Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2001 Ford Taurus - Draw-Tite

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2001 Ford Taurus - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2001 Ford Taurus, well be test installing Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 24699. Here are a few measurements to help you when selecting accessories such as a bike rack or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost part of the bumper is 4 3/4 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 11 inches. Now well go ahead with our install. To begin our installation, well need to remove the exhaust hangers.

There will be one hanger towards the front of the muffler as well as one on the rear of the muffler. Now that our exhaust is lose, we can go ahead and locate our attachment points. Well be using this hole here on the driver side. Well need to remove this bolt for our rearmost attachment. Well do that on both sides, with our exhaust down well now remove the bolt on the bumper brackets and you can go ahead and discard them.

Now, before we set the hitch in place, we want to take our handle nut, fold it into an S shape and with that in that shape we can then take the square spacer block and slide it into the excess opening of the frame and let it fall down into the hole itself. Well do that on both sides. We can then use our handle nut and simply set it in place for now. With our handle nuts in place, were ready to set our hitch up. Itd be a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch in place while we install the fasteners.

Well run the hex bolt into the bumper bracket where we removed the previous bolt. And now that our hitch is up and loosely fitted to the bumper brackets, we can go ahead and install the front mounting point. Well make sure that the handle nut is lined up with the hole. Well then take our conical tooth washer with the teeth facing the hitch and our hex bolt, hold the hitch up in place and go ahead and start our bolt. And with all our hardware finger tight, we can go ahead and go back and tighten them all down.

And with all our hardware tight, we can go back and torque it down to specification as indicated in the instructions. And with all our fasteners tight 3and torque to specification, well go ahead and put the exhaust back up and that will complete our install of part number 24699 on our 2001 Ford Taurus.

The trailer hitch that I ordered was delivered right on time and only took about 45 min to install on my 2003 Taurus. I was very happy with e-trailer and I will be back soon. I looked everywhere and for the best price and service e-trailer is the only place to shop.78764

I need it in a bit of a rush and was assured on the phone that they would do everything they could to get it out the door. Mission accomplished. It arrived in 4 days and installed in about 2.5-3 hrs. The photo shows my Taurus with a U-Haul on it! Really appreciate you!20790

received the items before promissed. the wiring harness was great, it took maybe 10 minutes total. the hitch receiver was not that bad to install (40 minutes). the issue was removing the old 6 bolts(2 hours), not anyones fault, the car came from NY 2003 taurus. i have not seen that much rust on a car and i live at the beach in FL.10121

The hanger will be put back at the end of the install. I have included a link to the instructions so you can review them.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 1999 Ford Taurus Wagon
  • The Draw-Tite trailer hitch, # 24699, does fit a 1999 Ford Taurus wagon. This is a Class I trailer hitch so it will be very limited in terms of capacity (200 pounds tongue weight/2,000 pounds gross trailer weight) and in the accessories you can use. There is a Class II trailer hitch available for your vehicle. If you are planning on doing some towing, I recommend the Hidden Hitch trailer hitch, # 90173, because it comes with a ball mount, pin, and clip. It has a tongue weight capacity of 300
