Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2010 Nissan Murano - Curt

Today on our 2010 Nissan Murano, we're going to take a look at and then show you how to install the Curt Custom Fit Class III Trailer Hitcher Receiver. This offers the 2-inch by 2-inch opening. It's part number is 13577. Here's what the hitch is going to look like installed. As you can see, we've got our cross-tube that's going to run across the back of the vehicle here right in the center, what we wanted the 2-inch by 2-inch receiver tube opening. Reinforcement collar is going to be around the end of it and it has that flush front look that Curt does really well, gives it a nice clean look.

Some of the other ones have more of a rounded look to them. Now, this is going to sit just underneath the bumper, so if you bring your hand straight up, it's going to meet about right in here somewhere, and we won't have to worry about making contact with our legs or anything like that. Offers the 5/8 diameter pinhole. That's the pinhole we're going to use for securing all of our gear. You can use a pin and clip. You can use anti-rattle devices, lots of things out there.

Just make sure it's class III rated just like the hitch. Got our safety chain connection points here. It's a plate steel style. Pretty good size, should be able to get whatever connected there that we'd want to as far as hooks or carabiners, different things of that nature. The hitch itself is going to offer a 400-pound tongue weight rating. It's the maximum downward force we could put here at the receiver tube opening, and it's going to give us a 4,000-pound gross trailer weight rating.

It's going to be the total of our trailer and anything that we've got loaded up on it. Now, of course, we do want to look into the owner's manual on the Murano, see what it's rated for, and then we'll go off of whichever those numbers are going to be the lowest. The first step we're going to do here for our install is to lower our exhaust down. We're going to have 4 exhaust hangers. We've got 1 here in the back corner, 1 just up in front of that right above the pipe. We've got 1 located on the opposite side right up here just in front of that tailpipe section, and then there's going to be 1 right here in the middle. Now, it's going to be a good idea to get a small strap to put underneath there and give our exhaust some support.

We're going to use a little bit of spray lubricant here to help us as we slide these hangers off. Sometimes you can pull these off with your hands. Sometimes you have to use a pry bar or a screwdriver. Now, for the one on the outside here, it's a good idea to just give our exhaust a slight pull over toward our passenger side and then try to pry in from the back side of it. We'll just let that come down a little bit and rest on our strap. Then, we can look right above there. From the passenger side, we're going to have our 2 mounting location, 1 here and 1 here. Then over the driver side, same mounting locations, here and here, but as you can see, our tow hook's in the way, so we'll have to take out those 2 bolts as well as the 2 here that go into the frame. All right. Now, we just return our hardware and our bracket to the vehicle or the customer. Now, if need be, we can take a tap and clean out the threads here, just depending on the age of the vehicle. You may need to. This is a M12 x 1.25 tap. You can also use a nylon tube brush. We offer those on our website. Now, we can grab our hitch. We want to grab one of our M12 bolts and one of our conical tooth washer. Now, the teeth on that washer, we want that to face up towards the hitch just like that and wiggle our hitch up and in there. Then, we're just going to start our bolt into the weld nuts that we cleaned out. Once we got 1 started there good, we'll get 1 started here on the other side, and that will support itself while we grab our other 2 bolts and get those started, then we'll snug them down. All right, then just take a quick look to be sure you've got your hitch centered there. Now, we grab 1 of the 4 bolts that we had from our tie-down bracket. That's going to get threaded back into the forward hole location there. We'll look in our instructions, find our torque specs and we'll torque it down as well as our 4 down to the appropriate specification. All right. With everything torqued down there, we can get our exhaust hangers put back into position. Get our strap out of the way here and our hitch is ready for use. With our exhaust back in place, that completes today's installation of the Curt Custom Fit Class III Trailer Hitcher Receiver, Part Number 13577, on our 2010 Nissan Murano.

The Curt trailer hitch fits and looks great on my 2009 Nissan Murano. The unexpected problem with the install is 3 of the 4 needed bolt holes in the frame of the vehicle were corroded from road exposure, preventing threading of the bolts. To correct this, I purchased a 12mm -1.25 metric tap and T-handle tap wrench (from Menards for around $15 total). I did have to lower the exhaust assembly (per the instructions) to gain access to use the tap. With use of a spray lubricant, the tap cleaned out the threads without much difficulty. Just get it straight when you start and it works well. Took a total of about 90 minutes in all with the failed attempts to insert the bolts on the first try, then tapping of the 3 bolt holes. 144622

Received the hitch on time for our 2013 Murano. My initial concern was if I could install the hitch without lowering the muffler system. My concern was unwarranted. I was able to install the hitch by myself and it only took me approx 1 hour. I located the hitch in place and blocked it in the install position so i could bolt it up with my hands free. I would recommend the product and company to anyone 133682

Watch the movie! When the hitch receiver arrived the heavy guage cardboard box was slightly damaged (and I was concerned that the bolts may have gone missing: not to worry, they were in a small plastic bag heavily taped inside the hitch receiver pocket. This installation can be done without jacking up the vehicle, but it could take longer than 40 minutes, although it is not a difficult job. Definitely lubricate the exhaust and muffler supports. The only problem I had was removing the tow point: the nuts were extremely tight and an air wrench was required. The hitch receiver is well made and finished, and it fit perfectly. I had to use an extension between the socket and the torque wrench on the driver side, but not on the passenger side: this may have been due to not lowering the muffler far enough. A 5/8" and a 19mm socket are required. Suggest when re-installing the muffler to hook up the exhaust pipe rubber hanger first before the hangers attached to the muffler. 104074

Ordered hitch on Thursday with no charge for shipping, received Monday. Product appears to be very solid and well-made. Fits my 2014 Murano perfectly. The installation instructions are a bit minimal, but etrailer's installation video was very helpful. Was able to install by myself, without lowering the exhaust or raising the rear end. Took about an hour, but I'm not especially talented or fast. You'll need a 19mm socket for the 4 bolts supplied with the kit, and a 16mm socket to remove the bolts from the Murano tow bracket. Also a socket extension bar of 10" if you do not lower the exhaust. Supported the hitch with a block . As you'll see from other reviews, it is possible to install it by yourself, but I think it would have saved me a lot of time and effort if I'd asked somebody to help me. 177747

Outstanding product, easy to install, worked as advertised. The hitch bolted right in and I did not have to drop the exhaust...very straight forward process. I also ordered and installed the wiring harness and 4 pin bracket, no issues; instructions were precise and on target. Great product and great service. 96840

I would definitely order from etrailer again as the communication was excellent and the hitch arrived timely and with all hardware needed to install. It's a nice clean but beefy looking hitch. My brother and I installed this in little over 1/2 an hour in my driveway. We backed the car onto car ramps to raise the back some (easier to get underneath). Between having an extra set of hands to help, the car ramps to raise the vehicle some, and having a nice long socket extension (probably around 12"), we didn't even have to remove the exhaust from it's hangers. I wish everything went on like this hitch did (like it's supposed to.....). Thanks etrailer! 20810

Package arrived on time. The hitch installation was easy it looks good on the car, however in order to install the hitch the factory tow bracket had to be removed. 44057

I received the trailer hitch 4 days after I ordered it. Already pleased out of the gate by having it arrive so I could install it this weekend. The installation went very well as advertised. The only pain as I expected it would be was putting the car trim pieces back into place (always easier to disassemble then to reassemble so no surprise) after I completed the electrical for the lights. The video of the process was a big help. I could not be more pleased with the price and the quality. I think you guys have it figured out. 12260

Excellent communication from the moment the transaction was placed through etrailer. They emailed me when the hitch was shipped and a follow up when delivery was completed. The hitch itself is awesome looking and well built. I have to admit I was a bit reluctant on installing the hitch myself, but after watching the online demonstration of the installation for the second time I was ready to give it a try. Very seldom do thing work for me without a hitch, no pun indented, but this time it did. Clean easy installation..... 19049

Everything you said it was. The only problem I had was I could not get the muffler mount off the left rear side . the hitch still went smooth and easy. the same with the wiring harness . I still have to put in the 4 pole to 7 pole adapter I will do that as soon as the long mount gets here . I put mine in without lifting the car, I'am 68 if I can any one should be able to do it or you should not be towing. Will send pictures ween I get long mount installed. I just instaled the Curt trailer hitch I got from etrailer on my 2010 Nissan Marano. I was able to do it laying on my back in my driveway because the fit was perfect. I liked the Curt hitch best because I like the round tube design better than the square tube ones. Only took me about an hour to do, piece of cake. Just waiting now for the hitch mounted bicyle rack to come, than I'll be good to go. Thanks etrailer, I'll be back. 10924

The only thing keeping this from a full “Excellent” score is that there were a few minor chips in the finish on the hitch receiver. But other than that, everything fit just like in the video and there were no surprises during installation. I really appreciate the “how to” videos and being able save that money on the installation by doing it myself. Now we can spend the savings on other cool things on the website. 50700

Hitch was awesome and so easy to install thanks to your videos online. Made quick work of it and didn't even need to lower the exhaust. Your site was perfect and so easy to use. Will be recommending it to anyone I know who is even remotely curious about getting a hitch or wiring put on their vehicle. Also watched your wiring videos as well and that made a scary job so easy. Thanks again. 53479

Meriah was fantastic in handling my order. She assisted me (as did other's on previous calls) in ensuring that I was ordering the right pieces. She made sure that my order was filled quickly as I was under a time constraint to get the hitch installed to go pick up a new camper. It arrived and was very easy to install! The videos are a tremendous help. Thanks! Steve 223572

When this hitch arrived, my reaction was "This will never fit on my car". But I figured I'd give it a try. Literally 15 minutes later it was installed on my car...it fits perfectly, looks great, and was easier to install than the directions indicated -- I didn't have to lower the muffler. Thanks -- I will never hesitate to recommend etrailer to anyone. 126633

We were very pleased with the quality of the hitch including the prompt delivery and first-rate packaging. The hitch was installed by our local tire dealer for $120; all went smoothly. The installed product saved us more than $400 compared to a dealer installation for our 2009 Nissan Murano. We highly recommend.... 103694

After watching your installation video I realized how simple the install was going to be I immediately order the type of hitch I wanted The installation only took 1 hour from start to finish and the hitch fit perfectly The Nissan dealer wanted $460 to install a cheep version of a hitch than would not satisfy my needs 85602

Great product and service. Easy to install. Took an hour by myself with a floor jack, and I did NOT need to lower the exhaust! Our vehicle was new so this installation was easy. Took 4 bolts out, held hitch in place, put bolts in(the holes were already threaded) tightened them and we were done. Took about half an hour and it looks like factory installation. Very clean, sturdy, solid unit. Happy!! 218302

Installation procedures can vary slightly depending on whether or not you have the Cross Cabriolet version. The link provided has a drop-down menu to let you choose which version Murano you have and to see the hitch options that fit. Curt hitch # 13577 fits both versions and requires...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2013 Nissan Murano
  • The Nissan Titan and Armada and Titan do not use the same trailer hitches. The 2013 Murano also requires trailer hitches designed just for it. If you have a regular model you can use # 75647 that you have referenced. If you have the CrossCabriolet model use # 13577. If you plan on doing some towing with either hitch I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. For trailer wiring use # 118653.

  • What Hitch Lock Is Recommended To Use On The Curt Class III 2 Inch Hitch # 13577
  • To use a hitch lock on Curt Class III 2 Inch Hitch, part # 13577, I would recommend the Deadbolt Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, part # 7683. If you want a hitch lock that also includes an anti-rattle device you can use the Softride Anti-Rattle Device and Lock for 2 Inch Trailer Hitches, part # SR25219. If you are using a hitch bike rack or hitch accessory on your hitch you will need to use a hitch lock designed for that particular brand of hitch accessory. Most of the hitch accessory manufacturers...

  • How to Carry Bikes with a 2011 Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet
  • To carry a bike rack with your 2011 Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet will require you to install a trailer hitch first as there are no trunk mounted options. For a hitch you would need the part # 13577 as it is the only confirmed to fit option we have. The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Swagman XTC2 Bike Rack part # S64670. This rack has a ton of positive reviews from our customers who have tried it. Check out the review video I attached...

  • Bike Carrying Options for 2014 Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet
  • You'll need to use a hitch mounted bike rack, as there aren't any trunk mount bike racks that are compatible with your Murano. For a hitch, I'd recommend the Curt Class III hitch, part # 13577. For a bike rack, Swagman offers the reasonably priced yet well equipped Trailhead which is available in a 2 bike model # S63360, 3 bike model # S63365 or 4 bike model, as part # S63380. The racks include an anti rattle hitch bolt, but I'd recommend adding a locking hitch bolt/cable lock combo...

  • Trailer Hitch And Bike Rack Recommendation For 2014 Nissan Murano Crosscabriolet
  • In order to have a bike carrier on your 2014 Crosscabriolet, you will need to use a trailer hitch mounted carrier. There are no trunk-mount racks available due to the way the back of the vehicle is made. I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 13577. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2 inch receiver opening. When installing the hitch the tie-down hook will need to be removed. The carrier I recommend is the Thule Vertex 2 Bike Rack, part # TH9028XT. This bike rack...

  • Where are the Torque Specs for Installing Curt Trailer Hitch 13577 on a 2009 Nissan Murano
  • The torque specifications for trailer hitch # 13577 can be found in step 5 of the instructions which I have linked for you. I have also included a link to a video showing a typical installation on a 2009 Nissan Murano. Our installers always say to torque the hardware as specified in the instructions. This is because should the manufacture change the torque specs, the instructions will be up to date.

  • How to Remove Undercoating on 2013 Nissan Murano to Install Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13577
  • It sounds to me like the dealer applied some type of undercoating to the vehicle. In this case you could try removing it off of the weld nuts with a putty knife in order to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 13577, on your 2013 Nissan Murano. If you are unable to remove the coating yourself, I recommend contacting the dealer or the company that applied the undercoating for instructions on how to remove it from the weld nuts.
