Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Land Rover LR3 - Curt

Today on our 2006 Land Rover LR3, we're going to be installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 13456. Let's go ahead and go over our mounting locations that we'll be using. There will be a total of two mounting locations on each side. To gain access to the hole that we'll need to install our hardware through, we're going to need to push this weight. You'll see that there's a larger hole. This will be our access hole to get the hardware into the frame of the vehicle. Next, let's go ahead and point out the hardware that we'll be using.

We'll be using a half inch carriage bolt, a square hole spacer block that's the one inch by three inch square hole spacer block, so it's the smaller of the two. We'll then be installing a half inch hex flange nut once the hitch is installed. For the two bottom mounting locations, again, one on each side, we'll be using a half inch carriage bolt, but this time we'll be using the larger square hole spacer block, so it will be 1.5 inches by three inch square hole spacer block. Again, we'll be installing a half inch flange nut once the hitch is up and in place. We'll begin with the inside mounting location, so we'll be using the longer fish wire and the smaller square hole spacer block. We'll go ahead and take the coiled end of the fish wire, go through the mounting location, then come out the access hole. Again, remember you'll need to push the weight forward to gain access to this hole.

We'll then put the spacer block in place and then thread the carriage bolt onto the end of the pull wire. With both of them in place, we can go ahead and pull the hardware into position by gently pulling on the pull wire, pulling the carriage bolt and spacer block into their correct position. We'll go ahead and repeat the same process over on the passenger side. Next we'll need to go ahead and use the shorter of the two fish wires, we'll go ahead and install our hardware here on the bottom mounting location. Again, one on each side. We'll go ahead and begin over here on the driver's side.

You'll also want to make sure that you are using the larger square hole spacer block at these locations. Next, it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you raise the hitch up into position. We'll go ahead and take each of the pull wires, or fish wires, feed it through the mounting location on the hitch. As we're doing that, we'll then go ahead and raise the hitch up to line up with the carriage bolts that are in the mounting locations on the bottom of the frame. Once our hitch is up into position, we can go ahead and loosely install the flange nut on these two locations. Once we have the hitch supported, we can go ahead and remove the pull or fish wires from the other two mounting locations and install the flange nuts there as well.

Once we have our hitch positioned where we want it, we can go ahead and tighten down the hardware and then torque it to the manufacturer's specification. With that, that will do it for the installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 13456 as installed here on our 2006 Land Rover LR3. .

Land Rover Range Rover

While the product itself looks to well made, the installation process is far from easy. The fishwire process is hit or miss and it is very likely that the average guy will have a lot of difficulty in attempting to install this product on a Range Rover Sport. The access hole is way too small and there is no way to install the product without a successful fishwire experience, (short of removing the bumper cover). I consider myself fairly handy with tools and I am generally successful with other installation procedures. I would not recommend this product to the average person and frankly would prefer to return the product to Etrailer.com 25536

Okay so when i first received the kit and unpacked it and looked at the parts, i thought there is no way this will be 30min (as stated in the instructions). However, all i can say is trust the instructions and the fishing wires, they ARE THE HEAT! Those little fishing wires are life savers. it took me 20 min. Graet kit! Saved over $400 as compared to the Land Rover OEM Hitch. 12619

did your rover come with a wiring harness for the trailer or did you have to hard wire it? was it difficult? thanks

I purchased an aftermarket plug and play, trailer wiring harness, not hard at all.

William, thanks for the feedback! Dave, there are some different aftermarket options available. Just let me know the particular year and model of your Land Rover and I can help you find what's compatible.

Great product. The hitch is well made and exactly as described on the website. Installed on 2013 RR Sport in 45 minutes single-handed in driveway no problem. If you are the type of person that owns 1/2" drive sockets then you will most likely be able to do this install just fine. Video removes any guesswork as well. 253649

Land Rover LR4

The Curt Hitch, item #13456, works great. I was not sure about the fish wire part of the install but after speaking with Matt at etrailer it was easy. From the time the hitch was delivered it took less than 1 hour to install on my Land Rover LR4. Having a extra set of helping hands also made the job easier. 104257

  • Hitch and 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2008 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
  • The first thing you will need is a hitch, for that I would recommend the Curt Hitch part # 13456. This is a 2 inch hitch that would do a great job carrying a 4 bike rack. Once the hitch is installed you would be able to install the Thule Hitching Post Bike rack part # TH934XTR and it would work well for you to carry up to 4 bikes. I attached a review video for you to check out. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also...

  • What Hitch Receiver for a 2012 Range Rover Sport

I have linked the hitch install instructions as well as two helpful articles on hitch installation. Please note that if you have a full-size spare it will not be able to fit back in place after hitch installation.

  • As long as your spare is not a full size spare that is the same size as the wheels and tires on your 2008 Land Rover Range Rover Sport then it will still mount in the factory location. If it is a full size spare then it will not fit and the only recommendation I can make for you would be to try and track down a smaller spare.

  • Hitch-Mount Cargo Carrier Recommendation for 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
  • Your 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport should be equipped with a 2-inch Class III type trailer hitch receiver, like the Curt # 13456 that we offer. In this case you can use any compatible 2-inch Class III hitch cargo carrier. One such hitch carrier is the Rola # 59502 that you referenced. We also offer anti-rattle devices to help reduce play in the hitch. • What Size Spare Tire Fits with Curt Hitch 13456 on 2008 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
  • The two stock tires sizes for your 2008 Land Rover Range Rover Sport are your size 255/50/R19 and size 275/40-20, both of which are about 10-inches wide and 29-inches in diameter. On many vehicles the spare tire that is not full size will be a little donut type. Since that type of spare would simply not work on an off-road vehicle like yours the 175/80/R19 (30-inches in diameter) is not considered to be a full-size spare due to its narrower width so it will fit with the hitch # 13456....
