracket which youll notice on the driver side light. There is a light underneath here.

If these are mounted on to the studs, as you can see, license plate would go right under there. It also comes with a 25-foot trailer wiring harness that you can wire your trailer with.It does have a separate white ground wire that would need to be grounded. The other harness is a four-foot long vehicle-end connector. If you do not have a four-way on your tow vehicle, you can connect this to it using the included Kwik-Connectors. It also comes with the nuts to ground when you ground it with the studs, it comes with the nuts used with the tail lights.

It also comes with the amber side markers, with the one power wire and these will also ground through the, when its mounted to the trailer through the stud. Now, the way I also wanted to show you is the way this would hook up, there are no wires coming out of it like in a lot of tail lights. They have actually holes on it and at the very top, it might be hard to see here, but it is stamped stop turn green; and tail, brown. This is your passenger side lights, so when you go to wire them, you would just strip your wire and it would just, the very top holes, youll just push the wire in. It would lock into place and give you the connection. If you do need to remove them, theres a small hole underneath that you could just use like a paperclip, push it in and the wire would come right out. This is the driver side.

Now, I do have it hooked up to power. I do want to give you an idea of how bright the light is. Right now, Im going to turn or just show you what it is, theres your tail light with the lights on. Now, were going to turn off the overhead lights to give you an idea. Theres your tail light, if I turn on the break that would be your break and your turn.

Thats how bright it would be.Now, well go ahead and turn the overhead lights back on and basically, just to show you, I do have the wires connector that I was explaining and Im just taking the white and grounding it to the stud to give you the, thats how youll ground it. That should do it for the review on Part Number TLK01. These are the Custer Incandescent Trailer Tail Light Kit for the under 80-inch wide trailers.

  • Brake Lights Turn Off when I Step On the Brakes After Wiring New Trailer Lights
  • Yes, it seems like you have a ground problem on the trailer. I would start by checking the ground wire at the trailer coupler and making sure it is connected to a solid clean paint free spot on the coupler of frame. Then I would check the tail light assemblies. Tail lights are usually grounded through their connection to the trailer frame. If you have a plastic license plate bracket on the left side this could be the culprit. You should also check the brackets that hold the lights. If they a

  • Wiring Single Wire Clearance Lights on an Enclosed Trailer
  • You will need to use a circuit tester, item # 3808 if needed, to test the wires exiting the trailer to figure out the wiring configuration. You will probably find that you have tail light power on one of the green wires and no power on any of the other wires. In this case you would wire the two green wires to the power wire coming from the clearance light. You would then need to wire the two white wires coming from the trailer to the ground for the clearance light. Wiring this way allows the

  • Running Light Fuse Blowing with Trailer Connecter to 2003 GMC Sierra and Tail Light Kit # TLK01
  • It sounds like there is a short that is causing an overload situation that is in turn causing the fuse to blow. The problem could be in a number of places, but I would start by checking the grounds on the trailer and on the truck. The ground for the trailer side plug should be attached to a clean, corrosion and paint free bare metal surface on the trailer frame. The lights ground through the mounting studs. They, too should be free of corrosion, dirt, and attached to a bare metal surface. If

  • The trailer itself will have a ground wire from the trailer connector that needs to be attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface on the trailer frame. The trailer itself will ground through the coupler and trailer ball.

  • How to Ground a Mounting Stud Tail Light Mounted to Wood and How to Wire a Third Brake Light
  • There is a way to ground the lights from the Incandescent Trailer Tail Light Kit, part # TLK01, if you were not going to mount them to a metal surface. You would want to use a ring terminal connector on the post that carries the ground circuit and then run a wire from there to a good, clean ground and the lights should operate. Once this is done it would not matter what surface you mounted these lights to. You could wire your 6 inch oval LED brake light to a new 4-way flat harness. To get

  • It sounds like there is a short between the yellow (left turn) and green (right turn) wires on the trailer light circuit that is causing both blinkers to blink when either blinker is being used. I would check the wiring and look for any exposed wire or obvious shorts on the trailer wiring that may be causing this problem. If you still can not find the problem I would use Circuit Tester, part # 3808, and first test the 4-way that is on your vehicle for intermittent voltage on the left turn sig

  • I would begin by checking the grounds on your trailer. You will want to make sure each light is grounded to a clean metal surface. The item you selected, Custer Trailer Light, part # TLK01, includes a plastic license plate bracket. Sometimes this can cause a bad ground connection for the tail lights. I would also check to make sure the vehicle side connector is grounded and to make sure the auxiliary fuse on your vehicle is not blown. There is also the possibility that the vehicle wiring conn

If the ground is achieved through the metal base of the light, there may be corrosion or rust that has formed which is causing a bad ground. I would also recommend checking the power supply to the lights, you can do so with a circuit tester like part # 3808. You will want to inspect the wiring making sure there is not a short or exp

  • Driver Side LED Trailer Side Marker Light Does Not Light Up
  • It looks like you have the Sealed, Miro Flex, Mini Thin Line LED, # AL191AB. What I think is happening is that there is a bad ground connection. The bracket you are using, # A91BB, has a ground transfer that moves the ground from the terminal in the back to the mounting hole. Check to make sure that the bracket is secured to a bare metal surface that is free of dirt and corrosion. You may try grounding the terminal using a wire instead of through the mounting hardware to get a better connecti

  • If the wiring leading to the clearance lights in the trailer light kit, # TLK01, have power but the lights do not light up, there could be a couple of problems. First, you are going to want to check the ground connection. These lights ground through a mounting stud. Make sure that they are attached to a bare metal surface that is not painted and that there is no dirt or corrosion. If the issue is not a bad ground, you can check the lights off of the trailer by attaching them to a battery, but

If you have power running into the light but it still does not illuminate then the issue the ground circuit. If you do not have power on this circuit you will need to trace this circuit up to the four-way of your trailer and beyond until you find where the short circuit is. If you want to test them again, run a wire from the mounting studs on the lights to a good ground on the truck, usually the frame, or the ground post on the truck connector (white wire).
