Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2014 Honda Odyssey - Hidden Hitch

Today on our 2014 Honda Odyssey, we will be installing the hidden hitch trailer hitch part number 90153. Now, this is what the hitch looks like installed on our van. Now, well give you a couple of measurements that will help you select accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is about 11 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge and bumper is about 7 inches. Now, lets go show you how its installed. The first step is going to be, remove this panel right here. Were going to do that by removing these three fasteners.

We also need to remove this ex head bolt up here and this screw up here. After the hardwares remove, our panel just drops out of place. One thing were going to do here before we get ready to install the hitch, were going to clean out the threads and the holes that were going to mount our hardware to. To do that, spray some kind of lubricant up there, take a tooth brush. Just brush them out. Now, this tooth brush were using is also available on our website. Its part number 814092.

Were going to repeat the process over here on the passenger side. This is the hardware well be using. Just make sure the tech placed towards the hitch, place it up underneath there, and the bolts going to pop-up just like that through the washer and through the mounting hole on our hitch. Well do this for the other three mounting locations. Now, well put our hitch up into place. This is where it helps to have a second set of hands available to help you out. If you dont, you can always set it up on the exhaust and you got the mounting bracket right there, so it will hold it in place.

Well get a hardware and get this side set-up.The hardware in place and only and-right on the driver side. Were going to move over the passenger side and we will repeat the process. Now with the hardware in place with none of the bolts down or the bolts tighten down, well go ahead and torque them down to the recommended amount in the instructions. With the hitch secured in place and the bolts torque down, the last step is to put in the cover that we removed first. Just reinstall this the same way that it came out. That will conclude todays installation of the hidden hitch trailer hitch part number 90153 on our 2014 Honda Odyssey.

With only 4 bolts, it should be easy to install this hitch, and it is. Look at the video and you will have no difficulty. I drove the back wheels of my Ody up on some 4" high wooden ramps to get sufficient clearance to remove the rubber exhaust hangers. Spraying the rubber hangers with silicon lubricant makes removing them much easier. Since I was working by myself, I used gallon paint cans and some short pieces of 2x4 to get the two ends of the hitch held up just below the frame, so I could start the bolts on each side without having to hold up the hitch while doing it. Note that the instructions which come with the hitch call for an 18mm wrench/socket for tightening the bolts, when the actual wrench/socket required is a 19mm. The hitch looks sturdy and well made, and fits closely under the rear of the Ody. Finally, the personnel at etrailer were very quick to ship the hitch, and I got keeping me informed of the status. I am a very pleased customer, and hightly recommend etrailer.com. 8014

Very easy installation. Not easy finding the 1/2" nylon tube brush, wish when buying from etrailer it would show up in the additional items you might need. Came scratched up and not due to shipping, scratches was under rap around cardboard on crossbar. This tells me it was to the packers knowledge this was sent to me this way. A little disturbing since it shows on the Van. Easier not using ramps, less lifting and slid over tail pipe without removing anything. Probably spent 40 min cleaning out one of the weld nuts on van and the rest was a 10 min job. Shipping was fast and tracking was great. 38745

I backed the van up on ramps, cleaned the holes with WD40 and a round brush, slipped the hitch up over the exhaust (no need to remove from the hangers) and installed the bolts and torqued to spec. I think it took me about 10 minutes to do the hitch install. No real need to remove the tailpipe from the hangers, just need to move it to the side to get at the bolts with the ratchet and torque wrench. Very nicely made hitch! I wish I would have known the hitch comes with a rubber plug to keep the crap out, as I ordered one with it. I have 2 of them now. 17918

I purchased this to accommodate a bicycle rack on my Honda Odyssey. For this it works perfectly. Due to the design of the top of the hatch on recent Odysseys, they cannot take a hanging type bike rack. Dealing with etrailer is easy. Delivery was quick. The video instructions on their web site were perfect. Our bikes are happy; I'm happy. ;-) 221183

This item is well-made and we recieved it without any issues or problems. We are a family of 4 and needed this for a bike-rack we are getting. With our minivan not have a hitch already this was step one of our solution. We did not mount it ourselves, but had a automotive place do it for us for a nominal fee. 20218

Very easy to install. Already used it to pull a trailer to CT. Only comment I have is once I tightened the 4 bolts the hitch was in contact with the rear bumper and it pushes up on it some. No damage but over time it may chafe on the plastic bumper cover. Otherwise very satisfied with the hitch. 79134

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Which Trailer Hitch # 90153 or # 87479 is Less Noticeable on a 2007 Honda Odyssey
  • All of the hitches for the 2007 Honda Odyssey (see link) are manufactured with basically the same construction. The only real difference is the size of the receiver opening. A 1-1/4 inch opening will be smaller and less noticeable than a 2 inch receiver opening. That being said, I would select the 2 Inch receiver opening whenever the option is available. You will not be able to tow more but you will have a much wider range of accessories to choose from, now and in the future as your...

  • Difference Between The CURT Wiring Harness and Tow Ready Wiring Harness for the 2011 Honda Odyssey
  • The main difference between the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118521 and the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56118 is that the # 118521 can be used on Odysseys with backup sensors, whereas the # C56118 will not work on vehicles with back up sensors. Both of these products will work well on your 2011 Honda Odyssey, but if you want additional circuit protection I would recommend the # 118521 as it has 3 fuses compared to only 1 fuse of the # C56118. If you would still like a replacement hardware kit for hitch 90737, you can order by clicking on the part number below (RHK). The installation instructions for the custom-fit hitches for your vehicle do not mention needing an exhaust hanger, however, they do say to temporarily lower the vehicle exhaust...

  • Trailer Hitch with Best Ground Clearance and Trailer Wiring for a 2015 Honda Odyssey
  • In terms of ground clearance, the Class II hitches for your 2015 Honda Odyssey will have slightly better clearance than the Class III hitches. From the ground up to the bottom of the receiver it will be approximately 9-1/2 inches. This isn't much but vans sit low to the ground so it is to be expected. As far as the factory hitch It is probably in a comparable position but it is possible that it is slightly higher or lower. For a trailer hitch you can use # 90153. This hitch is rated...
