Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Hyundai Tucson - HIdden Hitch

Today on our 2015 Hyundai Tucson we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Hidden Hitch custom fit class three trailer hitch receiver. Part number is 87612. Here's what our hitch is going to look like when we get it installed on the vehicle. As you can see, it's pretty clean looking. Really the only thing you see sticking down is going to be the backside of that receiver tube opening and the receiver tube itself. You're going to have a small flange right here with three pre-drilled holes.

Got one, two, and three. If you want to mount wiring or if you want to mount a 4-pole to it, should have a good tab there that's been welded on to do that with. Our main pinhole is going to be the 5/8 pinhole here a little bit further in. That's going to be for securing our ball mount, bike racks, cargo carriers, whatever it is we plan on using. The one just in front of that is a little smaller diameter. That's for use in conjunction with the j-pin stabilization system.

We've got a 2" by 2" receiver tube opening. That works great with any of the class three bike racks, cargo carriers, things like that that we'd want to put in. As you can see, we've got good room on each side, especially if you don't mount any wiring over here. If we're doing one of the anti-rattle devices or locking hitch pins, we shouldn't have any issue getting that in place. Now as far as towing goes, we're going to have good safety chain connection points on each side to get those secured. We're going to have a 525 pound tongue weight rating.

That's going to be the maximum downward force we can put here at our receiver tube opening. We're going to have a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight rating. That's going to be the total of our trailer and then everything else that we've got loaded up on it. If we go into a weight distribution setup our tongue weight's going to stay the same at 525. We're going to have a 5,250 pound trailer weight rating at that point.

Of course we do want to look into the owners manual of the Tucson to make sure it can handle those loads. If not, we're just going to use whichever of those numbers are the lowest. Now a couple of measurements that you're going to find helpful in selecting your ball mount, bike rack, or maybe hitch cargo carrier will be from the ground to the inside top edge of our receiver tube opening we've got about 13-1/4". Then from the center of our hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of our bumper it's about 4. Now the first thing we're going to do for our installation is just take a safety strap here, just a regular cam buckle strap. We're going to go around the underside of the exhaust. Then we'll cinch that down. Then we'll remove an exhaust hanger located on each side of the muffler here in the middle. We've got one here on the driver side and another one right here on our passenger side. We can use a little bit of spray lubricant just to allow us to slide that off a little bit easier. A lot of times you can just grab it behind it and pull towards you, get it to pop off. Sometimes you'll have to use a little screwdriver or pry bar or something. You can see that's loosened up. We'll just let a little bit of slack onto in our strap, allow that to come down a little bit. Just make it easier to get to our access holes. We're going to have two on each side, one located here and one just behind it. Then we'll have them in the exact same spot over there on the driver side. What we're going to do is spray a little lubricant in there. Then we'll use our nylon tube brush, part number 814092, just to clean those out. We're trying to clear our threads of any undercoating or any dirt that might have been thrown up in there while it's been heading down the road. Do that on both sides. We'll just check to be sure we can thread our bolt up in each of them and then we'll grab our hitch and get it raised into position. Now we can raise our hitch up over our exhaust here. Let's start one of our bolts on each side. Now when doing this, it's a good idea to have an extra set of hands to help you hold up the other side of your hitch. Get that one started about three or four turns. Then we can come to the other side and do this one. Once where those started we'll allow it to rest there when we get our others started. Now we'll just take a quick look to be sure we have our hitch centered. Then we'll snug down our fasteners. Then we can torque them to the specifications we can find in our instructions. Now we can raise our exhaust back into position. We're just going to use a little more spray lubricant. You'll see it will slide in pretty easy. Now we can just pull down our strap. With everything back in place and secure, that's going to complete today's installation of the Hidden Hitch custom fit class three trailer hitch receiver, part number 87612, on our 2015 Hyundai Tucson.

This hitch was for my 2014 Hyundai Tucson. It arrived as promised and in excellent condition. The muffler needed to be dropped in order to install this hitch. No issues with that. A little WD-40 and the muffler popped right off the hangers. I installed this hitch by myself while lying on the ground. No lift, no jack stands, no additional pair of hands. I had asked my wife to come out to hold up one side while I attached the other. Since she was heavily involved in the 2nd hour of "fixing her hair", I continued on my own. I held up one end of the hitch with my feet while using my hands to bolt in the other end. Since half the weight was now supported by bolts, it was easy to reach over to the other side and install those bolts. In all, installation was fast and easy. Oh yes...my wife's hair looked great too. Thanks for asking. 125410

Were glad to know that the hitch install went well, even if you had to make it work all by your lonesome. Wed love to see pictures of the final result. Hitch or hair, either one works.

Its been a year since we installed this hitch on our Tucson. We use it for a 2-bike rack and it has performed as expected. I did need to install a collar to lock it down to stop movementbouncing. That works very well too. The muffler is very close to the hitch, almost touching, and I can occasionally hear them bump together under certain conditions. Not a big deal so I havent felt the need to modify anything.

Happy to hear you are pleased with your hitch and bike rack. If you feel that you would like to make some modifications regarding the clearance between your hitch and the exhaust please feel free to check out this informational article. Thanks again for the follow up and have a great day!

First of all, I must say how satisfied I am with Etrailer.com! Super-fast shipping (2 days!) and service personnel who KNOW what they're TALKING about! For me, relatively a novice at any DIY vehicle modifications beyond toolboxes, mudguards, etc., that was just what I needed. The prices are great too, as good as any you will find out there, especially for the package deal, which is what I got. I looked at buying a hitch locally and having it installed, and the cheapest I could get it done for was $450. Plus, I wouldn't have gotten a ball mount, ball, or wiring bracket with that deal. Here on Etrailer.com, for less than $300 shipped, I got the whole package WITH a stainless steel 2" ball. And, the valuable experience and satisfaction of doing the whole thing myself. The project installation videos on this website are INVALUABLE! Made the whole job much easier. Anyway, enough gushing, the hitch itself is of a much better quality than the one I used to have on my truck from the factory. That one rusted after a couple of years, and though fully functional, never looked very nice. I put this new one on our 2015 Kia Sportage, and the fit and finish are superb. A nice glossy black powder-coat on all the metal, plus, being a hidden-type design, it only shows the actual receiver opening below the bumper. Very nice! I was desperate to get a hitch on this new vehicle, since I traded in my F150 to get it, thus losing all my towing and hauling capabilities without a trailer. Now, I have some of that back again, just have to buy a trailer next. Fortunately, we have one at work I can use anytime I need it until I can get one for my family. I would definitely shop Etrailer again in the future. 214811

Prior to buying this hitch, I was misinformed about hitches, I thought they were permanent items welded to your vehicle frame. After doing a search online, I came upon etrailer and read the reviews. The reviews were all very good so I decided to take a chance and it was a good chance I took. Installation was very easy, took me and a buddy about 10 minutes. I sprayed silicon on the muffler hangars and cleaned the bolt holes ahead of time. At nearly 40 pounds, it's not too heavy but when you're on your back trying to balance it, that's where I can see another set of hands coming in handy but if I didn't have help, I could've also done it with a small vehicle jack. I did not have to raise my vehicle, Hyundai Tucson, and just laid underneath the vehicle and pushed the hitch up and hand threaded the bolts. We did take the muffler off the hangar on the passenger side but the driver side muffler hangar did not need to be taken off. We each did our side, I tightened it with a ratchet and then torqued to specification. Great product at a great price and easy to install. Now the trailer brake light is next. 153187

Got the Hitch in 3 days, had an update on shipping in less than 10 minutes from the time the order was placed. These guys do a great job. This particular hitch is very easy to install, it took me and my brother maybe 10 minutes to have the hitch installed and ready to go. You will not be disappointed if your looking for a hitch for your 2012 Sportage don't hesitate to order from these guys. 58174

Very pleased with this hitch! Installed on my 2013 Kia Sportage in approx 45 minutes. Had the help of my father in law to hold one end of the hitch in place while I installed the other end. Install requires detaching the muffler from its rubber mounts. This was made much easier with a little WD-40 sprayed on the ends of the mounting pins, and a small pry bar. The hitch itself is low-profile; a friend commented on how discreet it looks. It's a great design for the Sportage. Immediately connected a 4-bike rack to the hitch, and am very pleased with the whole setup. Last thing I need to buy is a locking pin that will better secure the bike rack, as well as make its removal easier. Another very satisfied customer! 115466

2 nd order from etrailer after a buddy of mine told me about the site. shipping was fast, and received several updates on status of order. Hitch went in after i dropped exhaust, in about 10 minutes. Great customer service, great prices, great product, perfect directions. Customer for life. 67628

The only thing I would update would be the exhaust knocks into the corner of the hitch while driving. Its only a small noise, and I have tried to put something to hold the exhaust in place with no success. Other than that product is fine, and dealing with your company is always a pleasure. The fact that you are checking up is amazing. Thanks for your time!

Most of the times exhaust and hitch contact is just a result of the looser tolerances used for exhaust hangers since the system moves so much anyway. It is not a common problem, but it is not rare either. We wrote up a Tech Article with all the tricks that the guys in our shop use when they run into it. Check out the link.

This company provided exactly what I had hoped for. I have a 2012 Kia Sportage, and purchased a trailer hitch(87612), ball mount(2923), ball(19247), and wiring(118526). It all arrived quickly, and exactly as ordered (they even taped things together inside in big bags so parts don't fall out if the box gets some damage in travel - which mine did, but understandable with a 50lb box like this). I installed it myself (including the wiring following the excellent video). It was all easy to install, and the price was about a third that of the dealer! Everything about etrailer has been perfect. 33404

I installed the hitch in about 30 minutes. The instructions mentioned removing the muffler supports to allow lowering for clearance to allow installation. However, after trying unsuccessfully to remove the rubber muffler supports, I found that I was able to wrangle the mount past the muffler tail pipe without having to mess with the muffler. I did it alone and used a hydraulic jack to hold the driver's side up while I installed the passenger's side. Simple four bolt installation. E-trailer also provided very quick delivery with standard shipping. 78860

Hitch fit absolutely perfect!! The hardest part was lowering the exhaust. The rubber grommets attaching the muffler to the frame were not that easy to slide the pins out of. Once lowered (and caution : make sure you have it supported; I used a bungee cord. If you don't, the exhaust will just fall and serious damage could occur), the actual hitch fit like a glove. Less than 10 minutes. The exhaust was raised and pins back in easily; it was getting the pins out of the grommet that took some time. 67444

I just got my hitch and within less than 20 min. I had the hitch installed on my 2012 Kia Sportage. The brand name is Hidden Hitch for a reason! The only thing visible at all really is the square that you put the hitch ball into. The hitch is very sturdy and wasn't complicated at all to install. I will definitely order from etrailer.com again!! Actually I'm going to order the trailer wiring component very soon from here. Shipping for this hitch was actually free and very fast. 34118

I have a 2013 Hyundai Tuscan, I installed the wiring harness and hitch in about 3 to 4 hours. The most difficult thing was figuring out how to lower the muffler (wd-40 by the way) and getting on the inside of the back pannel with out tearing anything up. Over all not difficult. The instructions are helpful for small things so that you are not doing more work than nessary. The product was advertised as writen on the website. Great product over all! 71278

Perfect fit, no drilling required. Thought about installing it myself, but didn't have a torque wrench. Instead took it to local garage where lifting the vehicle up on a rack made the job much easier. Took about 20 minutes to install. Lowering the exhaust was the only thing that made this a 20 minute job instead of a 5 minute job. It is "hidden" as advertised, the hitch receiver is the only part visible. 42355

Just installed this hitch receiver on a 2012 KIA Sportage and the bolt holes lined up perfectly. The most difficult part was removing the muffler hanger to fit the hitch bar between the bumper and the tail pipe. The installation took 30 minutes as advertised. Don't forget to thread the bolts into the frame before you begin to clean out the welded nuts. Well built hitch receiver! 63520

Usually a bit skeptical about ordering on-line. But - eTrailer customer support was even better than expected. Kept me informed from start to delivery. Product was delivered as promised. Awesome.trailer hitch bolted to car perfectly.did it in my driveway in under 30 minutes by myself.if you have a couple of jack stands to hold hitch up while you line it up and get bolts started is a big help. I haven't installed a bike rack yet so I don't know how well the hitch works but the installation of the hitch itself was a breeze and totally worth the money! It took two men and about 15 minutes to install -- beware, it's quite heavy! etrailer also expedited my shipping so I received it sooner than expected.
