Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Lexus RX 330 - Draw-Tite

Today on this 2005 Lexus RX 330 were going to install part number 75153 from Draw Tite. Alright this is what the hitch looks like once its installed on the vehicle. Next well give you some measurements that will help you out in some selecting some accessories such as a bicycle rack, a ball mount or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin to the edge of the bumper is going to be about inch and from the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be 14 inch. Now Ill go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. For the first step is to go ahead and remove the tie-down bracket and rubber plugs.

Now when you look at the passenger side, it should be identical on the driver side as well. Lets go and repeat for the driver side. At this point we can go ahead and install the hitch. Now its definitely good idea to have an extra hands to help hold up while you run the hardware into the frame. And when we install a hardware, well make sure that the teeth on the conical tooth washer point towards the hitch.

Alright, now youre gonna leave all your hardware loose so you can move it around to help get the bolts in place. With all the hardware loosely installed, now we can go ahead and snug everything down. Once we have the hitch drawn up to the vehicle, we can go ahead and torque everything as specified in the instructions. There we have it for part number 75153 from Draw Tite. .

The hitch was a snap to put on the car - EASY!!! Took 15 minutes max from start to finish. It looks well made and rugged. A HUGE negative for me, however, is how far from the back bumper it sticks out. It is easy to knock your shin on it and looks obnoxious. I thought it would be tucked under the bumper or at least flush with the bumper but it is not. I am NOT AT ALL happy with how far it sticks out. The quality, however, does appear to be top notch. If you could make one that doesn't stick out and exchange it I would be 1050% HAPPY!!!!! 36267

Of the three available hitches for my Highlander hybrid, this DrawTight was the one most recessed, so very little but the receiver is visible. Free shipping arrived (UPS) in three days. All holes lined up perfectly. Installed in 20 minutes without jacking or lifting. I had expected it to be fairly straightforward, but it turned out to be rediculously easy. (Don't tell my wife...) 32240

I just bought an 06 Highlander and am looking for a hitch that will NOT stick out too far beyond the bumper. Can you send any photos? If possible I am looking for a side view.Any input from others that have a Highlander and have various brands of hitch would be appreciated. Thanks a lot

I have added links to 3 videos that will show how the 13530 from Curt, the 75153 from Draw-Tite and the 70778 from Hidden Hitch install and fit on the 2006 Toyota Highlander. The videos have a good profile shot in the first minute or so. The Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch will be close, if not identical in position.

The Draw Tite class III receiver I got for my RX350 was as advertised. Fast shipment and very easy to install. I had to use a clamp to pull one of the mounting brackets into alignment so I could get the bolts in, hence the very good rather than excellent rating. The entire job took about 20 minutes. I still have the much longer job of installing the wiring harness left to do. I installed a similar Draw Tite class III receiver on my 2007 RAV4. It provided 5 years of good service but was rusty after 3 years. Auto makers seem to have solved the rust problem for the most part on their cars. Now hitch makers need to do the same. 49508

Can't wait to tow stuff! I'm deducting one star only because it's pretty hard to persuade a hitch to bend. In the installation video, which was great by the way, the installer had to bend the hitch a little using a 2x4. I tried the 2x4, but the hitch had to move pretty far to get the back hole to line up. So my brother-in-law put his 2 ton jack on end and we cranked it open pushing against the spare tire and the hitch. Whew! Nevertheless, the installation was still very quick and I saved a lot of money by buying the hitch from Etrailer, installing it myself, and not going to my Toyota dealer. 2169

I called to order my trailer hitch and Cathy was very helpful. She made sure I ordered the correct wiring kit. The hitch came on time and it installed easily on my Highlander. The hitch, a rigid brand, seems to be made of a high quality steel. I look forward to using it. I highly recommend ordering for me trailer. 130256

Easy installation, factory fit Hitch fit perfectly. Obviously custom-made for the Highlander. Only things I didn't like were some welding splatter and the paint was a bit thin in some places so it may need to be painted one day, but I would recommend it anyway. Great service and fast shipping 407

  • Difference Between Hitches for 2006 Toyota Highlander
  • The only difference between the Curt Class III Hitch # 13530, the Hidden Hitch # 70778 and the Draw-Tite # 75153 is that the Curt hitch has the safety chain loops welded to the bottom of the receiver, while the Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tite models have the safety chain loops welded to the top. All three hitches are very similar in appearance, share the same weight capacities and would install in the same manner. I have linked to the install instructions as well as some install videos...

  • Why are Hitches for a 2005 Toyota Highlander Not Rated for Weight Distribution
  • You're correct. A class III hitch is typically rated for use with weight distribution. However, the Highlnder is one of a few exceptions. According to our hitch manufacturers, a hitch installed on a 2005 Highlander isn't compatible with weight distribution. This is because the vehicle uses unibody construction instead of a conventional frame. A weight distribution system applies a great deal of leverage and torque to the vehicle frame (much more than what would be applied in a normal...
