This fully welded, corrosion-resistant Ford Taurus X trailer hitch is perfect for your light-duty towing and hitch rack needs. Tested Tough guarantee ensures that this hitch exceeds industry strength standards. Drawbar, pin and clip sold separately.
Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Today on this 2009 Ford Taurus, we're going to be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 36360 and this installation will also apply to Hidden Hitch part number 90090. Ok before we get started with our installation, we're going to go ahead and give you a couple of final installed dimensions which will help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. For the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to measure 12 inches and from the center of the pinhole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to measure approximately 5 inches. Ok now we'll go ahead and move on to our installation. All right, starting off up beneath the vehicle, the first thing we need to do over here on the driver side of the frame is go ahead and lower down our exhaust system. We're going to go ahead and remove the hanger from the frame rail.
And there are two bolts holding the hanger to the frame rail that we need to release. We're going to go ahead and point out the mounting holes that we're going to use. Starting over here on the driver side as well, we're going to go ahead and use the two weld nuts that were holding the exhaust bracket up. And a little bit more forward of that we're going to use that existing hole as well. And there's a fourth attachment point over here on the driver side, and that's actually on the in-board side of the frame at the rearest part of the frame and there's the bumper.
And then moving over here to the passenger side frame rail, there are two odd-looking holes in the frame here and these are actually non-threaded weld nuts. We're going to be forming threads into those two in using those as our two attaching points at the bottom of the frame. And then on the in-board side of the frame towards the end of the frame as well, there is a third one of these non-thread form bolts. Ok, so while we're over here on the passenger side of the vehicle, we might as well go ahead and form the threads in these non-threaded bolts. To do that we'll take the 12mm flange bolts that are provided with our installation kit.
And what we want to do is just take the bolt and if you use your hand you can get it to somewhat start a little bit, and you can either take a ratchet or an air gun and go ahead and run that in there. And you could see sometimes you have to run it in once or twice to get the thread to fully form. When the threads are formed we've now got a new weld nut inside the frame. We'll want to go ahead and do that for the other two as well. Ok with that accomplished, we'll now move over to the driver side, what we're going to do is take the provided bolt leader that comes with our installation kit and we're going to first do the one at the bottom of the frame and we're actually going to be using this larger hole at the end of the frame as our access point.
What we'll do is take the threaded end of our bolt leader slide it through our attaching hole and back out our access hole. We'll next take one of our 1 by 3inch blocks slid it out of the bolt leader followed by our carriage bolt and what we'll do is take and wrap threads of the carriage bolt with the threads of the bolt leader. Go ahead and insert them inside the frame and pull them down into place. Ok, we're going to do the same thing for the existing hole on the side of the frame. This attaching point, instead of the 1 by 3 inch block, we'll be using the 1 by 2inch block, same size carriage bolt however, we're going to go ahead and feed it inside the frame, but we're not going to pull it down into position just yet. We're just going to let it sit inside there until we get the hitch up into place and then we'll use our bolt leader to pull it through the hitch that will help to ensure that we don't push it back inside the frame when we go to put the hitch up. With that accomplished, we can now go ahead and put our hitch up into position. On the driver side, we're going to go ahead and first attach to the carriage bolt to the bottom of the frame. On the passenger side we'll use the form threading weld nuts. Over here in the driver side, as we're putting it up we want to make sure we go up and over the exhaust, and this time we'll want to go ahead and slide our bolt leader through the hole in the hitch for the side attaching point. And then we'll continue on to the carriage bolt. I'm going to go ahead and add conical tooth washer and hex nut and go ahead and pull our bolt into place. And again to that we're going to add a conical tooth washer and hex nut. Next we're going to take the exhaust bracket here the part that was attached to the frame and we need to actually remove it from our rubber hanger on the exhaust system. To do that, I'm just going to spray down the stud here with the spray lubricant. Go ahead to make it a little bit easier to get it off and it will separate it from the rubber hanger here. Then all we need to do is on the hanger itself, we need to cut off the end that was going inside the frame to uphold it into place. We can go ahead and cut that off using either a hacksaw, rotary tool, a cutting tool, whichever you have available to you. We'll then next go ahead and take our exhaust bracket and go back over to the vehicle. And what we want to do is go ahead and mount it to the frame before we reattach to our exhaust. What we're going to do is put one of the large spacer blocks that's included with the kit and its going to go in between the hitch and the exhaust bracket and then going back into the weld nuts. We'll be using the new 8mm bolts that come with the hardware kit. We'll go through now and tie each one of our bolts down. We're going to start by hand tightening it first and then we'll go through and torque each one of our bolts down to the specified torque rating that's listed in the instructions. Ok, then finally over here on the driver side we just want to go ahead and reattach our exhaust to our exhaust bracket. And with that, that will conclude the installation of Draw-Tite Hitch part number 36360 on a 2009 Ford Taurus.

I received this hitch today only 3 days after placing the order and got free shipping to boot. The hitch came with all the necessary hardware. It fit my 2008 Taurus perfectly, all the holes lined up. The video on this website was very helpful with installation. I installed the hitch myself in the driveway on a warmish November day. There was no need to jack the car up, there is lots of room under the rear of this car. No special tools were required, although a long ratchet extension is very helpful. I used wooden blocks to prop the exhaust in place after removing it from the hangers. The most time consuming part was cutting the threads in the weld nuts on the passenger side. I completed this using only a socket wrench and the bolts supplied. An impact gun would have been nice. The product fits well and looks great. Its a true hidden hitch. All that is visible from the rear of the vehicle is the hole to install the receiver. I highly recommend this product. 26576

Great price, tough installatio This is a great price for an entry level hitch. Everything is perfect, except that the installation was difficult. However, that was mostly due to the nature of the car and not the hitch. If you're going to install this, be sure to use an impact wrench on the passenger side. That's the only way those bolts can be properly attached with minimal use of profanity2341
great price, nice hitch My hitch took about 2 hours to install if you don't count the time I spent at the hardware store buying a ten inch extension for my sockets and watching an online video of another installation. The included instructions are to criptic, thank God for the online video, an impact wrench is a must.2964

Follow the video instructions and installation could not be easier! I installed this in my garage and had the car slightly raised using floor jacks on either side. Only problem I had was hefting the tow bar in place and holding it while gettting the bolts started, while I was laying on the floor - so I set up a jig (stand) to hold up the tow bar on one end while I bolted the other in place. 56140

The hitch was a perfect fit, allowing for plenty of room around exaust and the ball. Instructions were straight forward and simple. I inventoried the supplied nuts and bolts and found everything to be there. I did note that the instructions stated to use a fish wire to manipulate the bolts into position, so I made a fish wire that was marginal at best. One bolt on each side (the side, horizontal bolts) I had to fish through with a magnet. I see that others stated the job took about 40 minutes. From that I estimated about 2 hours and ended up a little more than that. Having done it once I could see not taking more than 40 minutes if I had to do it again. After I finished I looked closely at two odd pieces of wire meshed together and intertwined that had been with the nuts and bolts. There was the supplied fish wire! Since it was not mentioned in the supplied parts sheet I ignored them. Made of fine piano wire they would have worked great. Outside of this, things went fine and was not disappointed in anyway. If it's your first time on this specific application expect a little longer time installing than listed.52721

I have a late 2009 Ford Tarus-X and I'm almost 66 years old with a bad back. It took me approximately 2 hours to install with no help. What I needed most was 5 fish wires instead of 2 ,along with an extenshion, a small floor jack and and a can of spray lubricatant. The hitch is extreamely well engineered to fit precisely. I also put on the recommended wiring kit, it was almost too easy. I saved enough on the shipping and tax to almost pay for the hitch and the assories I purchased. I could not be more happy with e-trailer , for thier excellent service and thier quality products. 26604

Shipping and receiving was prompt, well made product, installation took longer than indicated. Hitch was a little bit difficult to get into position, even with muffler hanger removed muffler still had to be pulled to each side to allow placing and access to bolts, this made installation more difficult for one person. 14632

Easy install w/right tools I picked one of the hottest and most humid Florida afternoons to install the hitch. Working by myself it took approx. 1.5 hours, and a gallon of tea. The instructions included with the hitch are not so easy to follow, so I used my laptop to watch the eTrailer installation video to guide me. I purchased an inexpensive air impact wrench and sockets to aid me with the self threading bolts. Very easy job with the right tools! 3094
Great hitch, long install time The hitch is very hidden and looks like it will perform for years to come. The installation, however, took much longer than the 50 minutes advertised. It took me 4 hours. Most difficult part was getting the hitch in place and using the self-threading bolts. But, I was able to get it all done with simple garage tools. Oh, I didn't have a helper so this was a one-man install...perhaps why it took so long!2191
Easy I was surprised at how quick we installed this. Me and my buddy took maybe 30-40 minutes. We took out time. I only needed him to hold it up while I started the bolts. The fishing of the bolts was much simpler than I thought, this was the part I dreaded, and where we took our time. The fish wire was perfect, with a threaded end to hold the bolt. 1952
