Today we are working on a 2000 Ford Explorer. We will be installing Hidden Hitch part number 70647. This will also be comparable to Draw-Tite part number 75083. Here are a couple of measurements that will assist you in ing accessories for your new hitch, such as a bike rack, cargo carrier, or draw bar. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost portion of the bumper it is 3-3/4 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 15-3/4 inches. Now let us go ahead with the installation. 0:30
Before installing our hitch, let us point out some mounting holes. We got a pre-drilled hole here in the bottom of the frame on the drivers side. We also have one here on the side of the frame on the drivers side. This will be our rear most mounting point on the drivers side and it will be identical on the passengers side. With our holes pointed out, we will go ahead and show you our fasteners that will go through the bottom side of the frame. We will be using a bolt and block fasteners. We will put those together and feed them down into our frame. The other side of our hardware will be a conical tooth washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch and our nut. 1:10
Now we are ready to put our hitch in place. It is good to have an extra set of hands while you put the hitch in place. Just install our fasteners finger tight this time while we get all of our hardware in place. Our vertical holes, we use the bolt and lock style also. We will be using a lock washer and nut on our vertical fastener. With all of our fasteners installed, let us go ahead and tighten everything down. With everything tightened down, we torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. With all of our fasteners torqued to specifications, that completes the installation of Hidden Hitch part number 70647.

This unit mounted easily and perfectly. One-man job, thirty minutes max! The hitch does "lap over" the spare (15"/stock spare) about 1 1/2 inches, but does not block installation of the hitch....might block the removal of the spare, don't know!11776

A perfect description and accurate install procedure. I did encounter the sagging spring and shock dilemma that required me to jack up the rear of my Explorer in order to fit the brackets in. Having read about the possibility and prepared myself, made the install go smoothly. poor fit We installed this yesterday, I say 'we' because it took minimum 2 people. It did not fit correctly over the frame rails. The holes did line up, but it did not fit under the bumper of the vehicle. We also had to remove the bumper hitch plate. You may also want to jack up the rear end so that the leaf springs straighten slightly providing some clearence.1500

Nice! 1997 Explorer with 15" wheels. Fits good, comes with quality hardware, simple instructions, excellent customer service. A little difficult for a one person install, but I used a floor jack to hold the hitch up while I lined it up. Took a half hour.1369

Great product, perfect fit! This product fit perfect, took less time to intstall then estimated. It says it requires modification to the spare tire, only needed to lower the spare tire, install the hitch and then raise the tire back up. less than 10 minutes to install. Took me longer to find the spare tire tools than to install the hitch!!222

This is a great hitch. It was quick and easy to install and tucks up under most of the bumper, a real nice look. It's a shame the 16" spare tire wont fit behind it. You have to really decide if you want looks to over ride a spare tire you may need.79053

Received the hitch and took me all of 15 min to install. I took the spare tire off before starting to make it easier to see and install. I guess you have to add another 10 min. for that, so total time from start to finish was about 30 min. The spare does snug up against the hitch, but not that it won't go back up when cranked. My 2001 Explorer already had the holes to match up with the hitch, so all I had to do was line them up and screw on the nut. Had my wife help with that.78790

Nice hitch. Not exactly a 1 man job however. Fortunately my neighbor saw me struggling and came over to lend me a hand. Was difficult to support the hitch and try to line up the mounting holes but after getting the first 2 bolts in, it was all down hill from there. Ran into a problem with the spare tire (2001 Ford Explorer) being in the way. The hitch tends to dig into the spare, unless you can lower the spare and move it over a bit.22921
