Features:

  • Application: most 3,500-lb axles, including Dexter
  • Works with electric and hydraulic brakes
  • Drum dimensions: 10"diameter x 2-1/4" wide
  • Bolt pattern: 5 on 4-1/2"
  • Includes bearings, races, seal, grease cap, wheel bolts and lug nuts
    • Bearings:
      • Inner bearing: L68149
      • Outer bearing: L44649

      • Inner diameter: 1.719"
    • Grease cap: 1.986"
  • Capacity: 1,750 lbs

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for TruRyde Electric Brake Assembly Installation

Today were going to install part number TRBK10E01 from TruRyde. This is their Electric Trailer Brake for Left Hand Side. Were going to start off our install with the idler hub already removed from the trailer. This trailer previously did not have brakes so were going to add brakes to the trailer. Now if we add brakes to this trailer axle due to the fact that it has a brake flange already installed located here. The brake is very to install, Ill just make sure the mag is pointing at the bottom.

Now the studs are already built into the backing plate so all weve got to do is add lock washers and nuts. Lock washers will be 5-8 and the nuts will be part number 6-17. With our brake assembly installed on the axle now well go ahead and install the hub. Were using part number 84546UC3-EZ. First off, well apply a little bit of grease to the inside of the races and the bearings.

Then well go ahead and assemble the back bearing and seal. Then well do the same thing for the front bearing and race and apply a little bit of grease. Well go ahead and install the hub. Well add the washer and a nut and tighten it down as needed to make sure we have enough free play in the hub. Then well use a grease gun to fill up our hub.

When we fill up a hub it will also pack the bearings at the same time because the grease has to go through the bearings to get through the hub to the other side. With the hub packed, well go ahead and double check the adjustment for the hub then well go ahead and install the locking cage for the nut. Then well go ahead and install the dust cover. With our hub fully installed well go back to the backing plate and what well do is go ahead and adjust it now. Well take the adjuster and tighten up the drum until it stops moving then well back it off 10 clicks.

We should have a slight dragging on the hub when were done. Now we can go ahead and start hooking for wires for the backing plate. Now we ran the length of the wire from one side to the other and then up to the top. Were using part number 12-2-1. Now on the hub were working on well go ahead and cut the wire in half and make our connections. When we connect our wires from the backing plate to our new wire in a gray cable, it doesnt matter which wire goes to where, as long as you make sure that one of the wires in the gray cable goes ground and everyone goes to brake controller outlet. Theres a variety of ways in making a connection series, you can use wire nuts or a crimp style connector. For our connections made at the left side, well repeat the same process for the right hand side. With that that will cover the installation of part number TRBK10E01.

Fast shipping and top quality parts! Last summer I replaced all four brakes, hubs and bearing sets on my camper with these identical parts, but over-torqued one bearing and experienced an outer bearing failure on one spindle - almost lost the wheel. This unit is the same as I used previously and will replace the hub that was damaged by the bearing failure. I'm just waiting for warmer weather to install it - I won't be as aggressive on tightening the bearing this time. 116262

We have a tightening method that works pretty well for us. We tighten the nut, while turning the hub. As soon as we feel some resistance on the hub turning we stop. Then we back the nut off 1 notch on the castle nut, and secure with the pin or tang washer. Backing off that one notch allows enough breathing room for when the internals and grease warm up and expand a little. Ideally you want about .001 to .007 inches of room and backing off one notch usually falls within that range.

I ordered a complete electric brake setup for my 6x12 Haulmark trailer and Timbren springs for my Chevy Silverado 1500. Etrailer is great to work with and at this point I have no reason to buy from anyone else!! The brakes are all Dexter parts which is what I wanted. They were very easy to install on the trailer with a bit of help from the etrailer video. The brakes work great and give me a much better feeling about stopping the trailer in a emergency situation and is much easier on my truck brakes. The Timbren springs springs were easy to install after I realized that the installation is not correct for a 2004 Silverado but could be right for a 2011. The springs work very well as long as I have a fair amount of weight on the truck or pulling a trailer with at least 200lbs of tongue wt. When the truck only has 3 or 400 lbs in it which is normal with a cap and bed slide, it rides quite a bit rougher than without the Timbrens. I think air bags would have been a better decision with varying weight loads 47572

Everything arrived in good shape. Haven't installed do to weather. Was missing one plastic wire fastener on one of the breaks. On rechecking the web page I see that the nuts to secure the break to the trailer were to be purchased separately, had I noticed that I would have included it with my order. No problem was able to purchase 8 nuts and washers for $2.00 at a local nut and bolt dealer. Appreciate your help with my purchase and will deal with you when I need more items for my utility trailers or camping trailer. 178223

I am very happy with the products I purchased and the service I've received from etrailer. I jump for joy when I see the "made in america" label on products. At first I was just going to buy wheel bearings but when I saw how reasonable it was to put a set of brakes on my 5 X 8 covered trailer that I use to carry my motorcycle (Harley Bagger) I couldn't resist. Since the initial purchase I have made other purchases from etrailer with the same excellent customer service and product quality. You get what you pay for! Thank you etrailer. PS: I love the instructional videos also. 39526

Got boxes last week, as promised fast delivery. Bought the brake drum assemblies and the complete electric brake systems for my old travel trailer. I was going to install but I'm having the axles flipped sooooo, I'm having that shop do them. Reason- brakes 1st then have the axles flipped, the brakes would be upside down. Etrailer's websight was great. It was late when I ordered and had some questions. I went to the question section and my ? was answered. Thanks guys for great prices and the items I needed. 177541

This seems like a good product and it was definitely a good price. Everything went together fine. Only problem was that I was missing the lug nuts on one of the drums. The packaging was a little suspect as well but it didn't affect this product. (Two 30 lb drums in a cardboard box playing pinball with two backing plate assemblies half way across the country) I got everything I needed and didn't spend a small fortune...good enough. 91660

Great price, fast ship. Ordered on Sat. Night and received on Tues. morning. Product is great quality. Only suggestion I would make is that they should include nuts for the backing plates. ( I ordered those as well) Anyone that is ordering these is usually replacing old rusty ones and can't reuse the old nuts. Other than that misunderstanding everything was great. Would definitely order from etrailer.com again. 29515

Overall , no complaints about the product for the price . Nice hubs but a bit cheap on the bearings . Everything fit fine and works as it should . My only and biggest complaint is the packaging - products this heavy need to be wrapped in cardboard before boxing - the box was severely damaged in transit and I had to replace 3 of the new lug nuts . Otherwise, great service and price can't be beat . 99559

Good price and great hardware. I replaced the cheaper bearings with ones from the local auto parts store for an additional $15.00 per hub, but having good bearings to match the quality of the hubs was important. I used these with the TruRyde Electric Brake Assemblies. Went on easy and with the help of the videos on etrailer.com, I felt very confident that the job was done right. 135579

Arrived as advertised. Put these on my travel trailer in no time. Just pack the bearings and bolt them on. The lug nuts didn't work with my wheel, as it needs a deeper/longer nut to stick out far enough to get a socket on it, as the lugs are recessed in the wheel. Unlike the picture, a second dust cap without the rubber insert to get to the zerk fitting was included as well. 181783

Excellent quality and direct fit. Ordering complete backing plates made the install very easy by removing the four bolts on the back of the old plate and installing the new plate. Used a little brake cleaner on the drum and assembled the bearings; and the install was complete. E-Z lube the axle and bearing and done. Couldn't of been a better install and replacement. 26128

Just recently started using "etrailer" and have found it to be the best "one stop shop" for all things trailer related. My latest order was a hub and drum kit to carry as a spare. I was happy to find out that it was actually OEM. I love everything about this site. Great products, service, support, pricing and prompt shipping. I am a customer for life. 110422

One of the easiest orders I have ever placed as a "do it yourselfer" The service and advice was first rate and my order was shipped fast and arrived complete. I'm very glad I found etrailer.com to get these parts. 162926

As other reviewers the packing shipping was a little lacking. It probably did some bouncing around. The hub arrived with rust. I has to contact Dexter and send a picture to make sure that it was not an issue. They okayed it because it did not get into the race. Bearings seemed to be on the cheep side. Guess you get what you pay for.... 156233

Very pleased with the product. the fit was perfect. what you get for the money is amazing. the only slight drawback is that the bearings don't have any brand or part numbers on them, which leads me to think they may be of lesser quality. Again, what you get for the money is well worth it! 43885

Not installed yet, but everything shipped and arrived as expected. Only bought one side, but will probably get the other side from etrailer soon. Looks like the bearings are made in China, but I doubt anyone else in the world is making them any more. 46261

Drum is OK, but the included bearings are very low quality and I won't use them. The price was cheap and cheap bearings were of course what is included. etrailer.com should offer a more expensive option of real bearings (Timken) like other places do. 45952

  • Hub Assembly Recommendation for a 3500 lb EZ Lube Spindle
  • The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly, # 84546UC3-EZ, that you referenced will fit on a Dexter 3,500 lb EZ Lube spindle, however, this hub and drum assembly was designed to be used with axles that have 10 inch x 2-1/4 inch brake assemblies already mounted. If you do not have brakes, then I would recommend looking into a idler hub like the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly, # 84545UC1-EZ. This assembly will also fit on the Dexter 3,500 lb EZ Lube spindle and has the same bolt pattern as...

  • How to Determine the Correct Replacement Hubs for a Trailer with a 3,500 Pound Axle
  • There are a couple of things you can look at to determine the correct replacement hubs. The best way is to retrieve the inner and outer bearing numbers that are stamped into the bearings. I suspect that you will have the Trailer Hub Assembly, # 84545UC1-EZ, which uses L68149 Inner/L44649 Outer bearings and E-Z lube axles. Or, for a hub and drum, # 84546UC3-EZ, which is the same but has the hub and drum for drum brakes. But, the best way to know is to check your bearing numbers. The...

  • Can EZ-Lube Hub and Drums be Used on Non-EZ-Lube Spindles
  • This Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly # 84546UC3-EZ will work on your non-ez lube spindles. The only difference between the ez lube hub and drums and the non-ez-lube hub and drums is the grease cap. The ez lube ones like the # 84546UC3-EZ have a remove-able rubber seal on the cap that allows you to access the grease fitting of the ez-lube spindles. The # 84546UC3-EZ will work for you regardless if you have EZ-lube spindles or not. I also attached a video on trailer brake installation for...

  • Troubleshooting Weak Electric Trailer Brakes
  • Using too small of wire to carry the brake circuit can cause a number of problems ranging from poor brake performance to the wires melting. I would recommend you replace your current wiring with the recommended gauge wire. We typically recommend 10 gauge wire. You should note that locking up trailer wheels is not an effective way to slow down a trailer. You would want your trailer brakes to brake hard enough that they would almost lock up but never lock up. There are several other...

  • How to Select the Correct Hub to Change Out a 4 on 9.44 Inch Bolt Circle Wheels with 5 on 4-1/2
  • It sounds as if you have taken all of the correct measurements to determine the correct hub and drum assembly for your trailer. Normally the spacing of the bearings is not an issue, as long as the axle used on the trailer is not an Agricultural axle or a mobile home axle. The Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly, item # 84546UC3-EZ, is designed to be used with the EZ Lube Spindle, item # R20384EZ. The dimensions of this spindle are as follows. Seal diameter - 1.73 inches Inner Bearing diameter...

  • Can I Replace Standard Spindles with EZ-Lube Spindles Without Replacing the Entire Axle Assembly
  • You can cut off the old spindle and have an EZ-Lube spindle welded on your current axle. I would recommend using the same size spindle, just the EZ-Lube version, as your trailer originally came with. That being said, new hub assemblies and bearings should be hand greased when first installed. You have to get a good coating on all the bearings first, then you can use an EZ-Lube spindle to fill up assembly and do the packing for you. You will still have to perform regular maintenance....

  • Is Mobile 1 Synthetic Tube Grease Good for Trailer Bearings
  • That is a good question. I suppose it depends on how it is formulated and what its ratings are. Take a look at the FAQ article I have linked that covers everything you ever wanted to know about grease but were afraid to ask. The first part covers what the various letter ratings mean. Ideally you want something that is GC-LB rated. The FAQ also discusses choosing the best grease for an application and a compatibility chart. But when in doubt, clean it out. Meaning that if you are not...

  • How to Determine the Correct Hub for My MacGregor Sailboat Trailer
  • Determining the correct wheel bearings, seals or hubs for a trailer is normally done by using the existing inner and outer wheel bearing part numbers and grease seal part number. This is the only way to be sure that the correct parts are ordered. The bearing part numbers will ensure that you get the proper size and weight capacity parts for your application. When replacing the hub you will also need to be sure that you measure the wheel bolt pattern (see link) and, if the axle capacity...

  • Will Trailer Hub and Drum # 84546UC3-EZ Fit an ALKO 3500 Pound Axle
  • I read through the other question you sent and I can clear some things up for you. First, the ALKO axle brake mounting flanges have a different bolt pattern than do Dexter or similar assemblies when you go up to a 12 inch brake assembly and that is why they will not fit ALKO axles. The top mounting holes on an ALKO mounting flange are wider than they are on a Dexter. But on a 10x2-1/4 inch brake assembly the 4 bolt pattern should be the same. So you can use other 10x2-1/4 inch assemblies...

  • Parts Needed to Add Electric Brakes to a Trailer
  • Sounds like you are looking for everything needed to install electric trailer brakes on a trailer that did not originally come with electric brakes. I attached a link to an FAQ to the right that will walk you through the entire process. As far as wiring, what you will need to do is run a wire from the front of the trailer to each brake location. You will need 10 gauge blue primary wire, part # 10-1-1, which is sold by the foot. I would recommend measuring where you will be running the...

The Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly part # 23-469 will work for the right hand side brake assembly. For the left hand side you will need the part # 23-468. You will need to replace the hubs on your trailer with the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 84546UC3-EZ. One for each side of the trailer, they are ambidextrous unlike the brake assemblies. For...

  • Installing Hydraulic Trailer Brakes on a Kristi Utility Trailer
  • There are two ways to go. Drum brakes and Disc brakes. To determine which assemblies will fit on your spindles we will need to know the inner and outer bearing and seal part numbers. For the hydraulic actuator we will need the size of the trailer tongue where the actuator will mount. If you will get back to me with your choices and the needed...

  • Replacement Hub for Enclosed Cargo Trailer with Lippert lc135-d Trailer Axle
  • I looked online trying to find any information about the Lippert LC135-D axle, and was not able to find anything. Your best bet will be to pull off one of the existing hubs, and get the reference numbers off of it. If the inner bearing is L68149 and the outer is L44649, and the grease seal used has an outer diameter of 2.565 inches and an inner diameter of 1.719, your existing hubs have five 1/2 inch diameter wheel studs on a 4-1/2 inch bolt circle, then the # 84546UC3-EZ you referenced...

  • Will Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 84546UC3-EZ Fit Inside a 13 Inch Wheel
  • The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly, part # 84546UC3-EZ, will fit inside a 13 inch wheel. The reason we do not list it as working is because the highest load range 13 inch tire is not rated higher than 3,500 lbs, so the weight capacity will be determined by the tire or the wheel and not the axle. I am including a couple of links to FAQ pages on trailer tires and adding drum brakes to a trailer.

  • Can Electric Brakes be Used on a Boat Trailer
  • The general consensus is that electric brakes are not the best route for a boat trailer as electricity and water just don't mix well at all. Even if you unplug the trailer before you back it into the water the lingering moisture can cause problems. Especially over time since the assemblies will be submerged completely. If you are dead set on going this route I would recommend letting the trailer dry for several minutes before plugging the trailer connector back in. A better route...

  • Drum and Hub Kit, Wheel, and Brake Assembly Recommendation for a 2009 Starcraft 2106
  • I did some research and found that all of the hub and drum assemblies that would fit on your spindle would be 10 inches in diameter, and I also found that if you have a 10 drum you have to have at least a 13 inch rim, so you would need to upgrade to bigger wheels and tires also. The Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly, part # 84546UC3-EZ, that you referenced is the correct hub and drum assembly. You would need to weld the suspension to the frame. Welding should be performed by a qualified professional. If you do not already have hubs that would fit you can add # 84546UC3-EZ for a hub and drum assembly if you were to also add brakes. Or for an idler hub use # 84545UC1-EZ.

  • Installing Electric Drum Brakes on Older Statecraft Pop-Up Camper Trailer
  • If you are installing new electric drum brakes on a trailer that does not have them, or if you are replacing/upgrading brakes on a trailer that does already have them, it is advisable for safety reasons to treat both wheels equally. It is not safe to operate a trailer that has working brakes on only one wheel. This could lead to severe sway and so is not recommended. If you are replacing existing brake assemblies it is still recommended that you replace both for the same reason. If...

  • Will Changing From Idler Hub to Hub/Drum Change Wheel Offset
  • I ran out to the warehouse and pulled one of the # 84546UC3-EZ hub/drums, which I compared with a typical idler hub with 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern for a 3500 lb axle. I found that with both hubs, the distance from the rear seal surface to the front face of the hub where the wheel would ride is 2-1/2 inches.
