Everything was shipped to me in very good time, the product was as described. My only complaint is that after spending $240 bucks on the hitch, mount, & ball there was no locking pin included with any of it. I found that to be highly annoying. Please begin including a lock pin with your mounts. The cost you practically nothing and would make me and other customers more satisfied, and would save your customers from having to take an extra trip to the auto parts store. 65484

I am very pleased with the quality of this hitch kit. Installation was very easy. had to have the tow hooks taken off of my truck by a mechanic with a pneumatic wrench since they were on there so tight before I could install it but I think anyone could have done it at home with a "cheater" bar. I also don't have a torque wrench so I just put all the bolts on tight. The next time I have the truck in the shop for service, I'll have them set the bolts at the recommended torque. Too easy. =)48791

The hitch was excellent, and arrived even quicker than anticipated. Putting it on was a snap, with the only difficulty in removing the bolts holding the rear tow hooks - I had to take the car to a auto shop so they could remove the bolts with an impact wrench. 26149

Replaced my Toyota installed hitch with this one because the Toyota hitch receiver is too low for my new set up (a Curt multipurpose trailer hitch with a bike rack adapter so I can carry my bikes and my tent trailer). New Curt hitch was delivered on time and was very easy to install. It took me 4 hours to remove the existing Toyota hitch (one trip to tool store) and about an hour to install the new Curt. If you are replacing an existing Toyota hitch, there is one existing bolt which is covered by the RHS tailpipe. This existing bolt may be a pain to get out, and you'll need a good heavy duty Crescent wrench or 18mm wrench, and possibly a wrench extender. I had to remove the RHS rear mud deflector to crank on it.21967

While the Curt hitch itself is solid, the mounting and fitment is not. Unfortunately, they imply this is a no drill, bolt-on, 'custom fit' unit... that is NOT an accurate statement and is misleading. My fault for not taking a much closer look at the instructions & diagram (PDF). The hitch frame extends beyond the end of the vehicle's frame, and requires a set of welded nut-plates to clamp the rearward bolt holes past the ends of the vehicle frame rails. This means the entire hitch receiver is positioned further back on the vehicle frame than the factory hitch. The Curt hitch is shifted 6" rear of OEM bolt holes. What this does is cause more force to be exerted at the rear of the frame rails. Since the trailer we intend to pull is already pushing the limits of allowable tongue-weight, I decided the Curt hitch was not a good solution... too much leverage placed at ends of the frame rails. A true bolt-on 'custom fit' hitch for a 1997 4Runner is the DrawTite Max (model 75091). It uses the same bolt holes as the OEM hitch. We returned the Curt and are very happy with the DrawTite Max. Also, the receiver tube on the DrawTite is a bit longer than the Curt. For most applications the Curt may be fine, but for our situation it was simply -not- an acceptable or well-designed 'custom' solution. 51899
