Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2013 Volvo C30 - Curt

Today on this 2013 Volvo C30 we're going to install part number C11337 from Curt. This is what the hitch looks like when it's installed on the vehicle. Next we'll give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories, such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground is going to be about 11 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be about 2 1/2 inches. Now we'll show you how the hitch is installed. The first thing we need to do is remove the plastic fascia that's on the very bottom edge of the bumper. We'll remove two torque set screws from the plastic mounting brackets using a T25 Torx bit. Then we'll simply unsnap the plastic from the vehicle.

There are some edges inside there, but you can push and move around to get it to release. We'll set this aside for now and then we can go ahead and start installing our hardware into the bumper. Before we do that, we'll show you how the hardware interacts the hitch first. It'll be easier to see. We'll take our 3-inch long block and a carriage bolt through the bumper then the through the hitch. Then our flange nut will go on the back side. Behind the bumper is a frame mounting lip.

The hitch will mount on top of that and behind it we'll 00:05:15 get another plate. The plate has four weld nuts and we'll install a hex bolt and a conical tooth washer from the front to the rear to install it. When we install a conical tooth washer, you always make sure that the teeth always face towards the hitch. Now that we know how our hardware works, let's go ahead and install it into the bumper. We're going to take our provided fish wire and run it through the hole on the bottom edge of the bumper. There's two of them.

Then we'll route it over to the driver's side where there's a large oval opening on the inside edge. We did find out that a bolt leader is a little bit too short, so we had to add some length to it using another piece of wire. Once we have it through the bumper and out the access hole, we'll thread on our 3-inch long block and then our carriage bolt. We'll push them one at a time into the bumper structure and then pull them out the bottom. We're done with the passenger side. We'll repeat for the driver's side.

Now we'll slide the mounting plate up behind the frame mounting lip. There's a heat shield right behind it. We'll slide it up there and use the heat shield to help hold the plate in place. Now I can go ahead and install the hitch. First we'll install it onto the hardware installed into the bumper structure. We'll put it into place and then install the flange nuts. Next we'll take our hex bolts and run them through the hitch and through the frame mounting lip and into the bracket in the back. Once all our hardware is loosely installed, we can go ahead and tighten it down and then we'll torque the bolts down as specified in the instructions. You'll notice that the heat shield is hanging down around the hitch. What we'll do is, we'll trim out edges on the side of the hitch, bend the heat shield up and out of the way so it can't be seen from behind the vehicle. Now we'll take our plastic fascia and we'll loosely put it back into place. We do have to do some trimming. We'll hold it up to its original location and then we'll mark out what we need to trim. Once we've made our two marks, we'll cut it with some tin snips. Then we'll go all the way across with a knife to score the plastic, then we can break it free. Then we can go ahead and reinstall the plastic fascia. That's what it takes to install our hitch. That'll finish it for part number C11337 from Curt on our 2013 Volv0 C30. .

Unit was fairly easy to install, took about an hour The wiring on the other hand took much longer (removal of trim to hide the power wire, debating where to route the wires & how to get them from inside the car to outside to the battery). took about 3hrs 152848

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2012 Volvo C30 R-Design
  • I spoke with my contact at Curt and he said that while they haven't tested hitch # C11337 on an R-Design C30 they also have not had any calls from customers or installers saying that it wouldn't fit. So based on that and the fact that the rear fascia, though different in appearance on the R-Design, isn't any lower than on the base models, the hitch should fit the R-Design just fine. If you will be using the hitch for a bike rack or cargo carrier make sure the accessory is rated for use...
