Easy Swivel Trailer Jack Installation

Video Transcript for Easy Swivel Trailer Jack Installation

Today we are going to install Dutton-Lainsons pull pin easy swivel trailer jack part number DL22800. On a typical application we are going to simply clamp this jack on to the side of the frame. It would be a pretty easy install. However, on this trailer we have a different type of frame on it where it is a little bit angled. Going towards the back of our trailer our frame is thicker, going toward the coupler it is a little bit thinner. I am going to do a couple of modifications to the installation of this. It will look pretty good when we are done with it. The original jack was bolted on the location right here which is pretty close to the coupler and it was not working all that great. We are going to replace it with a heavier jack but, we come to find out when we install it in its original spot it is going to take up a lot of room no matter how you situate it, it will take up a lot of room even when you bolt it in place. 00:46

I thought we would move it down here but, still the wheel takes up a lot of space if you make a sharp left hand turn you could possibly put this into the bumper so that is not a good idea either. Plus we do not want to cover up the information sticker on the side of the frame. So we decided to come up with a different idea and actually install it on the inside of the frame. A couple benefits of that is one, it is not sticking out all the time so it takes less room. The jack is a little bit closer to the center line too so it gives it a little bit better leverage on the outside of the frame. What is going to happen is on the side closest to the coupler we are going to clamp it in place in a conventional way. On the back side we are going to clamp it in place too but we run out of room with the frame being in the way so we are going to drill a hole through the frame and come up with a spacer to take up the room in between. 01:34

We will clamp the edge closest to the coupler first. Take the other side of the clamp and put a lock washer and nut on there and just run it down and do the same thing on the bottom half. Put that through. Now remember that the frame gets a little bit narrow at the front so we are going to use that to our advantage. We are going to snug this plate down as close as possible and then we are just going to push it back. Make sure the bolts are completely straight then we will put the bracket on the other side. Then we will take our bracket here and use the second hole down. Line up the bracket to find the center. We are going to punch and drill out our hole and then we can start installing our hardware. You see this gap we have when we drilled the hole through the frame and when we tighten it down we do not want to crush the frame so we are going to use a spacer to go in between here. You can do that with over sized nuts and some washers possibly. In this case we actually found a piece of tube stock to fit perfect inside there. Then we just install the rest of our hardware. Now we just tighten it down. When you tighten these down tighten them evenly on both sides. Now the jack is installed. Lets make it a little nicer. What we are going to do is take a sawzall and cut off our excess threads that we really do not need. Our jack is installed. Lets cover the operation of it. Here we have the jack in the down position. Just pull this handle and that is in its traveling position so we will use it to pick up the trailer. We are going to put it down. When it is up in the air like this you might want to put your foot down to help keep it from spinning. Then we just crank it up and you can roll the trailer around as you need to. This jack also has a 1,500 pound tongue weight capacity. There you have it for the pull pin easy swivel trailer jack, part number DL22800.

Installs easily, folds up easily and quickly. Wheel rolls freely. I have not towed the trailer since installation to see how well it travels yet.16551
