Today on our 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited we'll be installing the Hidden Hitch, part number 87424. Alright, here are a couple of measurements that will assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the spare tire is 5-1/4 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground gives us 19-1/2 inches of ground clearance. Now, lets go ahead and install the hitch. Alright, my first step is going to be lower the exhaust.
That will make it much easier to get our fasteners in place. There are two hangers that will need to be removed, one on each side of the muffler. To do this we'll take a little spray lubricant and spray each of the hangers before I attempt to remove the isolator. Then using a pry bar or pliers we can go ahead and remove the isolator from the exhaust muffler hanger. There's the driver's side, we'll go ahead and repeat the same process for the passenger's side.
Now we've got the exhaust muffler lowered, we're going to go ahead and take the conical tooth washer with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch and slide it on to our 1/2-inch by 4-1/2 inch bolt. This will go through our hitch, through the bumper structure and then back into the hitch where it will tighten down into the weld nuts into the hitch. Let's go ahead and put our hitch in place and start installing our fastener. I'll install each of my fasteners finger tight until we get them all in place. Now with all our bolts in place we'll go ahead and tighten them down.
Okay, with all our fasteners tightened down we can now go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Alright, with all four fasteners now torqued to specifications we'll go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. Alright, with our exhaust reinstalled that will complete the install of our Hidden Hitch, part number 87424 on our 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. .

It's perfect. The installation was easy and the fit is like an OEM piece. My Wrangler has the Altitude package with 18" wheels and the end of the hitch is about an inch short of the outer edge of the spare wheel.55226

The hitch was every bit as good as I expected. Thanks to your video, it was very easy to install; I did not even take the muffler loose as you show in the video. It only took about 20 minutes to install. The nuts being welded onto the hitch made it even easier. The end of the receiver sticks out about 4" past the bumper, so the ball should just about clear the spare tire. Could not be better. Communication, service, and shipping could not have been better.
