Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2011 GMC Acadia

Today we will be working on a 2011 GMC Acadia. We will be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 75528. This will also apply to Hidden Hitch part number 87435. Here are a couple measurements that will assist you in ing accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is 4 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 17 inches. This will assist you when choosing accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. Now lets go ahead with the installation. :36

These will be our two passenger rear attachment points. Our first step is going to be lowering the exhaust. We are working with a dual exhaust system so we are going to have two hangers on each side. One on the inboard side and one on the outboard side of each muffler. They are going to be identical. The first thing we are going to do is spray lubricant for easy removal and reinstallation. Then we will repeat the same steps on the driver side. Before I lower my exhaust I want to put a safety strap on it to make sure it does not down too far. Now we are ready to remove our hangers. Now that we have the passenger side done, we will repeat the same process on the driver side. 1:26

Now that we have our exhaust lowered to get to our attachment points, we are going to need to remove this fascia piece here. In order to do that there are two tabs, one on either side to turn. Then the fascia piece will just fall away. This will not be reinstalled later. Before I try and put my hitch into place, I am going to clean out the threads of our attachment point just for the ease of installation of our new hardware. Hit it with the spray lubricant, and then use the 1/2 inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092. We are just going to clean any debris out of the threads before we try and install our hardware. Lets go ahead and give it a test fit with our bolt, the bolt screws in easily. So we know our rear attachment point is good. Lets try our forward attachment point, it is also good. We will repeat the same process on the driver side. 2:21

Now that we have all of our attachment points cleared out we can put our hitch into place. We are going to loosely install our bolt and conical tooth washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch. Now that I have these two started on the passenger side I am going to repeat the same process on the driver side. Now we need to do our two bumper attachment points. First we need to take our spacer and put it between the hitch and the bumper. Then because we do not have any weld nuts like we do in the frame, we are going to use these handle nuts as our attachment point. Now that we have all our fasteners in place, finger tight we are going to run them down. Now that we have all our hardware run down on the passenger side, we will repeat the same process on the driver side. Now that we have all of our fasteners run down we can go ahead and torque to specifications. Now that we have all our hardware torqued to specifications, we will trim off the handle from the handle nuts. I will be using a pair of tin snips to cut it off. Now that we have our handle nuts trimmed, we can put our exhaust into place and reinstall our exhaust hangers. With the exhaust reinstalled we can go ahead and remove our safety strap. That completes the installation of Draw-Tite part number 75528.

I have a 2013 GMC Acadia and wanted to add a hitch to haul my snowmobiles and add a bike rack. I ordered the hitch and wiring harness (product 118614) on a Sunday and the products arrived Thursday. My father and I were able to mount the hitch in 20 minutes and did not need to take the exhaust of the brackets, which saved us some time. As others have stated, the bumper fascia on a 2013 Acadia can be re-installed over the hitch without issue. The wiring harness was easy to install as well. Very pleased with etrailers service and installation videos, which aided in making the installation quick. Would definitely order from e-trailer again. 121245

Product has been great. It takes 15 seconds to remove the fascia off the back of my Acadia and install the hitch ballmount or a bike receiver. Ive used the hitch to trailer my snowmobile and four wheeler without issue. Ive also had no issue with the lights/wiring harness

No problem putting on the Hitch our 2012 Enclave. My wife did not want the hitch to show. Done some research and found that GM has a fisacia insert that takes the place of the one you remove. GM part # 25775358. A little pricey but worth it. 107818

Just got a 2014 Enclave. Thinking to buy the same hitch. Based on the video, it seems the orig. rear fascia door can be re-installed back. Why did you not put back the orig. one? Its not possible or you dont like the orig. fascia style? Or, only 20132014 enclave fascia door can be reinstalled? Thanks.

comment by: tom g - 12/17/2013

Tom, I think part of your response got cut off. The Enclave received a bit of a facelift for the 2013 model year and the changes to rear bumper cover allow for the original cover to be re-installed over a hitch on 2013 and newer. 2012 and older models require a different panel to accommodate a hitch.

Patrick B - 12/19/2013

You are correct, or at least that was my understanding from Pecks Trailer Hlitch installation. I just know my fascia would not go back on, the hitch is very hard to see anyway Just my wifes car and she did not want the hitch to show.

comment by: tom g - 12/20/2013

Thanks all for the comments. Spring is coming. Ordered and got the hitch installed on my 2014 Enclave. the orig. fascia door can be re-installed wo any problem.Happy!

I put this hitch on in about 45 minutes single-handedly -- no, really, I am 7 weeks out from rotator cuff surgery and I found it easy to install using mostly my non-dominant arm. It's that easy! On the Traverse, it is truly a "hidden hitch" -- see pics. I used this hitch in conjunction with the Curt C56245 wiring harness and TrailerMate TM76470 mounting bracket. Each of those products work perfectly with this hitch. I would not change anything, this is a perfect setup. 206111

Super product with wonderful video installation instructions. Etrailer does a great job in providing a product that matches up with your vehicle and easy to follow video instructions for installation. Well done!! Product went on easily and fit perfectly. I used the no-drill mount bracket to place the 4 pin connector down and underneath the vehicle. The electric connection wiring harness was very easy to install. I was able to put on the plastic cover that came with the Traverse and everything is hidden. Wonderful product and wonderful company who by the way gave me express shipping at no extra charge. Nice job etrailer. 134396

It is working great. Very happy!!!

My family's bikes won't all fit inside my 2011 Acadia, so I bought this hitch for a hitch-mount bicycle rack. It fit perfectly. Installation was very easy and straight-forward. Watching the videos beforehand really helped - and the install went right as the video showed. Backing the vehicle up on ramps also helped with clearance to work under the car. I bought the Hidden Hitch brand vs. the Draw Tite because the receiver looked to be a little shorter and would not stick out as far past the bumper. Excellent decision, because GMC's optional Trailer Hitch Closeout fits perfectly covers the new hitch receiver for a very clean, finished look. (This part from GMC replaces the bumper panel that all the install videos say to remove and won't be used - GMC part 19244180). One minor complaint: the hitch could used some more protection in the shipping box. There was no padding or protection in the box. As a result, the paint chipped off a few spots (chain retaining rings) down to bare metal. A bit of spray primer and black paint fixed it, but some more protection in the box would prevent damage and future corrosion. 45087

Ordered the hitch from etrailer Tuesday night, the day we picked up our 2009 Enclave, and it was dellivered on Friday(!), but I had to wait for a warm day to do the install. After the hitch was delivered, etailer sent me link to a review and resource page, with an installation video of the Englave. Watched the installation video, then watched it again to make sure I picked up on every detail. Installation went as smoothly as predicted, despite working on my back, with the rear end (of the Enclave) up on ramps. Took me about an hour, but then I hadn't installed a Hidden Hitch since our 1995 Olds 88. Product and service from etailer are great! 107548

I received the hitch, ball mount and wiring for my 2012 Acadia within just a couple of days after placing the order. The entire order was well packed in very heavy cardboard and was still in good condition upon arrival. I finally got around to putting it on today and as some others have indicated taking loose the muffler hangers and reinstalling them is probably the worst part of the job. I used some of my wifes vegetable spray and that helped a great deal. I did need my wife to help hold up on the hitch as I got the bolts started so we made a family project out of it. 74966

Yes, we still like that the hitch has the capability of being hidden withthe optional cover that we purchased for our 2012 Acadia. We will be using it again shortly to trailer our golf cart up to the campgrounds.

Vehicle: 2014 GMC Acadia Product works great and easy to install. More tongue weight (750 lbs.) than most others. Car had less than 5K miles on it so getting the 4 bumper hangers off required no special tools or spraying. Using a tie-down worked great for lowering the exhaust. Just did the install in the driveway without ramps. Everything lined up. For the handlenuts, I did not bend but just slid it under the plastic to keep them tight and flush. You can re-install the fascia cover when not in use. Once your figure it out, it's easy to get fascia cover on and off. 136179

I bought this hitch and was very impressed with the fast delivery. I also was grateful for the online video demonstrating the installation which made this a breeze. Can't say enough about the service of this company. 55850

The hitch I bought for our Chevrolet Traverse has worked fine for the last year. The installation was simple using the online video. The parts connected just like the video suggested. Great product and support.

Stunning is all I can say! First of all, Ricky at was awesome! He guided me through several hitch options based on my need and ended up feeling that the least expensive was my best option. In addition, it says, 30 minutes to install on my 2013 Buick Enclave and the video shows that you have to drop the exhaust some! Yeah right! Well, it was. I added a few minutes for tools, etc., but it was just about 30 minutes. The video was dead on and it was so easy to install. It was almost fun! In addition, everyone is cautious about saying you can re-attach the fascia to cover the hitch, but you CAN!!! That is part of the reason I went with this hitch. I'm very picky and want things done the best way possible and this hitch did it. It was a breeze and did everything I needed. Thanks again Ricky and etrailer. This is my second hitch and it's the only place I'd go! 134419

Product fit my 11' Traverse, like a dream. LOVE the way it is actually hidden beneath the License plate, and does not stick out at all. Instructional video posted online was SPOT ON. I will be using it to pull a landscape trailer, but didn't want the hitch to stick out behind the truck and be a shin buster.... I will be installing the Wiring Harness tomorrow.. With the instructions and videos included, Im certain it will be just as easy. 32681

This is was the first towing hitch I have installed. Installation was easier than I thought, took about an hour and a half including, gathering of tools and exhaust system cooling time and a single set of hands. What I liked about the hitch receiver were the tolerances to which it was made, it had very little movement at the time of adjustment for final torquing of bolts. Also, once the factory hitch cover goes back on, there is no way to tell if one is on. The only problem is that if you have a cargo carrier to use like mine, it is difficult to insert a keyed locking pin as there were only about 5 inches to work with, still recommend. This was installed on a 2014 Traverse. The videos on Etrailer are extremely helpful, I felt more comfortable doing the install by myself. Saved me at least $200. 144395

I ordered a hitch for my Buick Enclave by phone on Monday morning 6/4/2012. I was told it would take approximately 5 to 7 Days to arrive. To my surprise It was at my door on Wed. 6/6/2012. Thursday the 7th. i installed it by my self in approx. 50 minutes. I also received the wiring hook up for it. It took me about 30 minutes to install this. It looks nice on my Buick. I plan on using it this coming weekend. I would recommend using etrailer to anyone needing any equipment they have to sell. Bob Deam 43188

I have ordered from eTrailer before. Everything I have ordered from them has shipped fast and packed well. I also have seen their YouTube video's for installation on this hitch and wiring harness and that was what sold me on buying from them. It only took around 20 minutes or so to put this hitch and wiring harness on. Fit on our 2012 Chevy Traverse is excellent and until you remove the plastic hitch cover on the bumper you cant see it. I put a receiver hitch on all my vehicles and this has to be the easiest installs I have every done. 86297

Wiring kits are sold separately from the hitches. Included with Hidden Hitch 87435 will be the instructions and all necessary hardware to install the htich. I have added a link to our Fit Guide, where you can enter your year, make and model of the vehicle, and the site will display all the vehicle specific parts that fit it, included wiring kits. The 118450 harness should be the one you are looking for, but you can double check with the Fit Guide.

I installed this on my 2014 Acadia in 15-20 minutes. In the video they lower down the exhaust system for more room which if you have a brand new vehicle and can remove the rubber muffler hangers easily then it might be fine. I personally didn't lower the exhaust and still have plenty of room to work on the bolts for the hitch. I did have to use a box end wrench to tighten them versus a socket but it wasn't a big issue. Once installed this does allow you to put the factory hitch cover back on without any modification. My wife likes the factory clean look and I like having the hitch for towing our boat. 142157

by: Don M08/02/2014

The hidden hitch took literally 45 minutes to install, the videos on the Website helped me make the decision to do the job myself. With wire harness, hidden hitch, and 4 pole mount, the cost was $300 less than the quote from the dealer. That was my savings along with time and gas to get to and from the dealer. I have already recommended eTrailer to my neighbor for his Chevy with the same frame. He couldn't believe ho professional and factory the install looks. Thank you for you excellent service, rare these days to receive what you actually order and get it delivered ahead of schedule! 144124

Great quality, all necessary parts included. Very simple, fast installation, probably less than 20 minutes. I put this on an '13 GMC Acadia, and then I cut a hole in the factory bumper insert. Now the bumper looks "finished", and I didn't need to buy another trim plate. The hitch, with nothing installed, will still fit behind the fascia plate, so if you don't tow often, it's "Hidden". 71870

Awesome, I love it. Not exactly easy install but the Video was very helpful. Dropping the mufflers made it tricky but again the video helped. I will warn you... I waited 5 years to put a hitch on my 2008 Acadia. Guess what, there was rust is the mounting holes thanks to Chicago Winter Salt. I bought a can of Penetrating Oil Spray and a hardened bolt from the Auto Parts Store. I proceeded to drive the sacrificial bolt into each hole. Tough work but that opened the holes nicely and was able to properly install the hitch. I had my 12 yo son helping me and it went well. 159690

Half hour to install Used existing holes in the frame for installation.Included all bolts washers and spacers with the hitch package. 415

I have a 2011 Enclave and the Exhaust did not like it said it did. I even removed a 4th connector on the exhaus further up front and it still did not . So i could not get the Torque wrench in to measure of the 4 bolts to the frame....ugh!!!! - Otherwise it would have been a pretty easy install...The packing of the hitch was also not the best they dont pack enough protector in the box to make it non mobile during transit..

comment by: Rob - 09/22/2012

Rob, We've done quite a few of these on Enclaves and Traverses and haven't had a problem getting the exhaust out of the way so we could get a torque wrench on. Was there something else on your vehicle keeping the exhaust from lowering enough? Did you have the vehicle on a lift or jack stands? Whatever information you can provide would be appreciated. The more we know, the better we can help to solve.

Very good quality hitch. Fast free shipping and very easy to install. The video was an excelent tool. I installed this hitch on my 2014 Enclave in about an hour without lifting the vehicle. Product was great and quick shipping. Much cheeper than what I priced out for someone to install it, saved about $180 bucks and it would'nt have been the stylish round tubing of the Hidden Hitch. Super easy install, 30min install would have been just about right if I had a lift instead of a floor jack and jack stands. Trailer light harness was also very easy to install for my 2011 Chevy Traverse. Your installation videos were helpful and spot-on accurate. Would purchase from you again for my next vehicle. 48980

Hidden Hitch Receiver model 87435 was the greatest find on your website! I noticed that other owners of 2010 Chevy Traverse SUVs mentioned that they could still use the existing bumper cover even after this particular hitch was installed. It is a perfect fit, was quick to install, and the absolute best feature is that you can use the bumper cover again if you don't want to always look at the hitch, when it is not in use. Thank you 'etrailer' for your selection and reviews that made my decision so easy. 84886

I was hesitant about buying this assembly for fear of it not fitting our vehicle. I watched the video on installation and they said it would take about 30 minutes. I was prepared for about 2 hours. I WAS WRONG!!! Had this installed in about 45 minutes in my garage without any special lifts, jacks or jack stands. Everything lined up perfectly and the receiver is hidden behind the plastic fascia cover. Would recommend having an extra hand if doing in your garage, it is somewhat awkward by yourself 186589

Spring is coming (finally for NE region). Just got the hitch installed on my 2014 Enclave the past weekend. It took me about an hour from start to finsih. It's really a half an hour work if I don't count the time for looking for right tools and cleaning up. Thanks for the great video on etrailer that is very helpful. Great product. Installs easy. This is a great product and very well built. Standard delivery was very quick. Installation on an 2010 Acadia was quite easy and the site provided video installation helps very much. Even you don’t need to lower the exhaust, just push the mufflers to the exterior one by one and force the hitch into the location. I also ordered the wiring but I did not install it yet as I am primarily using the hitch for a bike rack. 3017

I bought this hitch for a 2011 Traverse. It was very easy to install by myself. I used my hands to take the exhaust boots off for the installation. Watching the video made me question why I ever paid anyone to do something so easy. I borrowed a torque wrench for final torques and I was able to reinstall the hitch cover. If you don't drive around with the ball attached the hidden hitch really is hidden. My car looks the same as it did before. 99435

Easy to install but has a flaw The square hole was made too large. When you install the ball adapter, it has too much play on the receiver that it makes a loud clunking noise. I would rather pay a little more for peace and quite when hauling my trailer and not have it sound like it's going to fall off. 1798

Mine does seem a bit loose also. 400 miles with crappy rental trailer made it even worse. Can a shim be added to tighten up connection?

comment by: Bob K - 10/14/2012

The hitches are purposely built a little larger. Accessories can run a little big or a little small so the extra space is to help ensure hitch owners don't have a problem getting their accessories mounted. But it can produce unwanted noise. There are some great anti-rattle devices on the market that pull the draw bar tight inside the hitch to keep things quieter. I've added a link to the whole group below. Some have to have a hollow shank or a thread pin hole, but there are others that can go outside the draw bar and hitch. If you have questions, let us know. If you do, let us know the hitch size as well. We can make better recommendations with that info.

Product exactly as described...solid as a rock, and heavy (which is good). Well packed and shipped quickly. Haven't installed yet, but with the video tutorial for our exact vehicle and exact hitch, I can't see how it could fail (knock on wood). Will update with a pic or two once the hitch and Thule bike rack (also purchased on are installed. Have to do it by mid-August for a trip to Williamsburg with the family. 139568

This hitch was easy to install and the instructions were decent. Shipping was fast and customer service updated it's progress vey well. I installed this hitch on my 2013 gmc Acadia and was able to keep using the bumper piece that covers the hitch. This was very helpful since it keeps the clean look of the bumper and the hitch doesn't stick out of the bumper at all. Hidden hitch is true to its name as it stays hidden. 120969

Easy install!! Used a creeper no jack stands or ramps. Make sure you have the right size sockets when you start. Watch the video again before you start. You can remove the muffler hangers without oil but VERY HARD (my mistake) when removing the outside hanger wear gloves and/or long sleeves, the muffler has SHARP edges. Time of 30 minutes is about right. Looks great. Tucks right in under the bumper of my Traverse. 50236

We ordered and received the hidden trailer hitch for our GMC Acadia. It was very easy to install and is a high quality product. We are very pleased we chose to order from etrailer and we were able to get a significant savings over the GMC dealer quote for the same equipment. The salesperson Bridget A was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the products! We would definitely order from etrailer again in the future. 46949

I don't normally take the time to review a product. This really is 5 stars as everyone says. Only issue I had was instructions say to remove all the mounts of the exhaust to have enough room for tightening the bolts. Even though I did, the 2 front bolts were not real accessible. I just had to use the Torque wrench really slowly and have patience one click at a time. But this is car issue, not the product. 61466

The fit was exactly like the video portrayed, and was simple enough to install by myself. The rear fascia plate covers the receiver when not in use, and was a major factor in ordering this part. We use the receiver for light use carrying a hitch hauler. Customer service was better than excellent and Anna S was very helpful. I'll definitely return to etrailer with any trailering needs. Thanks!! 228085

Product arrived chipped and repainted. Overspray was apparent on labels and repaint was peeling. Not what I would describe as new. Had to install it as I needed it in 2 days for a trip. Fit was excellent. Directions were spot on and the video was helpful. Using it for a bike rack and small jet ski trailer. I do like the way it fits because you can reinstall the factory bumper cover when not in use. 91786

Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III was installed just like the Video showed. My problem was the exhaust system did not drop down out of the way when the rubber hangers were disconnect. In fact I tried to discount the one closed to the muffler, and that didn't work either. It did make the system just barely loose enough to get the job done, just more work than it showed on the video. 159621

Always a pleasure doing business with etrailer. This is the second hitch I purchased from etrailer. Online product detail for my Traverse Hidden Hitch is accurate, up-to-date and plentiful. Other reviews posted helped guide me to the product I purchased and online instructions are short and to the point. Product arrived as illustrated and installation was a breezy 30 minutes. 136116

Hitch arrived the next day even though I didn't pay for next day shipping. Packaging was good. Installation took me only 20 mins on my garage floor. I didn't need to lower the exhaust as suggested, it would make getting to the bolts easier though. Hitch fit perfectly and I was able to put the cover back on so you don't even see the hitch. I put it on a 2015 Chevy Traverse LT. 201046

The mechanic that installed my hitch had previously gotten one from his supplier, but it didn't fit for some reason. So I ordered one on The hitch fit like a glove on my wife's '09 Enclave. I wasn't sure it would look great, but it looks like it belongs on the vehicle. We are using it for bicycles. Already mounted the bike rack, and it works great. 44285

The installation video was awesome! The only problem I had was I was unable to remove the forward exhaust hanger. Now that would be less of a problem on an LS or LT but I have the LTZ therefor dual exhaust in the way. I still managed to get it in place and torqued but it was a bit of a struggle! I did do all of the work on my back never lifting the car in the air. 43848

Package arrived on time as indicated it would. The packaging was also in good condition when it arrived. All hardware items were included along with directions. Will definitely be a return customer. 60549

Fit like a glove and can even reinstall to fascia cover to hide hitch when not in use. Hardest part of the install was detaching the hangers for the exhaust. However only had to do the back as was able to make enough space to tighten the bolts above. Thank you once again etrailer. Second hitch purchase and definitely will come back again for future needs! 71036

Fantastic experience with this product and the service. I was able to mount the hitch in 20 minutes and I would consider myself "beginner" when it comes to auto mechanics. This is definitely a do it yourself project. I was able to place the bumper cover back over the hitch so you cannot even tell it is there when not in use. 2014 Traverse. 209629

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Recommended Hitch and 4 Bike Rack for 2012 Buick Enclave
  • For your 2012 Enclave, I would recommend the Hidden Hitch Class III Receiver, part # 87435. We do indeed sell the hitch, you can see it by clicking the provided link. The hitch would work very well with the Thule Parkway # TH956 you referenced, but I would like you to also take a look at the Thule Hitching Post Pro, part # TH934XTR. The Hitching Post Pro is very similar to the Parkway, but it offers additional features like folding arms that make storing the rack easier as well as anti-sway...

Installing this kit will require you to hard wire the 12 volt power wire, brake controller output, power, ground...

The receiver will protrude out too far for the door to be replaced. The major differences between these 2 hitches are price and design. The Hidden Hitch trailer hitch is less expensive and has a round tube cross member. The more expensive Curt hitch has a square tube design. Based on my research, the trailer hitch receiver on your 2012 GMC Acadia is 2 x 2 inches.
