Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2013 Subaru Forester - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2013 Subaru Forester we'll be installing the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 24807. This is what our hitch will look like once it's installed. Next we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist your with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 6-1/2". From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 14". This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier.

Now we'll go ahead with installation. Now to begin our install we'll first need to lower the exhaust. To safely lower the exhaust we'll put a safety strap underneath to help support the weight. Then we'll need to remove five rubber isolators from the metal hangers. To remove the rubber isolators from the metal hangers we'll use some spray lubricant and a pry bar or pliers to remove the rubber isolator. Once we have all five removed we can then use the safety strap to safely lower the weight of the exhaust. Now that we've gained access to the frame rails we can go ahead and point out the attachment points.

We'll have a total of four attachment points, two on each side. We'll be using the holes that are already pre-drilled in the frame by the manufacturer. To use those holes we'll first go ahead and remove the rubber plugs or grommets. Using a flat blade screwdriver we can simply get underneath them and then remove them and set them aside, as they will not be reinstalled. Now to get our hardware into the frame we'll need to enlarge the forward access hole. To do this we're going to use a 3/8 drill bit and drill next to the hole.

Then using a round file bit we'll go ahead and open it up a little larger and go ahead and test fit our 1/2" hardware. Now that the 1/2" hardware will go in place, there's one more bolt that we'll need to remove. It's the forward attachment point for the muffler heat shield. We'll go ahead and remove this bolt, as it will not be reinstalled. We'll go ahead and repeat this same process for the opposite side.

Now ready to go ahead and install our hardware. The hardware for our forward attachment point will be a 7/16 carriage bolt and block secured with a 7/16 conical tooth washer and nut. We'll also use the 7/16 pull wire provided with our install kit to pull them into place. Our forward attachment point will be a 1/2" carriage bolt and block along with a 1/2" conical tooth washer and nut. To get that into place we'll be using the 1/2" bolt leader provided with the install kit. Now let's go ahead and get our hardware into the frame. We'll take our pull wire, feed it through the attachment point, and out the access hole. We'll then slide on the block right on the carriage bolt. We'll feed the block and bolt into the frame and pull them into position. For our forward attachment point we'll slide the block onto the bolt leader and then thread on the carriage bolt. Then using the reverse pull method we'll feed the carriage bolt into the frame first, followed by the block, then pull them back over top of the access hole. We'll leave the bolt leaders on at this time, as it will assist in getting our hitch up into position without pushing our hardware back up into the frame. We can now go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger side. Now with all our hardware in place we're ready to go ahead and install the hitch. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. We'll feed the bolt leaders through the attachment points of the hitch to bring the hitch up against the frame. We can then remove the bolt leader and install the conical tooth washer and nut, being sure that the teeth of the washer face the hitch. With all our hardware installed finger tight we'll go ahead and run it down. Next we'll torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with our hitch secured and torqued to specifications we'll go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. With that, this will complete the install of the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 24807, on our 2013 Subaru Forester. .

Instead of dropping the muffler system, I just disconnected the mufflers and one of the rubber mounts. They just swivelled out of the way. I thought the "fishing" was going to be a problem but I fished them throught the small hole and out the enlarged hole instead of the way the instructions said. Much easier. All in all a easy project. 28635

E-trailer's installation videos make this installation easy. It took longer than the 35 minutes the mfg indicates, but it was still very easy to do. I have this installed on a Subaru Forester and it works great. Highly recommend purchasing from e-trailer. 49708

  • What Hitch and Wiring will Fit my 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX 4 Door Sedan
  • In order to determine if it will fit and what wiring is need I need to know what year your WRX is. Hitch 11315 from Curt is designed for 2008-2010 Impreza Wagons, so I doubt it is the right fit for a 4 door WRX.

I have attached a link to all of the trailer hitches that will fit your vehicle for you to check out. The trailer hitch that I would recommend is the Draw-Tite Sportframe Class I Trailer Hitch, # 24807, that you referenced. • Comparing Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tite Trailer Hitches for a 2012 Subaru Impreza Sedan
  • The difference between the Hidden Hitch trailer hitch # 60893 and the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24807, is that the Hidden Hitch comes with a ball mount, hitch pin and clip. Otherwise, the installation will be the same. We give both a 6 out of 10 difficult rating for installation. This is based on the amount of time it would take on average to install the hitch. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a link to a video showing a typical installation for you. If you...

If you were planning on using the receiver only as an attachment point for a hitch accessory like a bike rack, the Draw-Tite # 24807 would be your best choice because you would not be paying for a ball mount that you will not need. Since you have the 2.5 liter, you will want to check the towing capacity of the vehicle which can be found in the owners manual. The type of trailers you are looking at are smaller tent or pop-up camper trailers that are not very heavy. The 2011 Jayco Jay Sport 10, for example, weighs in at about 2,500 pounds.
