Today on our 2005 Nissan Frontier, we're going to be taking a look at the three hitches we have available here at eTrailer and we're going to show you the differences between them. Starting here at the top we've got the Draw-Tite. This is a class 3, 2-inch hitch. Part number is 75282. We've got its twin sister here by Hidden Hitch. Part number is 87539.
Then we've got the Curt class 3, 2-inch opening hitch as well, part number on this is 13241. Each of our hitches offer the 2-inch opening. Some of the differences that you'll notice right away are going to be the safety chain connection points. You see with the Curt here it uses the roll bar kind of style. Once you get into the Draw-Tight or Hidden Hitch, more of a bracket or a plate style. These look like they would be a little bit more of a challenge for getting your safety chains connected, so you might want to keep that in mind if you're using smaller safety chain connectors.
Whereas with the Curt it should be no real issue. The Curt has a standard five-eighths hitch pin hole, just like our Hidden Hitch and our Draw-Tite. However there is a little bit smaller hole just here on the front on both the Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tite. That's going to be for the J-pin stabilization device if you choose to use that. One thing that we noticed is that the Draw-Tite and the Hidden Hitch sit a little bit lower. They are a little bit more visible.
You're going to see about half the bar going all the way across behind our vehicle. Where the Curt is tucked up and a little more hidden. It's about a half-inch higher at the top of the receiver tube than what we're going to have on the other ones. As far as towing's concerned, our Hidden Hitch and our Draw-Tite both start with a 750 lb. tongue weight capacity, where the Curt's going to start with a 500 lb. tongue weight capacity.
That's the amount of force we can put downward on our receiver tube opening. All three are going to have a 5000 lb. gross trailer weight capacity. That's the total of our trailer loaded up with everything we've got on it. If we go into a weight distribution setup, all things become equal across our hitches. We've got an 800 lb. tongue weight capacity through the rack and an 8000 lb. Gross trailer weight capacity through our rack. The center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper is all going to be the same at about three and a half inches. So there won't be any real benefit to bike racks, cargo carriers, things like that. As far as towing's concerned, as long as you've got 500 or less in the tongue weight capacity compartment on what you plan on towing, all of them will work fine. If you're going above that, we might need to go to the Hidden Hitch or the Draw-Tite to have a little bit more of that tongue weight capacity. As far as ground clearance is concerned, the Curt's probably going to be the best one there. It's a little bit higher. If you like an aesthetically pleasing look, the Curt's going to be the one that's a little bit more hidden and you won't be able to see as much of it and give it a nice, clean look. An additional feature that's on the Draw-Tite and on the Hidden Hitch is going to be a bracket, or tab, that's been welded on. It's got three holes in it. Those three holes are going to allow us to attach our seven pole bracket or a 4-way bracket or whatever we need to secure our wiring off. As far as installation goes, it couldn't get any easier. Take the bolts that come with the hitch, thread them into existing weld nuts and you're really done once you've got them torqued down. Super easy hitches to install and they're all going to go in the exact same way. Here's what the Hidden Hitch or the Draw-Tite's going to look like once you get it installed on the vehicle. As you can see, we've got about half of that main tube hanging out below the bumper and we've got a small gap that exists between the top of the receiver tube and the bottom of the bumper. The visual difference that you're going to see with the Curt is that the bottom of this tube is up about even with the bottom of the bumper, or at least closer to even. That brings our receiver tube from where it's at up one half of an inch to give us additional ground clearance. So if we're going to be using cargo carriers, bike racks, things like that, that little bit of clearance might help us out a little bit getting in and out of steeper grades. From the center of our main hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of our bumper is going to be consistent across the board so we won't have to worry about any variances there. The only differences, visually, that we'll be able to see is this receiver tube opening on the Curt being up a half-inch higher. Now that we've had a good look at the differences, we hope that this is going to help you in making your hitch purchasing decision. If not, we've got a team of experts standing by that can answer any questions that we have.
Average Customer Rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars (96 Customer Reviews)This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant.
The first thing I will say was the customer service at Etrailer.com was awesome. I called up with some questions they were answered and I was guided in the right direction and got the right product for my 2012 Nissan front tier crew cab pick up but more importantly there's no high-pressure sale or buying things I did not need. That to me just as a consumer says a lot that you can call a company get an American on the phone will give you good customer service and advice that's getting to be a rear concept nowadays. The hitch arrived as ordered and after some cleaning out and lubrication of the weld nuts on the frame it was easy to install I guess where the hitch on top of me and did kind of a benchpress motion to secure it with a couple bolts then was able to snug it up. The only complaint I had was installing around the muffler they just seems to be one bolt the does not want to get snugged up. It took some finessing and for all I know it's probably cross threaded in there but it's in there forever now not really any trailers fault or Curt hitches fault it seems to be a poor design by Nissan that unless you have some mongoloid long extension it's hard to snug up that bolt. The curt hitch seems very well-made and I like the fact that it is a America and keeps jobs in this country plus you can really tell the extra coating is on there which is nice here in Massachusetts with our salt filled winters. If I had a longer extension I think it would've been easier to install around the muffler but the total install time start to finish for me was only about 12 minutes and I did it myself. 153221

Product received in good condition. Bolted right up with no problem. Most difficult part was managing the weight of the hitch and getting bolts started. Wiring relay connections was a breeze to install. Most difficult part of this proceedure was the removal of the factory installed protective cap under the rear of the truck so the 4 prong wire plug could be plugged in. Over all installtion of everything took about an hour, but i took my time to be sure I got everything right. 60527

Got my hitch and harness today. The box was damaged at the receiver which is not entirely unexpected. Took everything to my friends shop since he had the space and tools. When we lined up the hitch, the slotted bolt holes did not line up. Whether it was due to the hitch being damaged in transit, manufactured out ot square or a factory frame issue is unknown. As I am a remodeling contractor, I know the value of a 2X4 and a bottle hydraulic jack. I was able to partially install the hitch and then spread it into place in order to install all six installation bolts. After that, we torqued them to proper foot lbs. These types of issues should be expected as there are too many variables when dealing with aftermarket products. I will say the shipping was fast and overall, the quality of the hitch appears decent for the price. Just be prepared for little issues when you install something like this. 175014
Very fast shipping, placed order on Tuesday and received on Thursday. Very pleased with all items ordered. This is a simple and easy install that should only take about forty five minutes to complete, which would have been the case but two of the bolts that attach the hitch to frame got cross threaded due to Nissan not alining holes with enough clearance to thread bolts properly into welded nuts on frame. I had to rethread those nuts with a tap, not etrailer or the hitches fault but Nissan's. Everything else in the install was easy and went fast. The hitch and all other parts look to be of solid quality. For all these parts and labor I was quoted a price of $365. at a locale hitch dealer, I only paid $228. from etrailer. Saving that much made it worth doing myself even with the nut problem. 122364

Hitch looks to be made from 5/16" thick plate and square tube. Welds are complete and craftsmanlike. Finish is complete, hard, and attractive. The bolts supplied are high quality hardened 12mm 8.8 rated, tensile strength about 115,000 psi. I think the truck frame is the weakest link in the system! I installed the hitch by myself in a leisurely 1/2 hour. The hitch is a true bolt-on product - the holes in the hitch lined up with those in the frame as well as need be. No struggling to get the bolts started. I used a c-clamp to hold one end of the hitch up to the frame while bolting the other end. Hitch arrived very quickly, faster than I anticipated. Etrailer kept me informed at every step of the ordering and shipment process. I couldn't be more pleased. 38314

This was the first time using etrailer. I found the web site easy to navigate and the instructional videos extremely helpful. When the hitch receiver arrived I discovered that one of the end support bars (that attach to the frame of the truck) was bent about an inch inwards. I was forewarned by several people that this might happen as a result of shipping and handling. I quickly fixed the problem by placing the damaged end in a fork of a tree and using the other end as leverage to straighten it out. The installation was straight forward. Make sure you review the on line instructional video and have a second set of hands prior to installation. The reciever fit like it came with the truck right out of the showroom. Very pleased. 224648
Hitch (Part 13241) and electrics (Part 118266) arrived on time, 40 minutes later everything was installed and connected. Had to ream out the washers to fit the bolts and drill new holes in the Mounting Box (Part 18157) to fit the 7-Way connector ... overall good value. 219505

2012 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X Simple installation, wiring harness very easy to install takes about 10 minutes. Hitch installation took about 20 minutes, easier with two people to get it lifted up under the truck. 6 bolts torqued properly then just run the wiring harness to your liking, that probably took the longest cause I am picky. Overall extremely easy install. etrailer.com was awesome, I received multiple notifications via email on the status of my order, and additional instruction email as well as delivery confirmation email. Package arrived safe and in a very timely manner. Could not be happier with this purchase. 53748

The hitch for my new/used Frontier installed in only 10 minutes! Even though I had not 'turned a wrench" in 10 years, with just a bit of help holding it in place, it fit perfectly. I'm not sure all trucks have the pre-drilled and threaded holes, but after watching the video, there seemed to be no reason to pay to have this installed. It lined up to perfection, looks great, and even had a great shiny black paint job. My new Frontier, fondly called Neela--Hindi for blue--looks pretty fine in the rear end! Now she is patiently waiting for her new tonneau! 207968

The hitch arrived in only a few days, I ordered it on a Sunday and it was delivered the following Tuesday or Wednesday. The box was damaged in shipping, not the fault of etrailer, but it was resealed and nothing was missing or damaged. As a matter of fact, I received a bonus piece - a roller from the carrier's conveyor system! A second set of hands is very helpful when installing the hitch, at least use a jack stand or something to support one end. It took less than 30 minutes to install and looks great. 123752

Hitch was delivered in 3 days. Was in perfect condition. Very easy to install (with two set of hands) I sprayed the weld nuts with lubricant and hand threaded the bolts. My mistake was I first tried it install by myself and I think I cross threaded the nut. (Totally my fault) if I had two people (as recommended) would have been a breeze. Ordering was easy as I did some research before I ordered. Very friendly and professional customer service. Would certainly do business with Etrailer in the future. 216067

The bolt holes did not align with the weld nuts on my new 2015 Frontier. There may have been some damage in shipment. Etrailer immediately shipped a replacement. Installation was truly a 30 minute job. I'm 65 years old and know that you will only have problems with a company that you choose to do business with. What matters is how they solve those problems! Excellent customer service, easy to contact and easy to talk to. Great job Etrailer! 172605
Arrived as described on the website. I installed it myself in about 30 minutes on a 2012 Nissan frontier. Used a 6" extender for my wrench and a knuckle to get around the exhaust pipe. It's only 6 bolts total to install. The tricky part was hanging it up by myself. I used a couple of bar clamps to help me out with that part while I hand tightened the bolts. Overall great service from etrailer! Great customer service and fast shipping! 176521

The Curt hitch arrived in perfect condition. I didn't have an extra pair of hands so I zip-tied it to my floor jack and lifted it into place under my Nissan Frontier, installed the six bolts, torqued to specs, and viola! All done. I meant to take a picture of the hitch mounted on my floor jack before I installed it but forgot... sorry. I'm very pleased with my purchase and the free shipping on such a heavy item was a big bonus. 199901
Figured I'd test the estimated install time. 32 minutes and that included unpacking, locating the proper size socket, scrounging something to hold one end up while I attached the first, putting the socket away and taking the box to the recycle bin. Quite impressed. Thought there was a problem with the last screw but I found I had to tighten the end closest to the tailgate a bit more (or push it up) and it went right in. 184965

Perfect fit. The installation video was outstanding. This was my first DIY hitch install. The installation videos made this super easy. I installed this on a 2006 Nissan Frontier in a matter of minutes. I bought a torque wrench and the socket extension as the video indicates due to the spare tire location prevents you from turning the torque wrench. All you need to is follow the instructions, it is that simple. 217407

This is the second trailer Curt hitch I have purchased from etrailer. This purchase is a direct result of the quality of the first hitch combined with the pleasure of doing business with etrailer. The Curt hitch is top quality, fits my Nissan Frontier perfectly and looks good. In the future, when I need a hitch or hitch accessories, I will look at etrailer first. 7525

My trailer hitch receiver and wiring harness arrived quickly and without incident. I installed the hitch in approximately 15 minutes without any assistance. The only problem installing the wiring harness was getting the plug out of existing harness due to the age of the vehicle. I installed both the hitch and wiring harness in approximately 45 minutes. 183306

From the moment I ordered the hitch from etrailer.com, I received special care with emails confirming handling, shipping and receipt. The product was top shelf and fit beautifully. The whole job took less than a hour to install. The product was great and etrailer.com was great! I will order again... and recommend others to do the same! 30050
Item arrived packaged very well from etrailer. The finish looks thick, and durable, and the hitch came with quality hardware. The mounting holes lined up perfectly with the factory weld nuts, and the hitch sits neatly behind the bumper. Best of all---Made in the USA. Go with the Curt, the other big names are Made in Mexico. 212818

Just received the hitch, wiring harness, and combo pack ball mounts. I had it installed in less than 15 mins and the wire harness snapped into place in just a minute. I'm ready now to pick up my boat in the morning! I watched the install videos online which are assume and love this web site, they make it so easy. 18947

This product arrived just as advertised. Excellent quality product. About 20 min to install the hitch and about 10 min to install the electrical plug in system. Super easy and I know that if this truck came with the tow package it would have have been exactly as it is now. I would highly recommend this product! 181089
When it arrived the "arms" of the hitch receiver were not exactly square with the long boxy support (that runs along the bumper). It had apparently been dropped and the holes to the frame did not line up. I bent one of the arms a few degrees by wedging it in my trailer walls. After that, it fit perfectly. 54881

I purchased a trailer hitch and harness for my 2014 Frontier. I cannot believe how quick it was delivered. Both then harness and hitch installed without a glitch. The price was the best of what I found on the net. In fact, I just discovered floor mats "custom fit" for 35 USD that I plan to order. 145265

I'm very impressed, and satisfied. 47987
Received the package yesterday, installed today (after work) in no time flat. Nissan dealer wanted $350 for the hitch installed. Seriously, took my husband and me 15 minutes to install it. I don't know ANY mechanic worth $800/hr! Fantastic service, great product. . .what more do I need! 95274
Ordered the Curt hitch receiver for my 2012 Nissan Frontier on Thursday night. Monday morning UPS had it in my yard. No problems with the fit and finish. It would be a lot easier with two people, but with a couple pieces of 1/4" line it was not a problem. Satisfied with the hitch. 56458

Hitch appears to be well made. Ordered on Sunday arrived on Wednesday. No problems with installation, it is done quickly with another persons help. Highly recommend this company and this product. We are looking forward to using an extender bar to secure our kayaks. 227330

Product number 13241 installed very quickly - probably less than 20 minutes by myself. Holes on hitch lined up perfectly with holes on frame. I did retap holes on weld nuts first because truck had been driven four winters in an area where lots of road salt is used. 180138

Exactly what I ordered, small problem when I went to install it, one of the bolts wouldn't start , think UPS was a little rough, put a clamp on it till bolt was a few threads in. Some damage on box. Don't think it was anything etrailer did, Looks great! Thanks 82360

The hitch was very good and installed very easy , the wiring kit was plug and play and easy to install, very nice . The prices were great , they have prompt shipping . I look forward to doing more business with them for my new Nissan frontier. 180581
I ended up going with etrailer because they had the best price. Shipping was free and they even sent it sooner than promised. The hitch bolted right to the frame as promised and the wiring kit connected as the instructions said it would. 31236

Item was as advertised. The fit was perfect and installation including the wiring harness took about thirty minutes. It is a two man job if no alligator jack or lifting device is available to place the hitch into position to bolt down 193410

Super Fast, Free Shipping. The product was in perfect condition upon arrival with all parts and a brief instruction sheet. The product was easy to install and I look forward to putting it to good use! 226059
Fit my 2015 Frontier perfectly. Dorect bolt on no drilling or welding. I did it alone and only took 20 minutes. Would likely be quicker if you had a helper to hold the hitch up cause it aint light. 196467
Installed in under 30 minutes, you will need a torque wrench to properly install. (On the 2012 Frontier, the exhaust pipe blocked 1 of the 6 bolts from being torqued) I would recommend this product. 159006

The left bracket of the receiver was bent, I think it was dropped in shipment. I adjusted it with my maul. It went on fine. Thanks for the quick shipping. Ordered on Monday, arrived on Wednesday. 204302
Shipping was very fast. Fit was spot on. Only problem was one of the bolts had bad threads (damaged threads). Had another bolt in the shop so it was no big deal. I would give everything a thumbs up. 41324

hitch came in quicker than expected . total time on install was about 1 hr including the wireing harness .hardest part is removing the plastic kick plate and not breaking it . 32649

I installed the receiver today. I had a minor problem. One of the bolt holes did not line up quite right. I had to apply a bit of force to get it to line up correctly. 123829

Hitch showed up with left side bent in about 3/8" so will not line up with holes on frame of vehicle. Will have to return, hopefully not at my expense. Results pending. 38565
