Video Transcript for Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch 87752 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number 87752. This is the Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch Receiver. To see if this is going to fit your particular year, make, and model, you can refer to the vehicle list at the bottom of our product page. The custom fit trailer hitch is going to let you tow a trailer or carry a bike rack, cargo carrier, or other accessories by using your vehicle. It's got the computer aided, fully welded, steel construction that's going to ensure strength and durability. It's also a very easy, bolt on installation.

It's going to come with all the hardware that you need for your installation as well as installation instructions. No welding is required with this hitch. It's also going to come up with lifetime technical support from the experts here at etrailer.com. It's got a really nice, black, powder-coated finish that covers the e-coat base for superior rust protection. Now if you need any other accessories such as a ball mount, pin and clip, those are going to be sold separately. You can find those right here at etrailer.com. The receiver opening is going to measure 2 inches by 2 inches.

This is a class 3 hitch with a maximum gross trailer weight of 5000 pounds. Your maximum gross trailer weight when using the weight distribution system is going to be 7500 pounds. It's going to give us a maximum tongue weight capacity of 750 pounds, and then when using the weight distribution system, that tongue weight is going to remain the same at 750 pounds. Again, it's got all the hardware needed as well as installation instructions. You got your four mount holes up here. It's got the pre-threaded design so the bolts easily go through that and the frame and then they just thread through.

You need to install your washers and your conical tooth washers. You're going to notice that it has two pinhole locations. The larger one here in the back is going to be for a 5/8 inch pin. The one at the front is for a J-pin style pin. You're also going to have your tow hooks.

We take a measurement of those. Those tow hooks are going to measure 2 inches by 1 inch, so plenty of room to get your hook in there. That's going to do it for today's review of part number 87752. This is the Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch Receiver. .

Ordering from etrailer was a great experience - the customer service was fast & friendly. Unfortunately, installing this hitch on an 07 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a factory installed rear tow hook is much more difficult. If your Jeep does NOT have the factory rear tow hook, installation could not be simpler and would take 5-10 mins. The factory rear tow hook has a support that uses one of the mounting holes for the trailer hitch so it has to come out in order to install the hitch. The problem is that the bolt is tack welded on from the factory! Even with an impact wrench (I destroyed a snap on socket trying to muscle the nut off) the bolt isn't coming off. I ended up taking it to a friend who had an air chisel and were able to destroy the nut enough to release the bolt. While you *could* just slip the hitch on at this point, and reattach the tow hook support to the second bolt on the hitch, the instructions make it very clear that the factory tow hook MUST be removed. Well, that requires removing three more bolts (thankfully these aren't tack welded!) and then dropping the bumper to get the hook out. Reinstall bumper, install hitch and done. If you have the tools & ability to remove the tack welded nut the whole install will take about an hour, but in reality most people are going to need to have a mechanic do the install IF they have a factory installed rear tow hook. 141986

Received the package in a timely fashion. The equipment fit almost perfectly. I had to use the spacer washers to get the final little giggle worked out. I initially started on this project by myself but quickly realized that it required at least three hands. It was pretty much impossible to hold up the hitch while pulling the plastic bumper frame away from the cross bar enough to get the long bolts between the plastic and the hitch. Luckily my neighbor came out and the two of us installed it in less than a half hour. Anticipate having to use the spacers on the Jeep Grand Cherokee which is a little bit of a pain in the rear as they either want to slip behind the metal and roll around or you have to use a Flathead and a hammer to tap it into place. I suggest getting some extra strength thread glue to guarantee the bolts never rattle loose from vibration. The electrical was incredibly easy to install. All in all I have to give the company and the product two thumbs up. The only two reasons that I didn't rate it 'Excellent' is because (1) it really did need two people to install and (2) I haven't actually hooked any loads up so I can only assume that will work out well. 7395

Product was excellent quality, but more importantly, the customer service was outstanding. Free, super-fast shipping, numerous emails about the status of the order, and personal communication all contributed to one of the best e-commerce transactions that I have ever completed. If I was forced to nitpick, my only comment would be to suggest that etrailer find an alternative method of securing the box. A large handful of copper staples were used, and while this made for a very secure container for a heavy object, copper is a limited resource and hard on the planet to mine. I suspect over time, you guys have witnessed a few of these boxes come apart in transit, but please consider a more renewable product, glue perhaps, to secure your boxes. Overall, my experience was beyond excellent, and I am a hard critic, being the web marketing director for a 1 billion dollar retailer. I have already recommended etrailer to several friends and will order any trailer supplies needed from you again in the future. 116036

The hitch is exactly what I need, it didn't cost hundreds of dollars like it would've if I would've bought one at a local retailer, I will be putting by mountain bike rack on it to haul my & my friends mountain bikes, I want to personally thank everybody at etrailer.com for everything they did to get my hitch to me as soon as possible even with all of the holiday shipments going on. 111763

I love it, it was easy to install, havent had any problems from it

The hitch is very nice. Heavy plate steel. Doesn't really take away much ground clearance. I might have lost an inch. No trouble at all with the welded on nut threads and the welds are top notch all around. Rated about a thousand pounds more than my Grand Cherokee is rated for towing. I got this to pull a trailer with a yard or two of stone and branches and stuff to the dump. It's going to easily take on the job. 123877

No trouble at all.

every thing about the hitch installation is correct went very fast and was super easy. The only thing that I would like to point out is the removal of the standard J tow hook that comes stock with teh commander. You have to remove the cross brace for the J hook. The cross brace ties driectly into the rear frame where the tow hitch needs to go. The bolt that you need to take out has to be removed from the BUMPER SIDE that is the very rear end. You can not remove the nut because the nut is welded onto the cross brace. 22338

Got this for our 2007 Jeep Commander. The video really helped- make sure you watch it. Took the spare tire out, and about 12 minutes later, I had the hitch installed. You'll need a large socket wrench. The only trouble I had was trying to get the spare tire back into place. Tried and tried, but it just wouldn't fit. Got rather frustrated, and then I realized that the spare measured 265, rather than the 245s that were on the vehicle. No wonder it wouldn't fit. I took the tire to a tire store and traded for a smaller spare, and voila it fit. There was absolutely no way that a size 265 spare tire was going fit in there with the hitch in place. We've carried a cargo tray hitch with this, and it works fine. Etrailer was very prompt with delivery- came in just 2 days. I received several emails with updates. I'm very pleased with both the product and the service. 46985

1) It took a lot longer to install the hitch than stated in the information. The hitch was very loose on the cross member and required the use of the metal fender washers(provided) to take up the gap. Getting them into postion between the cross member and hitch was tedious and time consuming. One washer was not enough and two was alomost to much and required driving them into postion.. Then you had to use a spud wrench to line them up with the holes in the hitch. ( A fix for this would be to have washers with a gap cut out of them so you could drop them down on to the loose bolt while its already in the hole. 2)Also by powder coating the inside of the welded on nuts made the bolts were very hard to run into the nuts. A fix for this would to have bolts in the holes when powder coating the hitch and then remove them prior to shipping. 144796

I really had no idea how large and heavy this was until I got the box. Very solid and the welds look great. This will definitely do the trick. Install is easy but I did need an extra hand or two to hold it in place while I fastened it to the frame. 130866

Still great. No issues at all still looking good and is nice and solid.

From start to finish, shopping at etrailer.com was a pleasure. This is the second hitch I've purchased from them and have received the same quality product and service both times. Selecting the item I needed for my particular vehicle was a snap since etrailer has a simple step by step vehicle selection tool. I was immediately notified via email of my order and tracking status. And most importantly, installation was a breeze. I am not a very handy person, but lifting this hitch into place and placing four bolts and several washers is something I can handle. The hitch is a high quality product. Just lifting it out of the box and feeling the weight of it, one couldn't dispute its quality. I would highly suggest ordering from etrailer.com. You will be as satisfied as I am. Regards, Mark 45964

The hitch is great, but the service was even better. I ordered the hitch for my 2008 Grand Cherokee on Saturday night and the hitch was waiting for me when I got home from work on Tuesday! My son and I installed it in about an hour. I could have probably done it by myself, but it helped to have an extra set of hands to hold things in place while getting the bolts lined up. Lowering the spare tire will give you extra room to work. All the parts (bolts, washers) were included and everything fit perfectly. Installation is so simple that you probably don't need the instructions but the instructions were clear and show the two rivets to temporarily remove to loosen the bumper facia while installing the hitch. Final product is very neat and clean. 125342

Fantastic product! I now look like I actually use my Jeep for manly things like camping and crushing rocks... It is very solid hitch and I am certain that I will not have any problems. I will be more worried about hair loss in the next ten years than I will be about this hitch; and I can barely run a comb through my hair now!!! It is so easy to install... I had it done in 10 minutes. These guys know what they are doing. I also purchased the wiring harness for my Jeep and installing that was easier than spinning in a circle twenty times and falling down... I will definitely be coming here first for any other hauling needs I may have. Heck, I'll come here just so I can read all the installation instructions. Thank You!!! 107940

I recently ordered and installed this product from etrailer. It seems very sturdy and well built. Etrailer was excellent to deal with, with an email on the status of my order about 15 minutes after placing it. Install was just a matter of dropping the spare tire and tightening four bolts. It does seem as if the hitch should have just a little more drop to it as it does pull on the bumper slightly but not noticeable unless you crouch and look at it. Overall excellent experience with etrailer and this product. 131498

This Hitch bolted up fairly effortlessly. With my Jeep the rear cross member had a seam that seamed to have some built up weld on it or something that didn't quite let the washers, that came with the kit as shims, to work. Would have been nice to have some sort of clip on shim instead of the washers this would have been easier than trying to tape them in place. Over all my review is very positive, took me all of 30 minutes to install it. Got the wiring harness on order as well. 157307

Just installed the hitch on my 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Fit great and was relatively easy to install. I installed by myself and had almost no trouble, very straightforward. The only issue is that the plastic rivet clips on the bumper won't line up to be reattached to the frame after the job was done. This however really poses no problem, the bumper is secure against the hitch even without the rivets and does NOT rattle, and looks just as it did prior to the job. 26573

It's a great hitch and installation was as easy as the other reviewers said it would be! The hitch itself is hefty like you want your hitch to be... the welds are clean and solid, and the coating/paint is good and thick. I installed it on my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Once I dropped the spare tire out of the way, the hitch literally just slides into place and you just bolt it on with four 3/4" bolts. Done. I also got the wiring harness (118394) which was just as easy to install. Watch the video and you'll be ready to go. Pop off the brake lights, plug the harness in, and then run the wires. Anyone can do this. Good luck and safe towing, - Asi 14811

My hitch came in one I was at work, when I got off at 6 I looked and it and decided to put it on that night. The install was straight forward, the instructions where easy to ready. The hardest part was getting all eight washers into place. I did a old mechanic trick. I used some tape, and taped the washers to the hitch before I put it up into the space where the hitch goes, it took two tries to get it up there with all eight washers where they needed to be. I like the look and how strong it feels. I put the wiring harness on at the same time. Took me form start to finish 45 mins. Over all easy install and a good product. 212090

I found the hitch kit was well thought out. The washers that came with the hitch were needed and taping them together did help as I needed two for some bolts. I did have a little trouble with one of the bolts not lining up and I also had an issue with some bolts needing one washer while others needed 2. The interior ones needed two but the outer ones could only fit one. I think I made the mistake of trying to install it first without the washers and may have caused the issues above. All in all its tight and not going anywhere. I towed about 5500 lbs with it a few weeks back and it worked great. 208738

Easy install as I didn't have tow hooks that needed to be removed. I was able to install it solo in about a 1/2 hour. The bumper fascia touches the hitch slightly but not an issue at all. 217545

With the exception of dropping my socket wrench on my big toenail (OUCH), this installation was incredibly easy. I don't know what a couple of other commenters were talking about not being able to hold the hitch receiver up while putting in the bolts. I had my 10 year old son help on Fathers Day. He handed me the bolts ;-) what a good boy. 20 minutes, including the time it took to lower the spare tire. Hint to others, after install with the spacers, the spare tire is very tight... May want to forgo spacers, or try to put them in back, the 2-4 mm might help. 44533

Had been quoted cost of $150+ from dealer with $250+ for installation. Found this website, easily located the item for my daughter's 2007 Jeep at cost below dealer, placed order. Imagine my surprise when it was on the porch 3 days later! Watched the video clip demonstrating installation. Seemed simple enough.....WAS simple enough. Piece of cake. My wife commented that there was not a single expletive during the whole install. The lighting harness was equally easy. Great product! Great Company. I'll be back for future needs. 18545

by: David A.03/20/2014

I just installed this and it was just as easy as they said. The clips on the bumper are easy to get off and worked just fine reusing them even. I had to play with how many washers it needed(1 side needed 2, the other only needed 1) but once I got that right, it went on and was installed in probably half an hour. Again, a second person just to pull the bumper out and hand you tools while you are under the car is a definite must, but went on easily and looks great. Now I just have to find something to haul with it. 121407

We just got done installing the hitch after 3 liesurely hours rather than the "20 minutes" advertised. Although we had some reservations as to how structurally suited our Jeep's underpinnings for this foot long perpendicular to the road design might be, the combination of half inch welded metal hitch, four half inch bolts, a hand full of shims, and excellent instructions has allayed all concerns. When another 3 hours opens up, we'll get to the "20 minute" installation of our C56009 wiring hook-up 69798

Mounted it Sunday, up and towing on Monday. Great unit, easy to install with the detailed instructions to my vehicle. Should note there is a little spare tire rub when dropping the spare with this unit attached to my '07 Commander, but nothing that's a major issue. Also got the great wiring harness which was easy to install. Got a 3'rd party tow bar and ball, meets my trailer exactly at a perfect level. Slam dunk for any Commander owner who doesn't want to cut the bumper. 27272

We are preparing to move from Washington State to North Carolina. We had checked on getting a hitch installed by U-Haul and it was going to be right around $360.00. Did a search and found etrailer.com. My husband is deployed so my 18 year old son and I took a shot and installed the hitch and the wiring harness. Very easy and great videos that help tremendously with the installation. I would recommend to anyone and it was a great mother/son project. 82046

Hidden Hitch and wiring harness for 2007 Jeep Commander arrived quicker than I anticipated. The video for hitch installation is easy to follow and makes the install easier to do, it was much less than the 30 minutes install time. The wiring harness also is easy. The hardest part was drilling the hole for the ground wire and that was nothing. The right products to do the job, fair price, and delivered ahead of time. Great job!! 7305

I purchased this hidden hitch for my 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee and am very pleased with it! Installation was easy and took less than a 1/2 hour with basic tools. It was priced reasonably through etrailer.com and free shipping was included, making it a great deal. Hitch is great, as described, and easy to install. I've got a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the OEM tow hook. The tow hook removal is the worst part: (3) easy-access bolts, and (1) not-so-easy-access bolt. The tough bolt is the cross-brace, which can only be loosened from the bolt-head on the rear-facing side of the vehicle. I used an 18 mm wrench for these bolts. Other than the tow hook removal, it's a piece-of-cake! 39449

I received the receiver hitch and wiring harness in a very timely manner. Installation of the hitch itself was very straightforward and very simple. Having read reviews from previous purchasers knowing to snip the cable ties to allow enough length made the installation much simpler. Routing the wires was a bit of a challenge and one thing that could improve installation are a few more cable ties to secure the wiring. 101495

Excellent product! Never imagined that adding a Class III hitch to our Jeep could be so easy. It's built like a tank! With the installation video provided by etrailer.com I went in feeling like I'd done the job before. Hardest part for me was popping off the bumper fasteners--they were kind of stubborn. Otherwise it's pretty much turning a socket! Got here fast and the price was right! 70924

This hitch is very solid and well built hitch. If you have tow hooks on your Jeep Grand Cherokee you may have to remove the bumper flashing to get to two hidden bolts. Allow at least an hour + to remove all tow hook bracket bolts. After the prep stage of removing the tow hook bracket and removing a few plastic bumper flashing push pins, this was a very easy install. 36298

Order was accurate and fast. Got an upgrade on the shipping at no cost to me. My wife and I installed hitch in about 25 minutes just as stated. The cargo carrier I also ordered was easy to assemble and seems as rock solid as the hitch. Can't wait to try them out in a few weeks on a trip to the Outer Banks. Thanks etrailer! 51530

I realized it helped being from the same state that the product was from but I have literally never seen a general delivery arrive in less than 24 hours until I ordered the receiver and wiring harness from here. I had it in mind that it would take at least 3 to 5 days but was shocked to see it already here the next day. 123587

Ask the Experts about this Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch
Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • What Trailer Hitches Fit a 2007 Jeep Commander Rocky Mountain Edition
  • Since you have a 2007 Jeep Commander Rocky Mountain Edition, the CURT Trailer Hitch, # 13414, will not fit. So the directions are correct, it excludes the Rocky Mountain Edition. But we do have 2 hitches that do not exclude the Rocky Mountain Edition. You can use Hidden Hitch, # 87752, or Draw-Tite, # 75338. For a ball mount, ball, and pin and clip, I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, # 989900. It includes 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag. For...

  • What Weight Distribution And Sway Control for Jeep Commander Towing A 7,000 Pound Car Hauler
  • The first thing to do before you start towing is to always check the owners manual or the car dealer for the GCVWR (Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating) of your vehicle. The GCVWR is the maximum allowable weight capacity for your vehicle, including the vehicle, trailer and contents. You will need to check the hitch on your vehicle to make sure it has the correct weight capacity. Also, if you can add weight distribution to your hitch, to tow your 7,000 lb. trailer. The class or weight...

  • Trailer Hitch, Drawbar, Hitch Ball, and Trailer Wiring Recommendations for a 2008 Jeep Commander
  • I can certainly point out everything you will need to tow the boat with your 2008 Jeep Commander. First, you will need a hitch. There are several available but I recommend going with a Class III hitch rated for weight distribution because you never know what you might be towing in the future. I would go with Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch, # 87752. This is a Class III, 2 inch trailer hitch, capable of 500 pounds tongue weight capacity and 5,000 pounds gross trailer weight. When used with...

  • Will Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch # 87752 Fit a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rocky Mountain Edition
  • The Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch, # 87752, is designed to fit all models of the 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee except for the SRT8 models. The hitch installs around the rear bumper beam, so the full size spare that is part of the Rock Mountain Edition should not be a factor. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a link to a video showing a typical installation for you. If you are planning on doing some towing, I recommend etrailer Ball Mount Kit, # 989900, which comes with...

  • Availabillity of a Hitch for the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Rocky Mountain Edition
  • The Curt instructions do say that their hitch will not fit on the Rocky Mountain Edition vehicles. I spoke to my contact and was told that there is a bumper bracket that interferes with their hitch on that model. I checked with my contact at Reese, Draw-Tite and Hidden hitch and was told that their hitches will fit the Rocky Mountain edition. You can choose from any of their hitches on the page linked below. I would recommend the Hidden Hitch Class III Trailer Hitch, item # 87752, which...

  • What is the towing capacity of Hidden Class III trailer hitch and will fit my 2009 Jeep Commander
  • The weight capacities of the Hidden Hitch Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 87752 are 5000 pounds towing with 500 pounds tongue weight and if you have a weight distribution hitch 7500 pounds with 750 pound tongue weight. This is an excellent hitch for your Jeep Commander and will be more than adequate for a four wheeler on a small utility trailer. With this hitch you will also have the option of using many different accessories such as bike racks and cargo carriers. The hitch...

  • Is Trailer Hitch Installation on a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee the Same as in the Video for a 2007
  • Installation of the Hidden Hitch trailer hitch # 87752 will be nearly identical on your 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee as it is in the video for the 2007 model. I have included a link to the video and a link to the installation instructions for you to view. The 2007 and 2008 models are from the same generation and are built on the same platform and have nearly the same design. Where it matters in terms of a hitch is where it mounts to the vehicle. In this case there are no significant changes...

  • How To Determine if a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a 7-Way
  • If you look at the back of your 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee and see a wiring connector that looks like the Tow Ready Wiring harness part # 20135 then you have a 7-way. Another option you could have is a 4-way which would look like part # 18172, or you might not have any connector at all. To add a 4-way you would first want the Tow Ready Wiring harness part # 118394. If you needed to upgrade to a 7-way you would need the 4-Way to 7-Way adapter part # 37185 after installing the #118394. For...

  • Should I Choose a Class II or Class III for my 2008 Jeep Commander Sport 3.7L V6
  • We always recommend choosing a 2 inch hitch, Class III or higher, if one is available. As you pointed out, your Commander will have a lower towing capacity than other models and the hitch will be capable of more than the vehicle. If your vehicle can handle more than 3,500 pounds total trailer weight, you will have already limited yourself with the 1-1/4 inch Class II. Additionally, there are far more accessories available for 2 inch hitches than 1-1/4 inch hitches. This includes hitch covers,...

Lower Class hitches do require a specific ball mount so for many of them we will include it.
