Note: Trailer wheels that are smaller than 15" and have 5 bolts, have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Dexter Trailer Hubs and Drums 8-259-5UC1 Review

Today we're going to take a quick look at Dexter Axle's Trailer Hub Assembly part number 8-259-5uc1. This trailer hub has a capacity of 1,250 pounds. So when you pair it with another one on the other side of the axle you'll have a total capacity of 2,500 pounds in your hubs which makes this a good application for 2,000 pound axles. Now this one features a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. So if we measure from the center of one lug to the center of the next we'll get our 2 5/8 measurement which indicates that it's 5 on 4 1/2. Now included with the hub assembly are the races, which are already pressed into place inside the hub.

You also have your five studs pressed into the hub and your five conical lug nuts for securing the wheels to the studs. You'll also find your cap that will protect the bearings and keep dust from getting inside, your grease seal--which, in this case, is a 10-9--in your inner and outer bearings. In this case they're both L44649. And that's it for a quick look at Dexter Axle's Trailer Hub Assembly for 8 to 10 inch wheels. Part number 8-259-5uc1..

Great hubs at a great price. Fully loaded minus the grease. Mine shipped with a double lip seal. Not sure if it was supposed to as I ordered extra seals because it wasn't supposed to have a double lip seal. The good news is now I have a spare set of seals. 75854

Replaced hub on a snowbear trailer with a failed wheelbearing. Hub set included everything required (save your hub nut and cotter pin). Function is same as original hub, however, original hub has a full flange. Quality seems OK, however, original equipment was also a Dexter hub. Hope this wheel bearing is better than original equipment.74947

Expert Answers about Trailer Hub Assembly for 8" to 10" Wheels - 2,000-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - L44649 Bearings - 8-259-5UC1 Do you have a question about this Trailer Hubs and Drums?

  • Replacing Trailer Hubs on Loadrite Trailer
  • From the dimensions you gave me, the Trailer Hub Assembly for 2000 lb Axle, 5 on 4-1/2 should fit. It has a 6-1/2 inch diameter hub flange. I measured the depth, and it is 4-1/4 inches (2 inches on each side of the flange, and the flange itself is 1/4 inch thick). If you take a look at your bearings, they should have a number stamped on them. This is the easiest way to match up a replacement hub. The hub I am suggesting fits L44649 bearings.

  • Trailer Hub To Spindle Combinations for 2000 Pound or 3500 Pound Axle
  • The HUB KIT # 8-259-5UC1, uses a 1,000 pound spindle, item # R104BTREZ. This setup is for a 2,000 pound axle. The Spindle 1.75 inch RD x 4 inch STUB, item # R20484, is for a 3500 pound axle. If you need a hub and spindle for a 3,500 pound axle then you would use the # R20484 spindle and the Trailer Hub Assembly for 3,500 lbs Axles with 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, item # 84545BX.

  • How to Determine the Bolt Hole Pattern on a Trailer Wheel
  • The Trailer Hub Assembly, # 8-259-5UC1, has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. To determine the bolt pattern of your trailer wheels, there is a simple way to measure. If there is an EVEN number of lugs, you will measure center to center on lugs directly across from each other. For example, if the wheel has 6 lugs and the center to center distance between 2 that are across from each other is 5-1/2 inches, then the bolt patter is 6 on 5-1/2. If there is an ODD number of lugs, you will measure from

  • Replacement Vintage Steal Wheel Recommendations
  • We consider the wheel style you have a Vintage wheel. I attached a page that shows all of the wheels we offer in that style. You will need to know the width and diameter of the wheel in order to determine which wheel you would need as a replacement. This information can determined from the size on the tire. Check out the FAQ articles I attached on trailer wheels and tires. Or, if you like, you can email me back with the size of your tire and I will help you pick out a correct wheel.
